Bootcamp fail stuck at no bootable device (hold option not working)

I've been trying to find an answer to my problem all day with no luck.

I tried installing windows 7 via bootcamp this morning. I accidentally created the partition before creating a bootable usb drive with the copy of windows 7 on it. Now when I boot up my mac, it goes to an empty grey screen then goes into the "no bootable device" screen. I have tried pressing and holding option once I power on the laptop but that still takes me to the same "no bootable device" screen. I am currently in the process of creating an EFI bootable usb and hoping that this will work.

Is there something I haven't tried yet?

Mailto links on websites open iTerm instead of Mail

In both Chrome and Safari mailto: links open up iTerm instead of Mail.

This seemed to have started happening right around the same time I added a shortcut through Settings > Keyboard > Shortcuts > App Shortcuts to use command+enter to Send in the Mail app.

But I have no idea if that has anything to do with this problem, or where else to even begin looking.

Text cursor freezing, jumping

Sometimes the text cursor stops flashing, and when I type nothing shows up. Then I click the mouse, and suddenly everything I just typed appears, and the cursor's frozen at a new location.

When I click inside the white area of the scroll bar, the page jumps and the cursor starts flashing again. Problem solved temporarily.

This started when I upgraded from 10.5 Leopard to 10.6 Snow Leopard. The answer to this question suggested that it was a mechanical issue with the mouse. For me it isn't, since I'm using the built-in trackpad.

Any ideas?

New TestFlight Beta Setting build status is "Created"

Please check the screen shot , I have uploaded build on TestFlight beta iTunes. Its status is showing "Created" to me instead of Processing . Does any one know about it ? Does apple need to check ?

my iphone 5 bended. i went to apple and they gave me a new one. trying to restore it to my latest backup from before going to service thru icloud i'm asked to login as a pre existing user: mryoung.blogbus@yahoo.cn. this is on the phone.

when i try to restore thru icloud on itunes the latest backup if from november, and my bendgate didn't happen till january (entered for service at 5/1), so i'm sure i had later backups. they just don't show up.

How can I view (not download) iPhone pictures on a Mac screen?

I have an iPhone 5 with various photos. I have a Mac desktop running OS X Yosemite.

Is there a way to view a fullscreen slideshow of the photos on the Mac display? I don't want to download the photos, just flip through them for display on the big screen.

Use *Two* Thunderbolt/Firewire adapters on MacBook for 400 and 800 devices?

I'm completing and audio recording setup.

Equipment:

• Macbook 13" Retina late 2012 with Two Thunderbolt ports


• One Focusrite Saffire audio interface (Firewire 400)


• One OWC Mercury external SSD drive (Firewire 800)


• I already own One Thunderbolt/Firewire adapter

Question: what is the optimal setup for these devices? Specifically, will I get full Firewire 800 speeds if I purchase a second Thunderbolt/Firewire adapter and run the external FW800 drive alone on that port?

I gather from reading other threads that, if I am to use only the one adapter, I would place the FW800 drive first in the chain, and the FW400 audio input last. However, it also appears that, if the FW400 device "talks a lot," it can still slow down the speed of the FW800 device. So, the question is whether that same behavior might happen even if the devices were each on its own adapter through separate Thunderbolt ports?

One might presume both devices would operate at optimum speed if on separate ports, but perhaps the internal architecture of the Macbook still handles them as if on one port?

How to export all emails from a mailbox in Apple Mail

I'm trying to export all emails from an account I have setup and mapped to Apple mail on my computer. There are 1200 emails. The account is no longer active so i'm trying to export all the emails in the mailbox in apple mail to an .mbox file that I can import somewhere else.

The problem is when I do an export of the mailbox and then import it somewhere, there are only 88 emails when there should be 1200+.

Why is this only exporting some of the emails and how can I make it so it exports all of them?

Software Recommendation: Menu bar app to run saved bash scripts

I am looking for a an app that has a dropdown menu from the menu bar to run bash script snippets.

Does something like that exist?

Java 8 is not working

I have updated to yosemite and installed java 8. But, it is not working. When I try to verify java version or run any java app on browsers (chrome and safari), I see blank field. If there is any solution, thanks for sharing.

Are links in Podcasts show notes supposed to be "live"?

Most podcasts have show notes that describe the individual episode. In iTunes, you can see these show notes by clicking on the episode, then clicking on the "i" at the right of the episode description; in the iOS Podcasts app, you can see these show notes by tapping the podcast's "album art" in the Now Playing screen.

Often these show notes are written to include links to web sites, but AFAIK neither iTunes nor the iOS app treat these links as other than plain text; there does not seem to be any way to actually open them. See for example the screenshot below; notice that in the middle of the paragraph (about five lines down) the words "click here" appear, but are non-functional.

I suppose it is possible that the the responsibility for this rests with the publisher (i.e. maybe they are just copy/pasting text from their website and not properly coding the episode description) but if so it seems to be a universal problem; I've never seen a podcast in which this did work. It seems more likely to me that neither iTunes nor iOS is set up to handle live links in episode descriptions.

Am I right about this? Are those links supposed to work? Or am I just doing something wrong?

Edited to add: If the answer to this question is "No, those descriptions don't work", is there a better Podcasts app that does handle those as live links?

My iPad has stopped receiving emails

Suddenly, my iPad has stopped receiving emails. I can still receive them on my iPhone, and I can still send emails from both. The only recent change on my iPad was the installation of iOS 8.1.3.

Configuring OS X Firewall to enable SSH/SCP only on the local subnet?

We would like to configure OS X to only allow Remote File Sharing (SCP) from a specific range of internal IP addresses. That way they only accessible when the user is connected via the VPN.

What's the preferred method? Doesn't seem to be doable via the Security & Privacy tab.

Internal keyboard + touchpad stopped working, on Macbook air 'early 2014', Yosemite 10.10.2

my internal keyboard and touchpad - stopped working a few days ago. When it first happened - I made the macbook sleep-wake-up several times - and it came back to normal. External keyboard+touchpad - work normally - but internal keyboard keeps randomly 'typing' in characters for me, especially 'fn-f' keys (such as randomly muting/adjusting volume, etc). If I reboot into 'Rescue mode' - they work flawlessly, but in 'safe boot' - they keep misbehaving. I've tried already NVRAM+SMC reset chords on startup. The rate of the problem is becoming worse, that it, it's less and less likely the internal input devices will work (immediately after sleep). I've checked preferences and touchpad is enabled, no-keyboard-keys etc. Any advice? OS-reinstall? anything to post here? thank you!

Difference in performance between iOS devices

I'm developing a game for ios and notice surprising results performance-wise between my devices.

for example, my iphone 5 will perform better than my ipad mini retina. I really have no point of reference on how the two should compare. If they shared similar processor speeds, it would make sense that the ipad might suffer a performance problem since the textures are twice as big.. but I'm just guessing here.

When I look up processor speeds etc, I seem to find very general information (A6, or A7 processor). I'm looking for some easily understandable performance comparisons between devices so that I can predict which devices would perform better.

Unclear iCloud Photo Library Feature

If I fill up the space on my iPhone with photos, but those photos are synced with iCloud Photo Library, how do I remove those photos from my iPhone without deleting them from iCloud Photo Library. Hence, when I try to delete a photo it says:

This photo will be deleted from iCloud Photo Library on all your devices.

Seems like I'm stuck?

I have a 3GS with a smashed screen but touch has gone

I dropped my 3GS and the screen is completely wrecked but I need contacts and pictures off it. I hadn't enabled iCloud ( or I don't think so) and I have a passcode on the phone which I can't unlock for iTunes. Help how do I get my stuff off

Cannot seem to add internal testers with existing iTunes Connect accounts

I am trying to add internal beta testers to my app. The app is still in development, so I do not wish to submit the app for review for external testers. It seems the only way I can add an internal tester is if I add them as a new iTunes Connect User. When I try to though, I cannot because the Apple ID (email) of the person I want to invite already has an iTunes Connect account. Is there any way I can add people who already have Connect accounts as internal testers?

Option key not working after liquid damage. Keyboard or logic board?

I made the gut-wrenching mistake of spilling a half glass of water on my mid-2014 MacBook Pro. I immediately turned it over, it made some sizzling noises, and then turned itself off. To be more specific on location, it was the top left of the upper case, activating the liquid sensor by the power and the fan nearest the power.

Over the next 40 hours or so, I had a fan blowing on it, and set it in a bag of rice for a good 12-18 hours attempting to dry up any remaining moisture. It turned on perfectly after that, I was able to make a backup and start searching for issues. The only thing that I can find is that the left option key is registering as control+option. Calls to the Apple Store and authorized Apple repair shops are coming up with estimates of $600-$1,240.

I've made a couple tricky repairs on MacBooks and iPhones in the past so I actually somewhat enjoy doing hardware repairs and want to attempt to repair it myself. My question is, will just replacing the keyboard remedy my issue? Or is this input error related to an issue with the logic board?

I've read some things to make sure I clean up the corroded areas on the logic board with isopropyl alcohol as well and plan to do that. Anything else I should be aware of that could affect it long term?

iPhone Contact List - Custom Labels recognized as a Mobile Number

When a number is labeled as "mobile" in your contact list, you can click the little "cloud" shortcut to send a text message to that number.

If the number is labeled as "Home" or anything else, that text message short cut goes away (because the system thinks it is not a mobile number)

My question is, can you use a custom label and somehow tell the system that the number is a mobile number so you can send text messages to it?

I have a lot of contacts that have more than 1 cell phone and it would be nice to be able to label them as something other than "mobile" so that I know which cell phone i'm texting.

Having all the numbers labeled "mobile" does nothing to let me know which number is which.

OSX Yosemite - Mission Control stopped working

Not sure how long this has been happened, but I just noticed it AFTER Yosemite update.

Mission control just does not work: using hot corners, keyboard shortcut, or even double clicking Mission Control.app, there is no way to make my Mac go to Mission Control/Exposé. By the way, I have hot corners for showing desktop and app windows exposé, neither of which work. Hot corners for dashboard and Notification center work as usual.

Any ideas what does it happen, how could I solve it?

No bootable device after failed window installation via bootcamp

while trying to install windows 7 via bootcamp on my mbp retina today i really messed up.

after getting into the drive selection in the windows installation utility i deleted the other partitions(3 of them - as i remember one 60mb one 200mb) to get more space for my bootcamp partition. after i deleted them(not formatted anything - just deleted) - it just showed one huge unpartitioned disk with the whole ~250gb of my ssd. i realized that i messed up and exited the installation routine just to find out that i can't boot into anything right now.

when i do a regular restart it shows an error message "no bootable device - insert boot disk and press any key" - i also tried the "alt+cmd+r" method which doesn't do anything...

please send my any ideas/tipps how to go on - i got really important documents on that machine and i haven't made any backup.

How to get SATA III on Mac Pro 5.1

I just put a nice new Samsung 850 SSD drive into my Mac Pro 5.1 and noticed that it maxes out at 250MB/s write/read. The drive should be capable of speeds around 500MB/s, so the culprit here is surely SATA II port inside the Mac Pro.

My question is... do you know of any PCIe card that I could use to get SATA III in my Mac Pro? I do not need RAID capability, connecting just this one drive would be enough for me.

I have this AppleScript find all documents whose content matches the text 'theMessage' and it works perfectly fine:

How to remove highlighting from emails in Mail?

I created a rule that applies a mint green color to a lot of emails in my mailbox. I no longer want that color on those emails and I do not see a way to remove this highlighting for even a single email. I know I could create a new rule to give them a different color, but there is no rule semantics for removing color either.

It seems that all of my email's subjects in Mac Mailbox are now permanently stained.

Changing preset colors in Keynote

I know how to create custom color palettes in MacOS Keynote. I also know that different presentation templates come with different set of preset colors. However, I can't find a way to change this set of preset colors in a customly created template. Whenever changing colors, instead of clicking on the preset colors button and selecting the color (2 clicks, marked A on the diagram below), I need to click the color wheel, select the palette and select the color (3 clicks, marked B on the diagram below).

Is there a way to attach a palette to a template so that it becomes its custom set of preset colors?

Yosemite flickering icons on menu toolsbar

Anyone had any luck fixing the flickering of icons (dropbox, battery, wi-fi, time, etc) on the menu bar (top-right corner of the screen).

I've tried all the hardware resets, toggling reducing transparency, displays have separate spaces, enabling dark menu bar, etc.

Nothing has worked.

Called Apple and they made me do all the hardware and software resets (including OS re-installation!!!) and nothing has worked.

How do I restore unresponsive ipad?

The problem is that I can't turn it off. I don't think the power button is okay, it only locks and unlocks the screen but does not shut the device off. My ipad however, I think, is also broken, i can't use it, nothing is responsive, the screen is empty, only the wallpaper is on there. The assistive touch is pretty much the only thing that is responding, with the volumes plus the notification center. But that's it. Even the lock screen button from the assistive touch doesn't respond when I hold it to shut the device off. What am I gonna do?

Why am I getting command not found even though path to command exists in PATH variable?

On Mac OSX 10.10.1 I get command not found for anything installed in /usr/local/bin (however command is found if I use sudo) PATH variable contains this path. for example pip. Here are some lines from terminal:

My MPB always lost wifi connection after update OS to Yosemite, especially when i debugging in XCode 6. And the only way to bring network connection back is restarting OS. How can i resolve network connection without restarting?

Trackpad sometimes won't switch on

I have an intermittent fault with my trackpad.

Sometimes it just won't turn on. Or sometimes it's working one moment and then just dies.

And any combination of replacing batteries, turning the MacBook Wi-Fi on/off, attempting to Power on the trackpad just won't do anything.

And then 10 minutes later when I'm doing something completely different, the green light just comes on and "trackpad connected" appears on my screen and I'm good to go again.

Is it a faulty unit? Is there some firmware bug?

Does anyone have any idea for fixing it?

PS how about tags for faulty, intermittent-fault?

Logging location of a MacBook running OS X Yosemite

Is it possible to log the time and location of a MacBook using Location Services in OS X?

For example, every 15 mins a location lookup is triggered. If the most recently logged location is different from the lookup (to a certain level of accuracy to reduce slight changes in location detected) then log the time and location.

It would be nice if you could label certain locations as, for example, "Home" and "Work", etc.

Kernel_task boosts CPU to 300%-500% (Yosemitte MBP 2011 without a battery)

Long story short, my oldie MBP 2011' battery started bloating, I've contacted a repair service center and they advised me to remove the battery and use it on AC power, while they get a new battery for a replacement. What I've noticed a few days back, that my MBP starts extremely lagging from time to time. After a restart, it works fine for 12 - 20 hours and then the problem appears again. I've noticed that when the lagging starts, kernel_task begins consuming up to 500% CPU. So I bet that the problem's source is kernel_task, but what causes its extreme rise? Could it be a removed battery?

Yosemite - Sleep Wake Failure - MBP Late 2013

I have the following MBP which is currently running Yosemite V10.10.2

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013) Processor: 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7 Memory: 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB

Ever since I upgraded to Yosemite I get persistent crashes when the machine wakes from sleeping. It's very intermittent, sometimes it'll be fine for days and others it will happen a few times per day. Either way it's very frustrating.

It results in the laptop simply being switched off when I reopen the lid and I have to start again by pressing the power button. Or it has rebooted already and is back at the login prompt. Again, there is no clear pattern when either of those happens though.

The applications I run every day and are usually open when it happens are Chrome and VMWare Fusion 7 running a single VM with Windows8. I also have iPhoto and Eclipse open more often than not.

I've searched the forum and a few people seem to be experiencing similar but not exactly the same symptoms. A search on the reported code doesn't return any results. I've tried a PRAM reset but I get the same behaviour.

Is there any way of diagnosing exactly what's causing this?

iTunes error: Could not allocate a resource

I'm getting the error "Could not allocate a resource" in iTunes whenever I connect a device. I've seen this as a possible fix:

sudo rm -rf /var/db/lockdown/

I've tried that and restarted my machine a handful of times, but no luck. I've also tried the following:

• Changing USB ports.


• Delete and reinstall iTunes.


• Reset PRAM and SMC.


• Recovery mode with software update (iTunes detected the device in recovery mode).

In addition to the error, whenever I connect a device it asks me "Trust This Computer?"

This is occurring on an iPhone 5 and iPhone 6+ with lightning, as well as an iPad 3 with the old style connector.

A Strange effect on iPhone6 and iPhone6+ when I Swipe Left-to-Right and Right-to-Left on Home button twice

10.10.2 Yosemite applications quit unexpectedly / don't open.

With my new installed 10.10.2 Yosemite install I am unable to open applications like uTorrent and Adwaremedic.

Are people experiencing the same problem and do any of you know a solution? Thanks for helping me.

Need help in reverting Taig Jailbreak

After installing Taig Jailbreak for iOS 8.1.2 my iPhone 6 plus is not syncing with my iTunes. On my Macbook Pro the iPhone is shown in the iTunes as grayed out icon. But in a windows machine it is showing correctly. The only thing in the windows machine is the sync takes forever and it is stuck every time.

I want to restore my phone to original. I have mobile terminal in the iPhone 6 plus. Is there any way I can revert the jailbreak out of my iPhone without the help of iTunes?

apple id is associated with a deleted email address

I had to change my email address and my Apple ID is totally confused. I was able to put in an active email address for messages but it is not sending anything to that. (i.e. on iPhone, Settings/iCloud at the top it says "Account not verified" "Check your email at ..old address.. for instructions to verify this account.") When I try to set up iCloud on my iPhone almost everything is grayed out. I am constantly asked to log in to iCloud.

I can download apps from the App Store but I cannot use iCloud and cannot make any changes to it in Settings. I cannot back up anything in iCloud so am afraid to upgrade the operating system.

I previously shut off iCloud because using it cost me $20/month in data transmission for no cost to use iCloud, but now have unlimited data.

I have no idea what caused any of the problems.

accessing Keychain Access from terminal - OSX

I am on OSX and using my terminal to access my Keychain Access. So I use this command

security find-internet-password -a myaccount -s myservice -g

and it works correctly but before I can get the response to this query, there is a pop-up showing and telling me that security wants to use confidential data kept in the Keychain... (translated from french). Why is it so ? How can I desactivate it ?

Btw, I tried to ssh to my own computer, in order to prevent the popup to show, but then I got no output when I ran the same command...

How can i delete the 13.2gb photo library off of my phone?

I have already gone through the creating an empty folder and synced just that folder and when that didn't work I unselected the box to sync photos and that also did not resolve my issue. I'm at a loss on how to remove the data from my iPhone5. I currently have 250 photos/videos on my phone that are just over 2gb...I would really appreciate help clearing out such a large portion of my harddrive

Filevault 2 enabled with recovery key linked to apple id, can I get the key?

I enabled FileVault on my Yosemite mac, and selected the 'allow apple ID to reset password' option.

I paid attention to all the dialogs and though they said to write down my recovery key, it was never shown to me.

Did something go wrong? When I did this years ago with FileVault 1 I was shown the key.

I tested using the apple ID password change function and it seemed to work OK but I'd like to have a copy of the key written down as an extra safety measure.
