For example, I would like to rename the advanced voice command "copy that" to "copy" without having to disable the built-in advanced voice command "copy that" and creating a new voice command "copy".
Is there any way to change the pause required before Voice Commands in OS X Yosemite? I.e. if I want to dictate "hello world" then move the cursor on the left, I'll have to say "hello world move left": I would like to define how long the pause between "hello world" and "move left" should be in order for Yosemite to recognize that "move left" is a voice command.

As an ongoing issue (for at least the past three major OS X versions), I find that when trying to remote to another machine using Screen Sharing, the remote screen gets painted completely black. Moving the mouse will result in the area immediately under the pointer being redrawn correctly, and dragging a window (in the remote session) off screen then back on will redraw that window. Sometimes other areas of the screen will redraw themselves (usually when there is an actual change), but most the screen simply remains black, sometimes even repainting back to full black again.
Network connectivity doesn't seem to be a factor; this happens both on a fast LAN and across the Internet with 400-500ms latency. Hardware doesn't seem a factor either; using a range of Mac Minis and Macbooks. Screen sharing sometimes initiated via Remote Desktop, sometimes just clicking on Share Screen in the Finder. While I can work around this glitch (I tend to just SSH in for maintenance), I thought I'd see if anyone out there has any suggestions!
maybe it's not possible, but I would like to be able to change the title of a shortcut (especially web shortcuts aet as icons). Is this possible?
For example, I have a Safari shortcut for Facebook. As an icon, it's labeled "Facebook". Can I change that to "m.facebook" or something else?

I'm currentyl trying to get apples automount working with osxfuse and sshfs. The result should be that a specified folder gets automaticly mounted if it is used.
What i've done so far:
/sbin/mount_sshfs -> /usr/local/bin/sshfs /- auto_ssh -nosuid created the /etc/auto_ssh config file:
/mnt -fstype=sshfs,sshfs_debug,allow_other,idmap=user,follow_symlinks,max_read=65536,rw,nodev,cache=no,IdentityFile=/Users/myUsername/.ssh/sshfs remoteUser@remoteHost:/path/to/folder
afterwards reload automount via : sudo automount -cv
If i now try to cd into mnt i get the following error

At the school I work at we have an Active Directory based network and I am trying to setup Profile Manager to control our iPads. Open Directory has imported/synced every single group in the AD tree and it really clutters up the Profile Manager group listing.
Is there a way to only sync selected groups into Open Directory?
I shutdown my computer when I left work and when I got home turned it back on. When it booted back up the second drive (in the dvd drive bay) had a strange name like A[]\tr/sj or something like that. My desktop background was the stock Mavericks background. Google Drive, Skydrive, and Dropbox all complained they couldn't find their respective folders since they were all on the drive that got re-named.
I restarted again, same thing. After the second reboot I just renamed the drive and restarted again. Once it booted up everything was fine.
Any idea what could have caused this or what it may be a harbinger of?
My iPhone 4S shows that I have 1.3GB of photos but I don't have any. How to empty this amount of space and make it available?
I go to "settings" -> "general" -> "usage" -> "manage storage" and then "Photos & Camera" shows that there is 1.3GB of using space but I have no photos at all. So I go to that "Photos & Camera" and I see that "Shared Photo Stream" takes most of it, so about 1.3GB but I don't share any photos. But! If I take one photo using camera and then it appears in "Photos" -> "Camera Roll" then I go to "settings" -> "general" -> "usage" -> "manage storage" -> "Photos & Camera" then it shows that "Photo Library" uses almost 1.3GB of storage space in my iPhone and "Shared Photo Stream" almost none. And if I delete this one photo then "Shared Photo Stream" shows that there is almost 1.3GB using space and "Photo Library" uses almost none.
I use iOS 8 but before when there was iOS7 the problem was the same and it was the main reason why I updated to iOS8 because I was hopping it resolves this problem but the problem is still there.

My iPhone is slightly problematic and I can't seem to send a message without the SIM card. I have already tried alot, including shutting down my apple account. Any help, please say so.
I've read that only the OWC one supports this but then again some people claim it's bogus.
So I was wondering what SSD brand and models I can get to upgrade my Late 2012 MBP that when I upgrade to Yosemite, it won't break as apparently if you have any non-Apple SSD, Yosemite will crash and display gray area due to kext signing.
I rather not get OWC one because even though everyone seems to swear by them, they don't have much review scores on sites like Amazon and rather go to more popular ones like Samsung 840 EVO, not only they are cheaper. But not sure if Samsung 840 EVO can work with kext signing.

I just install XAMPP5.6.3-0 and Movable Type 6.0.5 on my OS X 10.8.5 sysytem. I also used Homebrew 0.9.5 to install Imagemagik. When I check on Movable Types's installed modules section the it shows Imagemagik has not been installed. How do I make XAMPP and Movable Type recognize my installed Perl modules.

Trying to have two monitors connected to Mac Mini mid-2011. It has one Mini DisplayPort and one HDMI outputs.
I have 27" monitor connected to Mini Display port of the Mac Mini mid-2011. I was going to connect 24" Apple display to it, but can't find anywhere on internet male-HDMI/female-Mini DisplayPort adapter.
There are the other way around (male DP to female HDMI) available, but not the one to connect 24" display as a second one.
I was thinking about finding a male HDMI–to something in between–to female Mini DisplayPort cables, but can't figure out what that "something in between" could be that would carry on digital signal.
Any advices?

I recently purchased a used MacMini3,1 (Late 2009) with a 2.26 Intel Core 2 Duo processor, and 2 GB of memory. The seller shipped it to me with Snow Leopard installed, and it ran smooth and fast. I just upgraded it to Lion and it's very sluggish. Would adding more memory fix this, or possibly upgrading to Mountain Lion make the computer run better? I installed Yosemite and it was unusably slow. I realize the computer is old, but does anyone have a solution?
I am trying to determine if these are the most RECENT texts or most FREQUENT texts. Dialing "+1" in the "To:" field of imessage, will bring up a "recent" list- even if the text thread and/or the contact have been deleted. If the "recent" has been deleted from your phone, it will appear in a gray font with an "i" to the right of the number. If you click on the "i", you are given the option to delete the number from the "recents" list- but are NOT given the same option if the contact remains in your phone.
I have latest software on both Macbook and iphone 6 plus.
My imessage thread on Macbook is not in sync with the message thread on my iphone for a given phone #.
For example, on a given day and recipient/phone # I can see a whole bunch of message exhange on Macbook iMessage. Those same messages do not appear on iPhone messages for that same recipient and day.
Bottom line all message threads on iPhone are not in sync with iMessage.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

When using the new continuity feature in OS X Yosemite together with my iPhone 5S running iOS 8, I can't dial from my MacBook. Here's what I do:
After a couple of seconds, the following message is shown:
The message says: "iPhone in Use. Your iPhone is already on a call." I'm pretty sure that my phone is not on a call at this point.
Clicking the "Try Again" option provides the same result.
What am I doing wrong?
cpanel app can be used to get a 3d look for the default flat dock of Yosemite. But this 3d dock's panel is just a transparent background image. No translucency/frost or anything. So the quality is poor imo. Is there anyway to get a quality 3d dock in Yosemite like the one in mavricks but with Yosemite icons?
I'm using Google Apps at work and it adds a bunch of calendars for my coworkers to Calendar, which is exactly what I want. However I keep getting invitation notifications for events I'm not actually invited to. In order to clear the notification I have to Accept, Decline, or respond with Maybe.
Is there anyway to stop this? A lot of them are duplicates. What is even more confusing is some events actually behave the way I expect where they just notify me and I can only respond with OK.
For the life of me I can't figure out whats going on. I wish I knew why some events behave differently.
Bonus points if you know of something like Event Merge for Google Calendar that works in Calendar.app. Because the duplicate events are also annoying even though I know it's just that the event is on multiple calendars. It would be nice to collapse them.
At this point I'd even be open to suggestions for a better Calendar app provided it handled this better.

If not, am I correct that Snow Leopard Server will run on Parallels (and it seems this is the 'legit' way, I'd like to be 100% legal), and that would solve my goal of hanging on to some PPC apps without the constant need to reboot to other drives or use multiple machines?
I'm running a mid-2010 Mac Pro, and need higher than Snow Leopard to run the new TurboTax, but wanting to hold on to an investment of $$ in PPC-only apps.
I received an email in Mail (OS X 10.8.5), with a couple of links to Dropbox files. I CTRL-click on them and choose the option "Download linked file", and the download starts… but there's no progress indicator anywhere (unlike with Safari downloads). How can I check whether the download has finished or not, or even if it's progressing?
Is there a way to run a specified script or program when the screen is locked or unlocked? Ideally a bash function or an AppleScript.
Is there an event that I could subscribe to that would allow me to do that? Or an existing app that supports this?
my Macbook air is called Johannes-Air. But when I open the terminal sometimes it says Johannes-Air and sometimes johannes-air. Does anyone know why this happens and how to stop it?
We have a group of users from AD that I'd like to be able to have higher privileges when logged into OSX but not full admin rights. Ideally it needs to be based on an AD group as the members will change over time.
I can't find anywhere to set this but I've got no experience with OSX Server so it may not even be possible. If someone could point me in the right direction, that'd be great.

I've done a search for various keywords without being able to find it.
I'm using homebrew and have a lot of libraries in /usr/local/lib as well as include files in /usr/local/include. What is the easiest way to make sure that clang and ld in all circumstances will look into these directories?
My main issue is that some programs seem to have build scripts that filter environment variables, so storing these paths in the environment will not work. Is there a configuration file somewhere that stores the default search paths or is this hard coded into the program?
I realize that I could replace the clang and ld binaries with wrapper scripts that add the -L and -I flags to each call, but this is not very clean and would be overwritten by updates of Xcode.
This question is not about how to create your own project in Xcode and configure the search paths. What I want is to make compilation of 3rd party software easy.
Xcode 6 has Run, build, pretty much everything in debug menu greyed out for a single C file that I open in Xcode. This is a prebuilt program. I wish to debug it, and make changes to the file, but it seems that it must be a project to use debug functionality. Is this true?
I am in university so I wish to have single files as they are submitted like that. If it is not possible to debug on Xcode, are there any better recommendations?

I would like to recompile all installed software (or at least some formulas) from Homebrew using gcc from Homebrew.
Is it possible to force Homebrew to use gcc?
I have tried to set all kinds of environment variables, but it does not help :/ ?

The reason for doing that is that I want to compile some code* with gcc and link against libraries installed from brew. But it seems that gcc can't link to libs built by clang. On other side it lacks support of some C++11 features which are required by the program* i would like to compile.
So only solution that I see, is to recompile all needed libs with gcc.

Applications like for example TextEdit show multiple entries in the Open Recent list despite that the number of recent items is set to none in the system preferences.
Is there another way to adjust the number of recent items? Or to automatically clear the lists of all applications on logout?
There is a cool utility out there called sshuttle (http://ift.tt/g244aP). It has depended on ipfw to forward packets in the past. It appears that ipfw is mostly broken in Mavericks and the advice is to use PacketFilter for this now.
I've spent most of the day looking at PacketFilter and it appears ipfw has a feature that PacketFilter does not support (hope I'm wrong about this).
The following rule:
ipfw -q add 12300 fwd 127.0.0.1,12300 tcp from any to any not ipttl 42 keep-state setup
will forward all traffic to 127.0.0.1 (localhost) port 12300. It does not, however, change the destination IP or port in the TCP packet. This is important to sshuttle as it uses the information about the original destination to forward the packet on to another network.
The closest rule I can find in the PacketFilter world is:
rdr pass proto tcp from any to any -> 127.0.0.1 port 12300
This rule does send the traffic to 127.0.0.1 (localhost) port 12300 but it also rewrites the destination address to be 127.0.0.1.
Any ideas on how to get the behavior sshuttle needs in OS X?
Before Xcode 6 one could go to the Xcode Organizer window. Tap on the Devices tab. Select the connected device and click the "Use for Development" button. See here.
However with Xcode 6 there are no longer a "Use for Development" button. So how does one enable it?

I am trying to enroll into iOS Developer Program as government organization.
One of the requirements is:
- The legal authority to bind your company/organization to Apple Developer Program legal agreements.
I am having some confusions with understanding that.
Is it just requiring an ID for a responsible person on the organization, let say the IT manager?
First of all help me to get bootcamp drivers for my MacBook pro retina 15 inch version. They include all the drivers in that pack. I have downloaded bootcamp drivers twice and every time they don't work for my Mac. Also, help me to install those drivers in my windows running on parallel desktop. Every time I try to install Intel VGA drivers. A message pop ups saying, your version of windows doesn't support them. I am running Windows 7 Enterprise.
I am not having good graphics in parallel desktop so I am installing these drivers. If you want particular details to help me about my MacBook, let me know in comments.
