Using Applescript to fool key logger with keystrokes?

So I don't know much about how Mac processes keystrokes, but if I wrote a simple AppleScript that opened a TextEdit document and started typing a huge block of text, would this effectively mask my typing if it ran in the background? OR does Mac process the AppleScript keystroke input first then whatever I'm typing second?

iOS App Review: no Game Center features within the app (x-post from S.O.)

(I just posted this on StackOverflow, and was advised I might get better results here, so here goes...)

I've developed an iOS game - a simple sidescroller shooter. The game uses GameCenter for leaderboards and achievements. In my own build, in Sandbox mode, the game authenticates, welcomes the user, displays the leaderboard overlay, everything works great. In the game's menu is a button that connects to Game Center if it's not already authenticated, then pulls up the Leaderboard overlay. This works great in Sandbox.

I submitted the game to App Review, and it was rejected on the basis that the button mentioned above in fact does nothing. If I try to authenticate without Sandbox mode, I get the message in Xcode that my application is not recognized by Game Center. Based on this thread: iOS 8 beta 5 Game Center Sandbox wont recognize my app, I assume this is expected behavior for an Ad Hoc build.

My problem - since the submission build is signed with a separate profile and certificate, I will never have a way to see exactly what the reviewer is seeing with Game Center if I understand everything correctly. In iTunesConnect, everything is and has been turned on the whole time - Game Center, Leaderboards, and Achievements, for both the app and for this version of the app. Inside Xcode, the build does indeed have GameKit enabled.

I've posted about this to Apple's forums (both to Game Center and to App Review) with no response. Since the game was built with Unity, I also posted to Unity's forums for the heck of it, though I doubt this is a Unity thing. No response. App Review says to go to Developer Tech Support (DTS), and DTS says to talk to App Review.

Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to actually create an iTC Sandbox user for the reviewer? (This would still require them to use Sandbox mode, of course). Do I appeal the review? Is this not simply a case of them needing to "turn on" GameCenter for the live version? All I see on the Internet are repeats of the "just use Sandbox mode" suggestion, which does indeed work for development&distribution but not for submission/review.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated, as I'm getting a bit frustrated with the idea that nobody's seen this happen before.

Remove Search.strtpoint.com Search Engine

I, perhaps unwisely, installed iFunBox based on an article in a respected Computer Magazine APC.

This appears to have installed a Search Engine in my browsers. It was easy to remove from Firefox, but I can't seem to delete search.strtpoint.com from Chrome.

Safari now crashes whenever I run it.

Any ideas on how to fix these problems?

EDIT I have managed to fix Chrome.

Online backup strategy or software for computer and external drive

I'm looking for an online backup strategy for my photos but there's something that none of the systems I've looked at addresses...

I keep my most recent photos on my mac and move them off to an external drive from time to time. I can't keep them all on my computer because I don't have enough space.

Most systems I've looked at can backup both the computer and the external drive. But when I move photos to the drive they will be removed from the computer backup and re-uploaded to the drive backup. This is not only a waste of bandwidth in re-uploading but I'll have to leave the drive plugged in until they are done uploading again. There could even be a time when they are not backed up - after they are 'deleted' from the original location and before they are uploaded again from the drive.

Can anyone suggest a system that handles this or a better way for me to manage my photos?

My photos are all in Lightroom, there are about 500gb so far, I guess I'm adding a few gb per week.

iPhone only showing purchased music

Today I was editing my music library, deleting old songs and such, and then of course, synced my iTunes to my iPhone. Everything synced fine until I realized my iPhone was only showing music purchased from iTunes. Nothing I downloaded nor my CD's were showing up. My playlists were all gone as well. I have tried to sync multiple times today and nothing has worked. I am NOT on iTunes Match. Please help asap!!

Itunes Match ... how do I see the music that's been downlaoded to device?

I've looked a lot on the web for this and done a lot of trial and error on my end but I cannot for the life of me figure this out...

I have itunes match installed, it works great! I can stream all of my itunes collection using wifi or celluar network.

It also has a neat option to download music to the device so that you can enjoy it when there's no data connection. However, how can I actually SEE what music is on my device and delete some music or manage it?? So confusing. If you scroll down a songs list, you can see indivdual songs that are downloaded to a device and delete them that way... howver, I just want to ideally be able to plug my iphone into my computer and see EXACTLY what music is on my device so I can delete some songs to add room.

I already have seen this link, but it doesn't exactly help me since I already everything listed for the information. http://ift.tt/14VGw5P

How to deal with whitespaces in OS X along filepaths when certain UNIX programs dislike it

I am trying to include a command in a TeX file to a bibliography file that I am storing centrally.

However, when including the filepath, like

/Foldername with whitespace/ANOTHER folder name with whitespace/nowsinfldrname/bibo.bib

my Unix-based typesetting system complains. Is there a way to rectify that other than renaming my folders?

I accidental went swimming with my iPod Touch 5th Generation

Why is my instant hotspot on Yosemite / iOS 8 inconsistent?

Sometimes, instant hotspot works in a split second. Sometimes, it works after 30 seconds, and other times, it just says "failed". In all cases, the state of the Mac running Yosemite or the iPhone is the same. To fix it, I have to restart one or both devices. What is the factor that is causing it not to work so I can always just turn it on without guessing which device to reboot? Is it something with bluetooth?

Clash of Clan account different Game Center login

i started playing COC with an iphone that was given to me. howerever, the Game Center user was not deleted and i just noticed that recently when i am creating a new apple id. i successfully created one and in my surprised when i tried to link to other device it said - Wrong account logged in. The current village is attached to a different Game Center Account than the one youre logged into. Please log out from the Game Center app and login again with the account attached to this village.

Problem is that, the person who is login to the Game Center is deceased.

Is there a way to link the account to other device without the login of the previoue Game Center user?

Application switcher not cycling anymore on hold

10.9.5 here

Suddenly my Application Switcher won't cycle anymore on hold. It still can cycle between apps one by one, but if I hold command tab it will stop after reaching the right end of the row. Before that it used to keep cycling until I release command tab.

It's not so much that the loss of this minor feature is annoying, it is why it happened in the first place. As far as I know I didn't install any new app nor change anything. I found out that the same is true for any session not just mine. I also tried safe boot to no avail.

Thanks for any hint.

How can I get google or other search engines to stop hijacking localhost urls with searches in Safari?

So I do quite a bit of PHP development on my MAMP localhost, which is all fine and good. However, frequently when I type in a localhost url (testsite.local or similar), safari will hijack my page load with a google search for the local url instead of loading the page. I know you can prefix the request with http:// to force url recognition, however each time I submit the page, safari trims this part out of the request, so loading another page or manually tweaking the url with a get string causes it to search instead of displaying the page. I really don't want to have to explicitly enter "http://" at the beginning of the url every single time that I change the page. Is there a way to force safari to try to load a url instead of a search by default?

MacPorts + Slatec Library for Fortran

I have just installed the Slatec Common Mathematical Library for fortran using Macports. The installation was smooth with no errors. However, when writing a simple example code that calls the QAG integration routine from the library I get the following error:

enter image description here

slamch is begin referred from r1mach - which is a routine that deals with machine constants I think.

This is an unexpected error given that the dependencies should have been taken care of by MacPorts.

Does anybody have experience with MacPorts fortran installs?

I’m using Mavericks 10.9.5 on in Intel laptop if that helps.

Many thanks. Paul

How to set-up Airport Timed Access Control such that Airplay keeps working?

I just tried using Airport Utility's Timed Access Control for my Airport Express and MacBook Pro. Unfortunately the Airport Express cuts out all communication with a device during the restricted time, including the Airplay "channel".

Is it possible to configure the Timed Access Control such that only WAN access is blocked and the Airport Express is kept working in "LAN-mode"?

Convert mp3s for podcasts into mp3s that will show up in iOS Music (not Podcasts) app

I would like to convert mp3 files for podcasts into "plain" mp3 files of the kind that when synced to iOS will show up in the Music app's playlists but not in the Podcasts app.

I've had some success in the past with converting ID3 tags to version 1.0 (Convert ID3 Tags ... in context menu) but for some reason this does not seem to work with current iTunes 12.

So how can one perform this conversion on OS X Yosemite (with iTunes 12), preferably without third-party software?

Unable to run Swift code using Command Line Tools

I downloaded Xcode CLT from http://ift.tt/P9600v and then installed the package.

Wanting to try my hands at Swift, I attempted to write a simple "hello, world" program, but, things seemed to be "wrong" from the first moment I started it. Look at the following screen output:

$ xcrun swift
Welcome to Swift! Type :help for assistance.
dyld: Library not loaded: @rpath/libswiftCore.dylib
Referenced from: /Library/Developer/CommandLineTools/Library/PrivateFrameworks/LLDB.framework/Versions/A/Resources/repl_swift
Reason: image not found
1> s="hello, world"
Error in auto-import:
failed to get module 'Swift' from AST context
1> ^D

I am especially concerned with the "dyld" line which is about line # 3 in that output.

I searched around on the web and found that this is caused by some certificate mismatch issues. But, I have neither requested any certificates from Apple, nor issued any certificates to anyone. I just want to try out Swift without downloading the entire XCode.

So, the questions are:

  • why am I getting the "dyld: Library not loaded:..." error?

  • how can i fix it?

  • how can I write, compile and run simple Swift code on the command line before downloading the entire XCode?

Your help is greatly appreciated. Anxiously waiting for your reply.

Submitting iOS app with password protected content

Is it possible to submit an iOS app to the App Store, where the content requires login/password and the publisher keeps control over who can have the account? It's somewhat like an Enterprise Distribution, except we don't want to be limited to the employes of the company. This way we could also give access to the content to selected clients.

iMovie 10.0.5 won't record live video

I'm trying to record an input from a Sony DVMC-DA2 Digital Media Converter. I can select the device and see the incoming signal. When I hit import it says "recording" and I see the time display advance as if it's recording. When I hit "stop importing" I have nothing. The notable thing is if I select the camera on the laptop in the import window it has a red button to initiate recording and that works fine. Help!

Brand new 10.10 Yosemite mail.app can not work with Yahoo Mail?

As of January 2015, I have a brand new Macbook Air running all fully updated Yosemite 10.10.

I have been simply trying to configure the mac OS mail app to work with a simple, normal Yahoo Mail account.

I add the account, it appears correctly in the Preferences settings as an internet account with "mail" checked... it creates entries in the left pane of the Mail window. BUT... nothing ever appears in the Inbox. AND, it DOES succeed in loading the many sub-folders within the mail account that I have configured in yahoo... AND, if I click on one of those, then after 20 seconds, it loads the folder's contents fine. AND, when I SEND mail, it sends out just fine. But nothing in the normal, plain Inbox!

I have created it several times. Once I even tried to force it to allow me to "manually" create the inbox without it sniffing that it was a yahoo account and applying the official yahoo settings it knows. I did that by initially putting extra false characters in the yahoo domain name, and then setting up all the IMAP and SMTP stuff manually, and then changing the initial domain name entry to remove the wrong characters. But the results were exactly the same -- empty inbox.

AND, when I have yahoo set up in the normal way (but not working right...) and I go to the Connection Doctor... it scans through and gives the green-light indicator saying that IMAP and SMTP are working fine!

Any info, tips, or similar issues with Yahoo Mail and the mail.app in Yosemite?

THANKS -- Eric

OSX 10.10 Internet Sharing Password Not Correct

My Mac lost ethernet connection yesterday briefly whilst Internet Sharing was running.

I rebooted, by Internet Sharing wasn't accepting Connections at all.

I deleted the relevant files in:/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/

Rebooted, this cleared out all the settings for Internet Sharing etc

As default, there is no Internet Sharing security set

I turn it back on, no security, but any wifi client that sees it with no security (iPhone doesn't show padlock) but the client asks for a password.

The way it asks for it on the iPhone differs to how it would if it knows the WIFI is password protected.

can someone tell me how to resolve this, there is no password set on the mac internet sharing but clients ask for it? Cheers,

Lee

Troubles in installing the 2014 NTP security fix on 10.6.8 Snow Leopard

Hi! Dunno what happened but I nearly shit myself last night!

Read about the CVE-2014-9295 vulnerability and soon started looking for solutions for Snow Leopard 10.6.8. Found this thread Disabling NTP on OS X Lion or older and then read also this other thread http://ift.tt/1xeVluj

Since I had no backup of my system yet, I usually test applications and fixes first by booting from my old HDD in which SL is nearly configured like the one on the internal SSD. In both the HDD and the SSD have Mac OS X 10.6.8 (10K549) installed as well as XCode Version 3.2.6 (1761). The two system are nearly specular. The only differences are:

1) a different AV software (Sophos Aanti-Virus v.9.2.2 on my HDD and Kaspersky Internet Security for Mac v.14.0.1.46e on my SSD); 2) some Mac OS X IPFW rules active on system boot on my SSD, configured via WaterProof GUI utility (basically are ready ruleset, so nothing written by me).

That said, on my HDD I first launched this two command:

sudo cp /usr/sbin/ntpd /usr/sbin/ntpd.bak

sudo mv /usr/sbin/ntpd /usr/sbin/ntpd.old

then I followed the "macissues" instructions and everything went SMOOTHLY.

Later I realized that maybe I should have backed up more, so when I moved to do it again but on my SSD, I first launched these commands:

sudo launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.ntp.ntpd.plist

sudo mv /usr/sbin/ntpd /usr/sbin/ntpd.old

sudo mv /usr/sbin/ntpdate /usr/sbin/ntpdate.old

sudo mv /usr/sbin/ntpdc /usr/sbin/ntpdc.old

sudo mv /usr/sbin/ntptrace /usr/sbin/ntptrace.old

sudo mv /usr/bin/sntp /usr/bin/sntp.old

sudo mv /usr/bin/ntp-keygen /usr/bin/ntp-keygen.old

sudo mv /usr/bin/ntpq /usr/bin/ntpq.old

then carried on always following the same "macissues" instructions.

Well… after a 6-HOUR NIGHTMARE (SIX HOURS!!!) and after had found a kinda solution through my smartphone… (sorry but I'm a noob (dummy) in Apple OS X command line) I managed to kill the running process with ctrl+C, renamed all the the *old-files by removing .old and reload ntpd.

Please find the log of what happened…

Any idea? What went wrong on the second time? Thanks. Mo

Microsoft Paint for Mac

Are there any Mac apps that are very similar to Microsoft Paint besides Paintbrush and Paint.net? I've tried those apps but found a lot of quirkiness and am looking for something for polished and user friendly. I'm looking for something that is very simple. For example, without photo editing functions like special effects, and without advanced illustration functions like multiple paint brushes. Just for making simple sketches and diagrams.

How to deal with whitespaces in OS X along filepaths when certain UNIX programs dislike it

I am trying to include a command in a TeX file to a bibliography file that I am storing centrally.

However, when including the filepath, like

/Foldername with whitespace/ANOTHER folder name with whitespace/nowsinfldrname/bibo.bib

my Unix-based typesetting system complains. Is there a way to rectify that other than renaming my folders?

OS X Webdav connection issues

We use webdav mounted on local machines using Rumpus file server app.

Thunderbird (Ver 3.1.20) image attachments are directly saved or opened using Preview (Version 3.0.9).

On some machines "Save" or "Save As" to mounted webdav volume works fine. On other machines at different locations either Thunderbird or Preview just come up with "Not Responding" under Activity Monitor and spin their wheels till forced quit.

Local machines are all ageing PPC's running Tiger and app versions are the same so cannot work out where the issue might be.

Any suggestions as to where to investigate would be much appreciated.

Rumpus is running on Mac Mini (Lion). Also, Littlesnitch is enabled but ports open and some machines connect fine and so do the ones with issues when just dragging and dropping - just through Preview and Thunderbird that we have the issue.

Thanks

Michael

How make Mac OS mail Connection Doctor forget older accounts

I have created a number of "internet" accounts for mail in Mac OS, but for various reasons they didn't work, and I deleted them from the listings in the preferences, and of course they therefore don't appear in the Mac OS Mail app either. In fact, there are now zero accounts registered with mail abilities and zero appearing in my Mail app.

BUT, if I go to Mail, and choose Connection Doctor, it still scans those old email accounts to see if they can connect or not!

So it is clearly "retaining" those old accounts... and their credentials!! (because they are actually giving green lights for successful connection!) ...

How do I get it to forget those old accounts? Cleanse that oddly cached account info?

Thanks!

Replace iSight camera on MacBook Air late 2010 (A1369)

My MacBook got a small water damage some time ago. Luckily everything still works without any problems except the iSight camera, which is no longer detected. I reinstalled Mac OS X a couple of times since, so I'm sure it's not a software issue. Since a replacement looks pretty cheap and I have all the tools to open up my MacBook, I was wondering, if there are any guides on how to replace the camera. I googled a lot and also checked on Youtube, but could not find anything suitable. How hard would such a replacement be? Can I make sure it's the camera and not some other hardware issue before I try to replace it? On the other hand how much would it cost to have the camera replaced by Apple?

Suddently Apple Wired Keyboard not working

suddently my wired Apple Keyboard isn't working anymore. My MacBook don't recognize the external keyboard, the keyboard is only two weeks old ...

What can i do? It is broken or only a software-side problem?!

Thanks in advance.

Is iPhone 5C suitable for development?

I would like to buy a second-hand iPhone 5C and use it for testing purposes. Aside from hardware specs, are there any limitations specific to 5C that I should be aware of? Also, given that I want to buy it second-hand, what should I be looking for to ensure the phone can be used for development?

No space of iphone, no downloads been made

I'm kinda stuck, because on my iphone 5 16gb with ios 8, all free space gone. According to usage manager i should have around 1gb. Few days ago i've deleted couple music album, and freed about 300mb, but today i see that abound 5mb left. I didn't do any downloads updates or anything else. Just phone calls. I've also checked if there was update file downloaded, but there were none. Any ideas how can i check where my space gone?
