Control center bug on iPhone
I have an iPhone 6 Plus.
There is a fairly recurring display bug concerning the AirDrop/AirPlay area in control center. Sometimes it appears squished, so that only a few pixels of it is visible. Whatever is there can still be tapped.
I'll point a screenshot as soon as I figure how to with my iPhone.
Is this a known bug? How can this be fixed?
Hacker Onboard-What is he up too?
I have hacker "hacking" into my computer periodically to steal intellectual material-copyright infringement. Most likely there is some sort of key-stroke software onboard as well other things. In the past he set up and burned what appears to have been a "virtual disc", while eon other occasions he just opens 70-100 files, steal the contents and leaves the files open for me to see. The fact I know he is around tells you he not too bright. I will be posting a series of computer logs, to sort this out. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Missing songs after 8.0 update and sync
I did the iOS update a few months back and noticed that the songs I had downloaded in May and June 2014 were missing. Since the computer I used that had iTunes was stolen in July 2014, I had no way to access iTunes. Finally tonight I was able to plug in my phone to iTunes on the computer. The playlists showed up with the missing songs in them. I then selected sync hoping they would be moved to my iPhone 5, Instead my playlists are now empty. Is there a way to get my songs back?

Missing iOS iMessage showing in OSX Messages
This is the second time this has happened to me in the past couple of days so it starts to bother me: somebody sends me an iMessage, that I never get on my iPhone (4S iOS 8.2) but I do get on my Macbook's (OS 10.10.2 Yosemite) Messages application (v8.0). Even days later the messages are not appearing on my iPhone.
Do you have any idea why this is happening and how I could manually force a synchronization?
Where does Time Machine server store its backups?
Not the /Volumes/backupdrive/Shared Items/Backups, but the actual Backups.backupdb you see in backing up locally. Where does it store that data? I know an external machine backups successfully to it often, but the data doesn't seem to be anywhere. Any ideas?
Syncing an iPad to my desktop iMac
I have an iPad which I would like to sync with my desktop Mac. I don't know where I should go to see the icon which shows the iPad is connected. (It used to be easy; I could look on the finder and see it, but now the iPad doesn't show up in the Finder at all.)
For my old iPod, it was visible in iTunes, but this iPad is not visible anywhere that I can see.
Is there a way to make iPhone forget an app?
I recently downloaded an app (Rival Knights) which I already had on my iPad, but not on my phone. It gave me the option to write over my saved data and I declined. However now, I've changed my mind and want to start again.
I've tried deleting and re-installing the app, completely resetting my iPhone, deleting the app from my game centre, and making a new apple ID, however none of these have worked.
Is there any other way I can make my phone forget the app so I have a chance of starting again?

Among the many promising features of OS X 10.10 grouped under the label "Continuity" is the ability to make and answer iPhone calls from the Mac. The Mac uses the iPhone's connection to the carrier's voice network. I think this technology works over wifi.
Problem
I'm able to answer calls, but not make them. The error message I receive on my Mac is, "iPhone calls not available. Your iPhone must use the same iCloud and FaceTime account."
What I've done
I've confirmed that both iCloud and FaceTime on my iPhone—as well as iCloud on my Mac—are logged into the same account.
Question
What could be causing this issue, and what should I do to fix it?
Abort OS X download initiated through App Store?
I started an OS X Yosemite download. I did not want to download it or install it; rather I just wanted it to show up under purchases so I could install it in the future after Apple removes it from the App Store. It will avoid problems like Where can I get a copy of Mavericks after Yosemite has been released?
The Pause button is not available (its greyed out), so I can't pause or stop the download.
How do I abort the download now that the "purchase" has been made?
iPhone 6, 128 GB - Unable to Install Update iOS 8.2
I have an iPhone 6 which is NOT Jail Broken. The current version of iOS on the phone is 8.1.3 and yesterday I wanted to update to iOS 8.2 . The download went through without any problem but while installing, it gave the error - "Unable to Install Update An error occurred installing iOS 8.2". Tried installing after switching Off and ON and also tried Hard Reset (Holding Home button and On/off switch). Same error displays every time. Also the Touch Id has stopped working and I find that the Settings - Touch ID & Passcode - iPhone Unlock is OFF. When I try to switch it ON, the system displays the error " Failed Unable to complete Touch ID setup. Please go back and try again".
Is anyone facing this problem? I live in India.
Integrate Lightning (Tunderbird AddOn) into Yosemite's Notification Center
I currently went from Mac OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard to 10.10.2 Yosemite. I am kind of impressed of the "new" Notification Center" and asking myself if there is any way to integrate Thunderbird's Lightning Calendars and Tasks into this.
Incoming mails are integrated like a charm. However, my calendars aren't.
I could use Apple's Mail and Calendar Apps for sure, but I'd rather use Thunderbird for seamless integration in my Linux-Windows-Mac-based Workflow.

How to stop Mail from creating a local sent messages folder AND not store sent messages on the server
I have a big issue with Mail. I want to stop Mail from storing sent messages locally. I know the way to do this is to select my IMAP sent messages folder and press "Use this mailbox as sent mailbox". However, when I do this Mail automatically checks "Store sent messages on the server", which we all know leads to the duplicate sent messages issue. If if uncheck it, Mail reverts to using a local sent messages folder. Is there a way to use the IMAP sent messages folder AND not store sent messages on the server?

Make OS X Dashboard Widgets appear in Desktop
Dashboard Widgets would be much more useful as MenuBar apps, but some aren't. Is there a way to force OS X to display active Widgets in the MenuBar or as application windows?
Arc Touch Mouse SE won't reconnect on 10.10, mods to blame?
I have an Arc Touch Mouse SE (Bluetooth edition of the Arc Touch Mouse) and though I remember long ago it worked for the most part in 10.9, it doesn't seem to work in 10.10 and I'm trying to determine if it's one of the 'mods' I've installed that are to blame.
Here's how it works right now: I have to delete it from Bluetooth preferences if it exists already, and manually pair the mouse to get it to work. It will work until I turn either it or Bluetooth off, then it'll refuse to connect until I repeat this process.
I've done, for testing, a clean install of 10.10 on an SD card to see if it's something I've installed that interferes with Bluetooth. It seems to work perfectly on this clean install.
Also, and this may be related, the mouse does not show up in USB Overdrive. It's not present on the list, and the settings I had set do not do anything to the mouse's behavior.
I suppose I should start by listing everything that shows up in the bottom pane of System Preferences. I wonder if there's anything else I have that might interfere with Bluetooth that doesn't show up here. Here's the list:

iPhone 6 - Phone call keypad not recognized
Recently, when I am on a call that requires pressing a number on the keypad (for instance: to select an option or join a WebEx), I can press the appropriate button and I see the press respond and hear the tone, but the other end of the line does not recognize that the number was pressed.
I thought it was only WebEx, but two other calls did the same thing today (one of them being an Apple support call).
How can I fix/debug this?
I tried searching Google for "iPhone 6 numeric keypad not working" but came up empty. Is there another term I should use in my search?
Is it possible to wipe an entire iCloud Photo Library?
I've been using the beta iCloud Photo Library for a week and a bunch of photos got duplicated and I'd like to wipe all the photos out and start over.
I have backups of all the photos and have turned off iPhoto Cloud Library on all iOS devices. When I log into the web app - it still shows dozens of albums and I can delete all the photos, then go to deleted items and then purge them, but the ghost albums are still there messing things up.
I've turned off the library entirely and you can see there is a 30 day waiting period.
Is there some way to accelerate this or must people wait a month for a corrupt library to eventually be purged to start over?
(I have tickets open with AppleCare after carefully reading the FAQ and it's escalated to engineering, but I was informed that it might be a week or two before it gets seen :-( Perhaps someone has a better idea to clear things out or noticed something I've missed.)
ipod touch 5: Lightning plug to 1/8" male, line out/in, audio plug /cable
I have an ipod touch 5th generation with a 16 pin lightning plug. I use the headphone out (1/8" male phono plug to rca plug adapter) to feed audio to my home stereo... I would rather use a "line out" feed from my ipod lightning plug (I attached a 32 pin adapter plug and connected my iopd to an iDeck ((car cassette adapter)) and, yes, there is a line out feed)- a line out feed would eliminate internal ipod amplification and inherent distortion. I can't find a 16 pin male adapter (ipod input) to 1/8" stereo phono plug cable!? Is there such an animal
How to force Mac (Yosemite) to use USB Bluetooth instead of internal?
I'm on an older Mac Pro, and I bought the ASUS USB-BT400 so that I can use Yosemite's Handoff feature. The problem is, I don't know how to disable the internal Bluetooth and force my machine to use the USB Bluetooth instead. I searched around but didn't find anything that worked.
VMWare Fusion 7: File Not Found
I screwed up big time when I tried deleting my Windows 7 VM on VMWare Fusion 7 on my Macbook Air. I put the VM in the Trash and emptied the trash. Now when I try to create a new VM, I get File Not Found. I tried moving VMWare Fusion into the Trash so I can uninstall it and then reinstall it but it's not working. How do I fix my problem so I can install a more recent Windows VM? Thank you.
Unable to properly boot Power Mac G5 running Debian without a screen connected
I’ve got Power Mac G5 running Debian 6 in headless mode as a media/home server.
When booting it without an attached screen, the fans ramp up from the idle speed to maximum over a couple of minutes. The red interior warning light is not lit.
The server is ping-able the entire time, but startup utilities such as SSH and other are never started; or at least they aren’t reachable.
If a screen is connected until the login-prompt appears, it works just fine. Connecting a screen after booting does nothing; it must be connected the entire time.
I do not know, nor am I able to test if this is a problem when running Mac OS X.
Has anyone experienced this before? And if so, is there a solution to this?

I switched to FireFox when Safari started to have massive problems. Firefox is not much better. Mozilla forum responses keep blaming AddOn incompatability. But mostly I'm running security & privacy enhancers (DoNotTrackMe, Ghostery, etc)

I want to keep >100 tabs open. Closer to 200. Used to be able to do that with Safari. What has changed ?
FF was working adequately until the last security update. Now its just constantly showing anywhere from 20% to 80+ %CPU usage. It can take many seconds to open a new blank tab, and then 10-20 seconds before it accepts input (trackpad click on the URL box, or keyboard entry).
Seems like every other FF update screws it up.
Text box not appearing in a Messages conversation
I have a recurring problem in Messages on my Mac where, in one group conversation in particular, the text box occasionally disappears. Instead of having a text box at the bottom of the screen I can type into, the conversation simply goes all the way down. When this happens, the text box still appears in every other conversation; I can also still send messages in that conversation from my iPhone. It disappears only on my Mac, and only on that one conversation. The problem persists when I shut down Messages and start it back up. Sometimes the text box comes back, and then later disappears again, on a pattern that I have not been able to discern.

Wine install from source while keeping brew installed version
I have wine 1.6.2 installed currently through brew. I would like to simultaneously have an older version of wine on my machine to run a program that does not work with newer versions of wine. The version of win e I need is not available through brew versions wine so I will need to build from source if possible. Can this be done and how do I make both versions of wine available and prevent naming conflicts etc. ?
Using TextEdit to edit an installed Applications TXT file
I want to use sublime text to edit a text file within one of my installed Applications. Once I edit the file, my computer refuses to launch the application and instead gives me an error saying the file is corrupt. Once I revert to the old file, the app opens without any errors. Can I force the parser to force open the app each time?
Odd Red Lines in Windows 7 Games on 2013 rMBP
Last September, I upgraded to a late 2013 model rMBP (Core i5 2.4ghz with Intel Iris 5100). It has largely been fantastic for gaming in Windows 7 — I've played through Bioshock Infinite, Dishonored, Dark Souls and others all without many problems and with a good performance and quality.
However, some games give me a really odd glitch when certain settings are enabled. Spec Ops: The Line, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, and Borderlands 2 (so far) have all displayed odd red lines/artifacting, and though I can sometimes remove them by fiddling with settings, I was hoping someone would know if there is any root cause of this.

How to return to camera when looking at Albums?
I've noticed that in iOS 8 (I think in 7 too), you can't seem to get back to the camera to take another picture, when looking at albums/photos.
For example:
- Launch camera
- Tap small photo icon in lower left corner to view latest photos taken
- Tap All Photos in upper left
- Now you can't get back to camera to take another photo
The only way to return seems to be to click Home to return to the home screen, then launch the camera app again. Is this so? Is there no simpler way to just get back into the camera mode you were just in?

Brew's tofrodos in Yosemite
This thread is based on my attempt to parse windows syntax to unix in this thread. I run successfully brew reinstall tofrodos and get

Install Windows 7 On MacBook (x) 2015
I have just looked on MacRumours and found out that Apple have stopped support for installing Windows 7 with BootCamp on the 2015 MacBooks (Air and Pro) (link). Since I am going to get the new 12" MacBook I am guessing that too doesn't support Windows 7 using bootcamp.
Since Apple are stopping the drivers for the 2015 models as well, is there still a way to install Windows 7 on the 2015 versions of the MacBook? (I sometimes need Windows 7 on my Mac for college)
Why is the clock speed of the iPad Air 2 so much less than the Google Nexus 9
I was comparing different tablets and I saw that there was a big difference in clock speed between an iPad air 2 (1.4 GHz) and Android tablets like the Google Nexus 9 (2.3 Ghz). What is the reason for this big difference and what does it mean for the perfomance of the tablet. Does an android tablet just need a bigger clock speed to operate correctly?
How to display timecodes with iMovie 10.0.7 N
On discussion forums, I read that I have to go to iMovie Preferences and ask to display timecodes.
But my preferences window only contains two checkboxes, none of them related to timecodes.
Do you know how to see the timecode for a given image in a movie ?

How to sync Yosemite Photos library to Synology Diskstation?
I'd like to know if anyone has found a way to sync the new Photos app on Yosemite with a Synology diskstation. I know backing up is easily done either using Time Machine or another app, but I want to sync the 'Events' of Photos to my Diskstation to allow for it to index the files to the built in Photo Station application on the NAS.

How to quit an app in OS X Yosemite
I have this annoying BitTorrent app that won't quit. I first tried right clicking and force quit from dock. It does show 'App not responding', however, on clicking 'Force quit' nothing happens, and the app persists in the dock with the black dot below:
So I next opened 'Force Quit' from Apple menu, and clicking it launches the list of processes open, and sure there I see BitTorrent. However, same here, on force quitting it, nothing happens, the app name is still there in the list of open apps.
So I next open Activity monitor, and check if it is there. However, as you can see, it is not there:
However, if I switch to the energy tab, I see BitTorrent there, but it shows as disabled, and consequently I am unable to quit it by clicking the cancel button at the top left (which is disabled):
So I login to my terminal, and type top to see whether the app shows up, and it doesn't.
Then I try launchctl list to see which things were launched by Apple at startup, and spot something like com.bittorrent.BitTorrent.307036. So I run sudo launchctl remove com.bittorrent.BitTorrent.307036, and still nothing happens, the app remains frozen in the dock.
Finally, I tried killall dock and it does nothing. This is happening quite frequently off late. Last day it happened to my Outlook app, I had to restart to get rid of it. How do I solve this problem?
iPhone 5S how do I force 5Ghz connection?
My wife and I both have 5S and both connect to BT home Hub on default settings. through the hub i can see she is connected using 5Gz but I and connected using 2.4. How can i make min use 5, at least as a preference?
Can't update Java due to apparently newer version already installed
I'm trying to update Java on my MacBook (OS X 10.9.5). When I download the most resent version (v8 update 40) from java.com and try to install it, it pops up an error box saying
You are trying to install 1.8.40.27, however 14.9.0 is already installed
and that's it. In a terminal I get
java -version

But Firefox → Tools → Add-ons shows Java 14.9.0 (and says it's outdated), though there is no option to de-install it.
So, how can I install the most recent Java 8.40? How can I uninstall this mysterious Java 14.9.0?

Facebook says it needs IOS version 7 to run, I had Facebook on it before I wiped it. Can I get an older version of Facebook back?
To install Shotwell in OSX
I install the first dependencies of Shotwell successfully
brew install libGphoto2 vala libgee
The installation of exiv2 pyexiv2 should install gexiv2, according to this thread. However, I installed the commands successfully.
I run ./configure and get

Cannot delete songs from iPhone
On my iPhone I see a list of songs I cannot delete. Here's what I tried:
- Go to settings -> memory usage -> iTunes -> delete all music
- Disable iTunes Match
- Disable show all music
- Connect to iTunes on the Mac and manually remove all synced songs
- Swipe to delete does not work
- The songs do not show any sort if cloud icons
iTunes shows 3.3GB of Audio on my device which I cannot get rid of.
Any other ideas what to try?
Missing songs after 8.0 Update and sync
I did the ioS update a few months back and noticed that the songs I had downloaded in May and June 2014 were missing. Since the computer I used that had Itunes was stolen in July 2014, I had no way to access Itunes. Finally tonight I was able to plug in my phone to Itunes on the computer. The playlists showed up with the missing songs in them. I then selected sync hoping they would be moved to my iphone 5, Instead my playlists are now empty. Is there a way to get my songs back?

Configuring Apple Mail with Gmail Aliases
I am trying to use AppleMail and trying to configure to using gmail alias.
My primary email address is sid@mydomain.com and I have configured this in Apple Mail and able to send / receive messages properly. This primary email has an alias on my google apps for business sid-sales@mydomain.com
Whenever someone sends an email to sid-sales@mydomain.com, I receive it on sid@mydomain.com and on the Apple Mail. So far good.
Now, I want to configure Apple Mail so that I am able to send emails using both my primary email and the alias (and with different names). So, I want to have two email configurations -
- Sid <sid@mydomain.com>
- Sid from Sales <sid-sales@mydomain.com>
I am not able to get this working. I tried adding both the emails separated by a comma in the Accounts section. After doing this, both the emails appear in the From field and I can choose from one but the receiving side is always getting my email from my primary email address. So, if I choose sid-sales@mydomain.com in the From field, the receiver still sees sid@mydomain.com
I also tried changing the plist file by adding EmailAliases - I was able to change the Name but the email address is still sid@mydomain.com
Can somebody please help me with this? I tried searching a lot on the internet but I am not able to find anything which will solve the problem.
USB Hub in 'safe' mode?
I have a powered USB 2.0 hub which suddenly started acting weird. No new devices or anything, same setup as ever. All connected devices still working, except one. The one device (a driverless sound card) did work when connected directly, and it is not USB-powered.
Same problem on two machines, one running 10.9, one running 10.10.
After a lot of disconnecting and reconnecting, it suddenly started working again. I then discovered through System Report (About this Mac -> System Report ... -> USB), that the name of the USB hub didn't say [Safe] anymore, so it apparently was in some weird state at some point.
I've attached an image showing how it looked in System Report.
Has anyone had similar experience?
How to give custom name to time machine backup
I have used used clonezilla when I was a windows and linux user. I really liked how clonezilla allows you to rename your backup to anything. It is possible to do so during time machine backup? I want to name my backups so I might not flash something else that I don't want.
My Iphone is attached to another person's account
I was given an Iphone before he died. I did a factory reset for the phone and I was told to activate it on Itunes. I connected the Iphone to my computer it was asking me for my the email address and password. Which I don't know. what should i do please. thank you.
