It is great Macs don't need defragmentation , I didn't know this. I was wondering why doesn't Windows 7 use similar technology or programming. I have a computer with Windows 7 and you have to defrag it all the time? Has Apple shared this non-defragging ability with Microsoft? ( Do big companies share ideas?) (P.S.;unfair warning about my previous question. I HAVE NOT asked that many questions. Why would I be blocked?)

What makes a .screenflow file so large? Is it possible to compress the data?
I'm using Screenflow to record some FaceTime interviews. It's eating up my hard drive! A 30-minute very low quality video is 6 GB!! The screen (MacBook Pro 15" Early 2011), the microphone voice, and the computer voice are recorded. What is taking up so much space? Is it possible to reduce the size a bit? If so, how?

Partition boots into wrong partition
I have two partitions created, one called "Yosemite" and the other is my default 10.6.8 partition "Macintosh HD".
I successfully installed Yosemite onto the "Yosemite" partition, but when I try and boot the partition by pressing alt-option at startup, it simply boots me back into my Macintosh HD.
Even after attempting to boot to a USB, it still boots back into Macintosh HD. I tried to change the startup disk in System Preferences, but the only things that show up are "Mac OS X, 10.6.8 on MacAir 13" and "Network Startup".
Any and all help would be MUCH appreciated!
iPhone 6, 128 GB - Unable to Install Update iOS 8.2
I have an iPhone 6 which is NOT Jail Broken. The current version of iOS on the phone is 8.1.3 and yesterday I wanted to update to iOS 8.2 . The download went through without any problem but while installing, it gave the error - "Unable to Install Update An error occurred installing iOS 8.2". Tried installing after switching Off and ON and also tried Hard Reset (Holding Home button and On/off switch). Same error displays every time. Also the Touch Id has stopped working and I find that the Settings - Touch ID & Passcode - iPhone Unlock is OFF. When I try to switch it ON, the system displays the error " Failed Unable to complete Touch ID setup. Please go back and try again".
Is anyone facing this problem? I live in India.
Macbook Pro 13 in, 16GB Ram, i7 3.1, 512 GB Flash Storage Purchase
I recently purchased the Macbook Pro 13 in (Early 2015) model, with specs in the title. I was wondering if this is good purchase for a power user who does software engineering, UI / UX Design, database creation, etc.
I have been previously using a Q200E Asus Laptop with a modified SSD/HD harddisk but found that the laptop was too slow at times and that was really cutting into my dev time.
Is this a good buy? Will this keep me good for the next couple of years? I am looking at this as a long term investment.
Users who currently have these specs how is it?
I will also say another factor in me buying a Macbook Pro was to start development for iPhone applications.
Options for Replacing 60w Magsafe Power Supply
For the second time in four weeks I've had to re-solder the mag safe cord back on to the power supply. This time, unlike the first, the cord broke on the negative terminal on the circuit board itself. I was able to put a dab of solder back on the terminal to keep the power supply working, but the connection is weak, and I'm not sure how long it's going to last (I repack my charger a few times a day when I'm in school).
To that end, my question is this: would it be possible to solder the proprietary end of the (i.e. the magsafe cord) of the a/c adapter to a generic 60w adapter? I'm no electrician, but it seems as though nearly all 60w power supplies would be more or less equal in the whole scheme of things, but I could be wrong, and I don't want to fry my laptop.
Has anyone tried this?

caffeinate with launchd Doesn't Work when I Close My Laptop's Lid
I have a launchd task that periodically initiates a time machine network backup. I've had problems with corrupted sparse bundle disk images, which I've assumed is due to the either the computer sleeping during a backup, the NAS sleeping while the sparse bundle is mounted, or some combination of the 2. So, in order to fix this I run caffeinate with launchd task and have caffeinate run my script. I found, however, that the computer still goes to sleep when I close the lid, even when AC power is connected. I did a simple test, and found that caffeinate works as expected when I use it in a terminal, and does keep my computer awake, however, in that same test initiated with launchd/caffeinate the computer still goes to sleep while the script is running.
I'm running caffeinate with the -ims flags. In my simple test I used the following script:

why isn't my iPad backing up to iCloud?
When I plug in the iPad 2 to my Macbook Air, I see that the last iCloud backup was several weeks ago. I manually click to backup to iCloud, but the date stays the same. iCloud.com says I have 5 GB of space left. Can someone help me with this? Thanks.

Implement feature not available in Parental Controls?
I would like to use (or write) a timer that I can setup to use with my kids on Mac OS X (Yosemite). The functionality which I would like, which I haven't found off the shelf is:
- Set the timer for a period, T (e.g. 20 mins)
- Print a warning to the screen at T-n (e.g 17 mins)
- Lock the computer at 20 mins
- Unlock with administrator access only
I've experimented with pmset schedule but it allows the user to override.
Parental controls as currently implemented don't work for this as we want to split their time into smaller units, and more than one kid uses the same login (and I've read that this feature is buggy under Yosemite)

Will iMessage be re-delivered when the recipient attains wifi access?
I went into Settings > Messages > Learn More and it says that iMessage only works in Wifi mode. I am on Wifi and I have been trying to send iMessages to another person. Each time I send it "delivered" appears under the message. The other person calls me saying that she has not been receiving my iMessages. However, when I turn off iMessage in Settings > Messages, she starts responding to me, implying that regular SMS messages work. I am wondering whether the iMessages that I've sent have disappeared forever or will she start downloading the undelivered iMessages them when she attains wifi access?
How to find the exact address location for a file searched in Spotlight
The Spotlight application handily locates files for opening and indicates the general folder location. I want to know exactly where the file is from Spotlight in order to navigate to that location in Finder and move the file elsewhere.
In this specific example, I'm trying to find a .tex file in my Documents folder, but I don't know exactly where (it's full of all kinds of junk and multiple layers of folders). Is there a way to find out the exact address location of the file through Spotlight?
How do I repair a corrupt Admin Password?
I'm running am iMac 10.9.5. Recently I Installed Adobe CC, and ever since, I've been having issues with my admin password. My computer no longer recognizes it. So I'm effectively unable to update or install programs, or change any settings. Somehow it shifted from requiring a log in password at start up, to logging in automatically, and then I get the message "accountsd wants to use the login keychain."The admin password works in this case. I reset my keychain, but that didn't solve the problem. I tried to repair the keychain, but that requires an admin password and in this case it doesn't work. I'm at a loss. Any ideas?
Can't turn off Find my Iphone with old apple id password in order to delete account from my iphone
Iphone 4 - I'm trying to change the apple ID on my iphone to match my icloud (already changed apple id here) but it keeps asking me for the password linked to the old ID to turn off find my iphone, in order to delete the old apple ID account from the phone. I need to do this so I can sign in again with my new ID. This password of course won't work as the id has already been changed on icloud so the old email address/ID (now showing in the pop up box) doesn't exist! Any ideas?

Time machine backups
I recently tried to use the time machine backup but in the middle, it had about 15 minutes left...I shut my laptop (on accident). I got freaked out so I unplugged the external hard drive I was using. Can I just plug it back in and press backup again or will it have to re-do the whole process?

Is submit time calculated from last modification or date of binary upload? If pics or description are updated submit time will get postponed?
Why are .docx files shown as blank paper instead of blue Word icon?
I want to know if I can change this behaviour. .doc files are shown in the usual Word icon, as well as .dot and .dotx files. .dot files. Only the .docx files are shown as blank paper. I have attached a picture for better understanding. I use Microsoft Office for Mac 2011.

iCloud Drive - why are some things hidden and others not?
I noticed some apps that sync data using iCloud have visible folders in the iCloud Drive on my Mac, yet others are hidden. Why is this?
Why does iTunes send more data than it receives when downloading songs from iCloud?

This one shows kernel task running at root priv that has sent more than twice the data that it received. (I blacked out the username)

This goes on forever. (well not forever- about 20 megabytes)
Those are weird IP addresses). One is akamai - ok that's probably the cdn that Apple uses. But I don't understand the other one 0.0.15.153
Can anyone shed light on this behavior? Maybe little snitch is only showing the user packets and not what that kernel task is doing because there should be a lot more outgoing packets to make up for the excessive bytes (more than double) compared to what I receive. And the little snitch graph is mostly green (outgoing) and not showing what's incoming like activity monitor does. Is there a way to capture packets from a kernel task running as root?

32-bit or 64-bit version of Microsoft Office on Windows 7 64-bit bootcamp?
I wanted to ask which version I should download and install. First, I need to tell you that I use Windows 7 64-bit bootcamp on my Mac. I access it mostly via a virtual machine (VMWare). My Macbook has 8GB RAM and an about 3.1 GHz processor. I have about 10GB of free space on my bootcamp. Which version of Microsoft office should I install, 32-bit or 64-bit? Does 32-bit even work on my bootcamp?
Use Audio port as input and output
I have a Macbook Pro 2011, running OS X Yosemite. I am trying to use my headphones, which contain a mic and speakers (as most headphones do). However, I can only use the audio jack as input or output. I have tried to change it, but whenever I go to the sound menu to select it, it only gives me Input or Output.

Cannot enable Java in Safari
I have the following running on my Mac:
- OSX Yosemite (10.10.2)
- Java version 8 update 31
- Safari 8.0.4
I am unable to run any Java applet on Safari. I have added multiple sites to the exception lists (in System Preferences -> Java Control Panel -> Security), but it has not changed anything.
I also don't see anything related to Java in Safari preferences:

Whatever I do, I cannot allow for Java applets to be run on any browser.
Remove licenses from deleted user on OS X Server's VPP managed distribution
We buy apps using Volume Purchase Program with managed distribution through OS X Server's profile manager.
One of employees left, so I removed his user account from OS X Server. However, the licenses for apps we bought him are still unavailable to re-assign to other users, and I can't remove them from his account manually because it has been deleted.
Viewing the app's info page in Profile Manager shows that we have 13 - 3 = 10 licenses in use, and only lists 9 people who currently hold licenses to the app:
Is there anything I can do to reclaim that license? I could re-create the user, but we don't have access to his Apple ID so I don't think we could re-connect it to our Profile Manager; and if we can't do that, I don't think we'll be able to see the app associated with his user.

I'm trying to add a Canon MF8050cn to print from OS X Yosemite that works fine from Windows 7 machines. I installed the Canon 8000 driver for Macintosh. I can ping the printer successfully at 10.1.10.18 from my Macintosh. In the Add Printer dialog on the Macintosh, I enter the static IP address of the printer and Internet Printing Protocol and use Canon MF8000 Series, however, when I click Add on the dialog, it gives the error:
Unable to verify the printer on your network.
Unable to connect to '10.1.10.18' due to an error.
Would you still like to create the printer?
Choosing Continue gives a printer that does not respond to requests to print.
How can I configure this printer for access from my Macintosh?
Mac OSX : How to password protect an .app or other folder from deleting/moving by user/admin/root
I'm working on a security agent. Wherein I do not want to allow any user/admin/root to delete my security agent application normally.
If user/admin/root try to delete the .app file then OS should show password dialog. If user knows the password then only it should be deleted.
Any pointer on this would be helpful.
How can I type "\" (backslash) via remote desktop with a Norwegian, Danish or Swedish keyboard?
I am running Remote Desktop to connect from my MacBook Air with Yosemite to a Windows computer running Windows 8.1.
Both my Mac and the Windows computer is configured with Norwegian keyboard layout. It seems "\" backslash is impossible to input in this keyboard configuration. I would guess it's the same for Danish and Swedish keyboards.
Is there a way to easily input this character in RDP for Mac using this keyboard layout?
(I would be willing to map some key combination if that's possible, but I don't want to switch to some other keyboard layout, since I need to input Norwegian characters now and then)

SIPSAK seems to work with macports:

at least according to their github web page.
Do I have to build SIPSAK from source? Or, is there a binary repository I can add and then install from, using, perhaps, the command line?
I was looking at macports, I think that's how this is done.
Will this finally allow me to add binary repositories to install software, like sipsak? Strictly speaking, I'm not trying to compile sipsak, just use it.

iPhone broken falling from car
I left my phone on the roof of my car today and drove off and the result was that I reversed over it and smashed the screen. I am insured so that is OK. The only problem I have is I haven't backed it up for 14 weeks as was running low on iCloud storage. I've taken all photos off so that's not the problem, but just need my calendar as I run my hairdressing business off it, and I cannot see all my appointments. Does anyone know if there is a way to do this on my PC?
Can I force external microphone detection after mic is plugged in
Background: I use a Henge Dock for my MBPr with a headset for things like Skype. Because the Henge Dock uses an extension cable to make the audio 'Combination Output' (TRRS) port accessible, the microphone is only detected if it's plugged into the extension BEFORE the MacBook is docked. This is a very common issue and well documented.
Problem / Question: I leave my MacBook docked most of the time, but I use my headset on multiple devices each day. This means that to get the headset mic to work each time, I either have to un-dock/dock, or restart... not ideal! I would like a way of toggling the headset detection. It must be a software related function that can probably be accessed through a script.
Any ideas? Thanks!

For an event I need pictures displayed on a screen right after they are taken on an iPhone.
I tried doing this with an Apple TV and the photostream view, but the photos take some time to show.
Is there any way to make an live feed of pictures taken with an iPhone? I have an Apple TV and MacBook to make this work.
Spotlight makes repeated http requests
I'm running little snitch and every time I open spotlight to find something it makes a bunch or http requests out to various websites, some I've visited in the past some I've absolutely no idea about.
I've no idea what its doing and why it should be reaching out, but in anycase I'd much prefer if it didn't.
Is there any way to restrict it to the local machine and not have it make these requests?
Is it more memory/processor-efficient to open many windows in one desktop, or to make all these windows fullscreen?
I have many, many windows that must be open all at once (VM, Email client, browser, IDE, source navigator, issue tracker, notebook, etc...), and have often bumped up against my MacBook's 16GB of RAM. Would it be more efficient to have these all in 1 or 2 desktops, or to have as many as possible fullscreen in their own desktop?
My logic here is that if they're all in 1 desktop (or 2 with a 2-monitor setup), then the Mac doesn't have to track which desktop each is on, and can use that memory for other things. On the other hand, if I have many fullscreen windows, then it doesn't have to worry about what may be in front of / behind those windows, because it will only be them and maybe a preferences dialog, so maybe it wouldn't care at all about windows on other desktops, or in other fullscreens.
Intuitively, I also feel there must be a performance hit from having so many virtual desktops open. I don't know how Mac OS handles it, but I feel like there's probably duplicate objects there (perhaps each has its own menu bar, dock, icons, etc.)
Can You Use The Apple Watch With An iPod?
I may or may not be be getting the new Apple Watch. Before I think about it I want to know if I can use it with an iPod Touch 5th generation instead of an iPhone.
Is the apple Watch locked to the iPhone 6 only or can I use it with an iPod Touch. If I can use it with a iPod what features will I loose or what will the ones be available.
Messages font size can't be changed in Yosemite
I noticed in Yosemite, Messages has two menu options under the View menu, "Make Text Smaller" and "Make Text Bigger." But unfortunately neither option does anything at all. Is this a bug? Do I have something in my settings preventing this from working?
Focus the folders area in save dialogs
Is there a shortcut to focus the folders area in the save dialogs? I've found the followings shorcuts, but I would like to be able to just focus the currently selected folder.

Yosemite: How do increase font size of Eclipse globally?
Please do not mark this question as duplicate, There are some similar questions, but they are stale. They are about old versions and none of their suggestions solve my issue. (eg: How do increase font size of Eclipse globally?)
I am using eclipse Kepler on Yosemite. I want to change all of my front size in eclipse larger. I am using a 1080p monitor, and it's quite painful to see those small fonts. I found a way to change the package explorer font (change from the css file) and java editor font(change from preference), but I want to change others too. I want to change the fonts in the opened tabs, outline, task and possibly all other prescriptive. Is there a way to change them globally? If not, is there a way to change them one by one? I checked "General - Appearance - Colors and Fonts". There is no way to change the fonts on those prescriptive.
How do I "NOT require" a passcode in Apple Configurator
Since apparently I can't set a passcode automatically with configurator I'd like to not have a passcode required (I'm okay with the user setting one themselves as long as it'll get wiped when I reset the device). Is it possible to have configurator do this?

Today my app's metadata was rejected by Apple.
Reason -
"8.1 - Apps must comply with all terms and conditions explained in the Guidelines for Using Apple Trademarks and Copyrights and the Apple Trademark List" Your app does not comply with the Guidelines for Using Apple's Trademarks and Copyrights. Specifically, your app marketing screenshots show the iOS home screen and native iOS app icons.
I asked them why almost all other apps could use iPhone on app screenshots but I can't?
On that they answered:
On occasion, there may be apps on the App Store that don't appear to be in compliance with the App Store Review Guidelines. We work hard to ensure that the apps on the App Store are in compliance and we try to identify any apps currently on the App Store that may not be. It takes time to identify these occurrences but another app being out of compliance is not a reason for your app to be. Please remove any likeness of Apple trademarks from your app.

I'm rather confused by the rejection reason because a lot of other apps (e.g. http://ift.tt/1bfskIE, http://ift.tt/1MNR5aC (very similar to mine), http://ift.tt/1bfsiQY, http://ift.tt/1MNR5qQ) use similar screenshots, apparently without problems.
I would really like to submit the app with the screenshots as they are, what is the recommended course of action to reconsider a submission?
Able to answer—but not make—iPhone calls on Mac
Background
Among the many promising features of OS X 10.10 grouped under the label "Continuity" is the ability to make and answer iPhone calls from the Mac. The Mac uses the iPhone's connection to the carrier's voice network. I think this technology works over wifi.
Problem
I'm able to answer calls, but not make them. The error message I receive on my Mac is, "iPhone calls not available. Your iPhone must use the same iCloud and FaceTime account."
What I've done
I've confirmed that both iCloud and FaceTime on my iPhone—as well as iCloud on my Mac—are logged into the same account.
Question
What could be causing this issue, and what should I do to fix it?
Keyboard keeps reverting to U.S
For a few weeks, I've noticed that my keyboard layout keeps reverting to U.S. each time I reboot. To be precise: each time I reboot, my System Preferences -> Keyboard -> Input Sources window looks like this:

NB: MathUnicode is a .keylayout file of my own making, which I've used for several years now, without any problems.

Macbook with malfunctioning external monitor port
Older model Macbook has malfunctioning external monitor pot. Had correct VGA connecter. Is the port fixable or another way to connect external monitor bypassing the broken port? My screen is cracked and need an external monitor.
MacBook Late 2008 SSD Upgrade
I have the late 2008 edition of the unibody MacBook. It has a built-in HDD which became unbelievably slow. The other tech-specs are:
Now, since its not too bad regarding the processor and the memory is ok too, I thought about speeding it up a bit by giving it an SSD.

Apple - Mac OS X Snow Leopard - Technical specifications doesn't list Arabic or Hebrew amongst the languages, so (by implication) whilst operating system localisations at that time did not include those languages, the OS did support RTL.
Another archived article, Hebrew & Arabic Language Kit: System Direction Issues, reminds me that for less recent versions of the OS, Apple's installer offered language kits (more recent installers include those languages by default).
I tried searching domains such as mellel.com, redlers.com and www.apple.com/pr – e.g. http://ift.tt/1BIbITE – couldn't find an answer.

A couple of shortcut keys have stopped working
I have noticed that a couple of shortcut keys have stopped working. Thinking it could be another app using the shortcuts I've been into keyboard settings and restored all the default keys. This has not affected the problem.
The issue appears to be happening across different apps (I'm testing in Finder, Safari and my text editor).
Here are some examples: ⌘S for saving doesn't work, but ⇧⌘S for save all does work. ⌘N for a new window/file (text editor) doesn't work, but ⇧⌘N for new file(Finder)/new private window(Safari)/new window(text editor) does work.
Particularly ⌘S I use on a regular basis. I tried to add it again:
Keyboard preferences > Shortcuts > App Shortcuts > Add
and ⌘S is still not working.
I'm working on a MacBook Pro with an external keyboard. The situation is the same working with the external keyboard connected or directly with the MacBook's own keys.
How can I get the shortcut keys' functionality back?

I've just install the Server.app on a mac mini that run yosemite 10.10.2 and the Software Update Server don't work. I've got this error messages :

Siri stopped working
Since iOS 8.1 Siri stopped working for me. The sound and wave animation appear, but it seems the microphone does not register my speech, or it is not processed by Siri.
I have read various "solutions" and tried to troubleshoot it, but I am running out of ideas.
I have tried, turning Siri on and off again :), restarting the phone and resetting different settings (including the network settings). Nothing seems to work.
Any ideas, how can I resolve this?
2 icloud acounts
My husband has an iPhone 5s, and my stepdaughter has an iPhone 4 as this is her first phone.
They both have same iTunes and iCloud account. All we want to do is disconnect the iCloud account from the 4s, and switch this off on her phone as when we are deleting some of the contacts that are in the 4s, which are the same in the 5s, it's deleting in both phones, so we do not want to delete the account and clear the 4s in case this happens with the 5s.
We have also deleted the 4s account that was showing on the 5s, so they were not connected but the same thing is still happening. I have also turned of the iCloud backup on the 4s, but still has made no difference. Can you please help?
Keystrokes in right top corner
A friend of mine has a setting turned on on his macbook. As you can see in the screenshot below, the shift, function, control, alt and command keys show up in the top right corner when pressed. Where can this setting be turned off?
iPhone randomly turning off?
So my iPhone 5 frequently and randomly decides to turn itself off. When it is about to go, it freezes, shows the 'turning off wheel/circle' and then goes black, with the exception of a tiny red dot in the middle. Then after a few seconds it goes completely black. My lock button is also broken so without a charger and a powerpoint, i am unable to revive it! Help please!
postbox / mailbox folder from IMAP email account not updated on iOS 8
IMAP account exists on OS X 10.10.2 and iOS 8. That account has several folders. When looking at the folders on iOS they do update fine and then display "Updated Just Now". But for one folder I see "Updated on 09/02/15 which indeed might have been the last time I visited the folder.
The odd thing is when I pull to refresh or just after entering that folder, mail on iOS says "Checking for Mail..." and here comes the trouble: then it goes back to "Updated on 09/02/15" and "No Mail" in the middle of the screen.
On OS X there's quite a few mails in that folder, also in the webmail client of the account.
What's stunning here is, that the other folders update just fine.
Waranty and Apple Care plan after exchange of SSD?
I might have to bring my Early 2013 MacBook Pro Retina in for service as the screen shows some strange smudging (I just post it here as it looks quite strange...).
But I replaced the internal SSD with a JetDrive 725 recently. Will my my AppleCare Protection Plan still be valid, or should I just put the original in again?
My TB/Ethernet adapter is not detected by my rMBP
My rMBP has two thunderbolt ports, one of which has a VGA adapter plugged in (works fine, in both ports), and the other has an Apple Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet adapter. This is the second such adapter I've tried, since the first was pre-owned and suffered the same problem as this one, so was returned on the assumption that it was broken.
Essentially, the adapter is just not detected by the MBP at all. No corresponding device in Network Settings, System Report oddly reports both TB ports as "Not Connected".
I know the ports are at least sort of functioning since the second display works fine in either one, and it's unlikely that the adapter is broken since it's the second one I've tried. Googling brings up lots of suggestions along the lines of disabling IPv6 or renewing a DHCP lease, but I can't even get that far in the process since the adapter itself isn't available for configuration.
I'm running 10.10.2 - can anyone suggest what might be wrong?
Target disk Macbook Pro HD not showing on Host Macbook Pro
I'm trying to recover some data such as movies, pictures, etc from my brother's macbook pro before he takes it in for a depot repair. Anyway, like i've been told, I boot his macbook into target disk mode and connect it to my macbook via thunderbolt cable. After I unlock his hard drive it just doesn't show in my finder window. Is there something wrong on my end? Some sort of human error? Mind you the macbook is going in to get it's motherboard, fan and hard drive replaced. I figure it's due to one of those but just incase I just thought i'd reach out.
I have to turn my Apple TV on to make it discoverable by laptops/phones
Whenever I want to share my screen to my apple tv, I first need to find the apple tv remote and turn it on. I used to be able to, at anytime, go to the displays dropdown and select my Apple TV to share to. Now, my ATV only shows up when I turn it on first.
I see the setting "sleep after X" on my ATV but I don't think this setting is the solution.
Is there a setting I'm missing?

(Easy way of ) Turning gmail events to (google) calendaron on Iphone
I have default mail , Gmail , calendar and google calendar apps on IPhone. When I get an event (from lets say meetup ), I have to copy paste bits and pieces from mail/Gmail app to Calendar/Google Calendar! What gives? Isn't there an easy way to export a Gmail (event) to IPhone Calendar/Google Calendar app on IPhone?
I have also tried using chrome and Gmail web site to copy/import and event to Google calendar directly but I ended up copying and pasting the event details over again. In 21st century surely there must be an open format for calendar events. ( Or is that only possible in Star Track universe?)

I have an NTFS data drive in a Windows machine that I might move to an external hard drive enclosure, if I can use Tags with the NTFS drive from my new Mac. (it's a Seagate drive, so I'd use their free OS X NTFS driver)
If NTFS will not work with OS X File Tags, what other file systems will work with it?
Assuming that File Tags work with some file system that a Windows machine could read (including using third-party drivers), what would happen if I had tagged a file or directory, then disconnected the drive from my Mac, then attached it to my PC, then moved or modified the tagged file or directory, then disconnected the drive from my PC and connected it to my Mac? Would the tag still be associated with the file?
Can't force quit google chrome until renaming it (more of a whats happening question)
After force quitting chrome, and trying to open, nothing happens, then chrome says it is not responding and i cannot force quit chrome. According to activity monitor, and terminal, chrome is not running, but according to force quit, and finder, it is running. When i try to force quit from cmd+alt+esc, nothing happens, when i try to do it from terminal
killall Volumes/Macintosh\ HD/Applications/Google\ Chrome.app
killall Google\ Chrome
it says the process cannot be found, and i cannot find it in activity monitor.
I couldn't move it to trash because it was open, so i had to
sudo rm -rf Volumes/Macintosh\ HD/Applications/Google\ Chrome.app
After delelting it, the problem is gone, but when i download google chrome again, it happens again. Renaming google chrome does let me use it, but its still broken when i rename it back to the original.
