Dwell clicking software that supports right-dragging and allows to define shortcuts

I am looking for a dwell clicking software that supports as many following features as possible:

• left and right-dragging


• double/triple click


• a shortcut can be defined to change the mouse mode


• the mouse mode window is always on Top


• customizable dwell clicking time (i.e. the time one needs to hold the mouse steady in an area before the mouse click is sent)

A few definitions:

• Right-dragging = you click the right mouse button while pointing at something, hold down the right mouse button and drag the object somewhere


• Dwell clicking = Instead of having to press a mouse button or a switch the user needs to simply hold the mouse steady in an area for a predefined amount of time. This action issues the computer with a 'virtual' click and provides the same function as if someone had pressed the mouse button.

Macbook Lion Recovery Disk Utilities cannot detect newly installed SSD

I just installed the SSD and I cannot detect the SSD in Disk Utilities of the recovery disk. Even trying to restore from time machine backup it cannot find any disk it can restore to. I am restoring Mac OS X Lion backup and using the Lion bootable USB stick.

Transparent proxy authentication with pf

I'm under a corporate, squid proxy.

It is problematic to develop under this proxy since I have to setup the proxy details for every thing I use (for example, setting npm, or terminal http_proxy)

I am looking for a way to route all my traffic to squid proxy, so that I do not have to edit all my applications' proxy settings.

I found a short tutorial to do transparent proxying with squid here using pf. However, I am not familiar with pf.

This is the pf configuration that the tutorial says is needed:

However, the proxy I'm under has authentication required (username and password).

How do I setup my pf so that I can tunnel all my applications to use this proxy? If the config above is ideal, then how do I change it to accept my authentication details?

Would and SSD or RAM be the better upgrade in this situation?

I feel I'm making this post more for validation than anything, but I want to get some of your opinions as well.

My friend contacted me the other day asking how she could make her MacBook Pro run a bit faster. I had her send me a screenshot of what she has and it's a Mid 2009 MBP with 4GB of RAM. I had her send me a screenshot of activity monitor and it shows she was using 8 MB of swap. In my mind, she is going to see a better performance boost from upgrading to an SSD instead of RAM, here's why:

Her swap memory is already pretty low. Now, she is running 10.10.1, which is more RAM hungry, but that's the beauty of an SSD. Even if she does need more RAM, her swap will be much more efficient because it's on an SSD. And, when it's not needing it, any read/writes will be exponentially faster than the current 5400 rpm 320 GB drive she has now.

She talked to her brother who said to her "upgrading to an SSD you won't see a difference unless you game." Which I then let her know is complete and utter.... you know. So I decided she could upgrade to 6GB of RAM for cheap and then get an SSD all for under $250. She told me that would be her ceiling.

Tonight she told me that because of what her brother said and another friend of hers said she is going to get a 1TB spinning drive and 8GB of RAM but she still wants me to help install it. I think a 1TB is honestly a terrible idea since that will most likely make read/writes slower, but that's just me.

So tell me... do you think my logic is faulty? Is more RAM really going to be a huge upgrade for her? Or am I making sense by thinking "if swap is needed, it's better it be from an SSD than get more ram that you aren't using in the first place?"

Macbook White Mid 2007 will not boot even on Mac OS X Lion bootup USB

I see the gray screen and nothing shows up for minutes on the screen not even the blinking question marked folder. Does anyone know how to get it to boot as I have a new hard drive I installed and want to install Mac OS X Lion via the time machine backup. The old hard drive works fine but the boot up using the USB stick does not work.

What is my Mac username?

My username in the Mac login screen ("My Name", there is a space) doesn't match the one in Finder and terminal ("anothername"). Which one is my real username? The reason I'm asking is that I want to share media files over my home network, and when I was trying to access the media from another computer, it ask me for username and password. I don't know which one is my username I only know the password. I tried both and neither worked. Always says wrong username or password. I'm sure I know my password because that's how I login to my Mac. Could there be a third username? I'm completely lost.

Spotlight doesn't show Finder

I typed "Finder" in Spotlight. Finder isn't shown. Why? I use Mac OS X 10.9 (Mavericks)

Two versions of the same app in Launchpad

How can I have two versions of the same app listed in Launchpad?

For example, I have both Processing 1.5 and Processing 2.0 installed. Only one shows up at once - is it possible to have both?

Is anyone successful with Apple TV in enterprise network?

In our school environment, we have a WPA2 network with simple username/password for joining all our Apple TVs. Eventually we replaced this with hard-wired Ethernet connections. Faculty and staff join another WiFi network which students may not access. This network allows staff to see Apple TV in AirPlay while students may not.

The problem is we have incredible inconsistency with some users experiencing periodic disconnects while others are fairly consistent. We checked with a number of other schools experiencing the same problem, and we also checked with two outside networking companies to evaluate our network health. Health is good. Pinging many different end points, we see packet loss is unusual. We have come to the conclusion that the problem is in the Apple TV device, not our network.

I read that using Apple TVs in this way is in a sense creating a use case for the device as they were never intended to be used in such an environment. I want to find success stories where relatively large schools (1200+ staff and students) have deployed Apple TVs and used them without the problems we are having.

The default search engine of Safari doesn't want to change

This morning my computer decided that all my web-browsers (Safari, Firefox and Chrome) would use Yahoo as default search engine and as their homepage.

I could easily solve this issue for Firefox but not for Safari. In the Safari Preferences, I changed the hompage in the "general" tab and it worked fine. However, when I changed the search engine back to Google, there is no consequence. I tried to close and reopen safari and I restarted my computer but without success.

Avoiding maximized windows to overlap with the uBar's taskbar

Is it possible to avoid maximized windows to overlap with the uBar's taskbar? By default when I maximize a window it will overlap with uBar's taskbar (but not with the Dock).

How do I set up my 12 year olds iPhone 4S using her iCloud family account?

I just got a new iPhone 5 and transferred my old number contacts etc. They wiped my 4S and set it up with a new number. I created my 12 year old a new iCloud account under the family setting. When I enter that into the phone under Sign in with your Apple ID when setting up the phone it says: Can't Create Apple ID. But if I go into my Apple ID and iCloud. Both my 10 and 12 year old are getting iPads for Christmas so this will be a problem again if we can't get them signed in under their iCloud accounts.

iPhone 5c, phone numbers

I just bought an iPhone 5c. I can't figure out how to make a call. My contact list was uploaded to the new phone but there are no phone numbers listed. e-mail addresses are listed for some of my contacts.

Do I need to go to a different screen or do I need to manually add phone numbers?

iPhone stopped streaming

Photo streaming to and from my iPhone 4 (iOS 7) and iPad Mini (iOS 8) was working well, but suddenly photos taken on the iPhone will not stream. Furthermore, in iCloud the phone is no longer listed under "my devices" and the only photos in the iCloud album are those from the iPad. Yet photos taken on the iPad DO stream to the iPhone, so something is connecting the two devices. I have already checked the relevant settings on the phone, and all iCloud functions are turned on (as they have always been). The only change I know of is that the iPad is now using the latest OS 8, but the new OS does not support iPhone 4. Why is the phone still able to receive streamed photos but not showing up on iCloud, and how can I get photos streaming again from the phone?

swap mapping of left and right shift keys

I have an odd, highly specific problem when using my third-party USB keyboard with my MacBook Pro: option + left-shift + right-arrow (which as Mac programmers will know means "highlight the word to the right of the cursor") does not work. The reasons behind this are unclear, but I know it's not to do with user-level software preferences, nor directly to with a low-level hardware problem (see my original question on superuser for the full troubleshooting logic).

It does work if I use option + RIGHT-shift + right-arrow but this is a very clumsy hand position for moving quickly around my documents. So I'd like to try swapping the Mac's interpretation of the left and right shift keys. Is this possible, and if so, how?

iPhone 6 won't store emails

My iPhone 6 running of iOS 8.1.2 won't store all my flagged emails, 5 and only seems to remember 3 out of the 5. Until you actually search for the emails it can't be found by looking through inbox or updating. Restarting the phone does not do anything. This is also the case for regular emails where older emails seem to vanish until you search for them too. They are not stored in trash, junk or in archive. On settings I have checked that emails will not be deleted without asking first. Please help. Many thanks.

Mail Merge Issues On Mac

Using OSx 10.9.5 on MacBook Pro.

I'm using MS Word and Excel (Office for Mac 2011) to do a mail merge on labels. I've done this many times in the past, but this time, it's not working. I go through all the steps, and my result is a document made up of addresses I didn't choose. I've checked and rechecked to make sure I'm choosing the correct excel doc, and I've opened it and saved it under a different name. Doesn't matter; my labels are still addresses from a doc I didn't select. I've never run into this before and it's driving me crazy. There must be something in Word that's remembering labels I did in the past. How do I clear this "memory"?

iOS: How do I download Youtube videos?

I have just tried 28 different apps that claim to download youtube videos for offline viewing/listening, including Instapaper and Pocket.

None of them do it; they all expect there to be an internet connection.

Is there just .... 1 app .... that works?

USB external drive on MacBook Air

I don't seem to be able to use multiple UDB external HDD on my MacBook Air. When I plug in a second HDD, the first one is ejected. Is there a limitation or is there a function that I have not selected? Thanks

Weird behaviour, During the night, Mac wakes every hour on it's own and does this - log attached, any idea why?

Why does iOS need to refresh when I come back to a page?

Is there anyway to not have an app (browser, gmail, Facebook) refresh when coming back to it? I don't understand where this behavior comes from or why it would be desirable.

OS X Yosemite installation error: File system verify or repair failed

My Mac has been running fine until I decided to upgrade to OS X 10.10, Yosemite. When it is installing I get the message:

File system verify or repair failed.

I clicked the restart option to boot into my internal HD but tells me its unavailable. I then rebooted, held Command+R to enter disk utility in order to repair the disk, but it tells me it failed and should backup and restore the HD.

I then tried to create an image on my external drive but this also fails with the message:

Unable to create Macintosh HD.dmg. (Input/output error)

I am stuck in this vicious cycle of restarting and the installation failing. I cannot escape the installation process.

Is there a way to access my files and copy them onto my external HD, then erase and restore the internal HD?

Yosemite freeze at boot - no safe boot + I/O error

yesterday everything was fine but today my macbook freeze/stuck during the boot. I've done this: - check + repair permission (nothing changed)

- check + repair disk (nothing changed)

- tried safemode (doesn't boot)

- resetting pram with cmd+opt+p+r (nothing changed)

- boot in verbose mode, shift+cmd+v and after "waiting for DSMOS" appear disk0s2: I/O error. (now 6 times, but it will continue I think )

- tried to use fsck in single user mode and it says that the disk is ok - tried to reinstall the OS (nothing changed )

Any idea how to solve it?

How can I link data from Numbers to a Pages document?

I'd like to have all my client invoices in a Numbers document, including invoice number, service period, daily rates,... and generate a invoice from that with a template I have created in Pages. How can I accomplish this?

Finder search does not work properly for Tibetan unicode after yosemite upgrade

I have seen Finder is giving some issues. For me, it is working fine as long as I use Latin characters. Since I work with Tibetan, I was used to search for text. When updating to Yosemite, it stopped working properly. I have checked with various friends and all have the same issue: Yosemite indexing has changed from Maverick.

So here is a description: letters of the alphabet are still indexed (like ཀ་ཁ་ག་ང་), but when they are combined (like རྒ་), spotlight is the blue, giving no answer. Again, this used to work very well before.

I have tried reindexing, following Apple's suggestion (http://ift.tt/1AqobI6), but no success. It seems to be related to the indexing method itself.

Any advice? This is a big issue as we are used to search with Finder—a feature that is normally powerful in OSX...

Apple Remote Desktop Admin blocked by OS X Yosemite Firewall

I'm experiencing an issue where the Firewall in OS X Yosemite is repeatedly preventing me from launching ARD Admin.

Symptoms: Launch ARD and no window appears. I am forced to force-quit the application.

Troubleshooting: I open up System Preferences > Security > Firewall and ensured that both ARDAgent and ScreenSharing are in the allowed list. They are. Added Remote Desktop.app for good measure, though this shouldn't be necessary.

Upon reboot and login of the computer, I am prompted to allow ARDAgent.app through the firewall. I accept. ARD Admin then launches correctly for the duration of my session. In this environment I am forced to log out at the end of the day (there's a 60 minute inactivity timer enforced to this effect as well). Upon my next login I cannot launch ARD Admin again (its still listed in the firewall as allowed) and I am forced to repeat this troubleshooting process every day.

Inconsistencies: 1) Sometimes the reboot and login triggers the prompt to allow ARDAgent. Sometimes it does not. I cannot consistently reproduce the behavior that allows me to use ARD Admin. I just keep rebooting until it eventually prompts me and lets me in. 2) Today I got the prompt to allow ARDAgent and I STILL couldn't launch ARD Admin after accepting the prompt.

Environment: iMac15,1 (Retina 5K Late 2014) running OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 OSX Firewall Enabled ARDAgent 3.8 Remote Desktop (ARD Admin) 3.7.2

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

FileVault Stuck on Pause

I just got a new 13" rMBP with Yosemite installed. I chose to enable FileVault when I set the machine up.

Now, several days later, an app called "Reverting from FileVault" shows on the list of apps consuming a lot of energy.

I check FileVault in System Preferences, and it says "Encryption paused," followed by "Connect power adapter to resume encryption." Connecting the power adapter makes no difference, even though the machine recognizes that it's charging.

I've found several threads describing this problem, but no solutions.

I've tried clearing the PRAM, going into Recovery Mode, repairing the disk and repairing permissions. Nothing has worked. I can't stop FileVault from Terminal, and when I try to enable it, it says it's already on:

$ fdesetup status
FileVault is On.
Encryption in progress: Pending

$ sudo fdesetup disable
Password:
Enter a password for '/':
...

$ fdesetup status
FileVault is On.
Encryption in progress: Pending

$ sudo fdesetup enable
Error: FileVault is already On.

Any suggestions? The machine is brand new, so there isn't a HUGE amount of data on it (nor are there any Time Machine backups), but I'd like to avoid having to wipe the drive.

If there's nothing I can do, does Apple have a history of issuing hotfixes for issues like this?

Talked to Apple Support and they told me that it is a known issue and will be addressed in future updates or patch. Only thing you can do is wait for fix or reinstall OS X.

Apple charging system

Would it be possible to create a device that can potentially suck the charge from one iPhone 5/6 (lighting connector) and charge another with it? Does the iPhone give out any voltage from the lighting connector or can it just take in a charge? I know there is a device out there for the 32 pin connector, iPhone 4/3 etc, but would it be possible with the new lighting connector?

yosemite uppdates and prompts

i am very new to using mac book pro, and was recommmend finding on the new yosemite system that there are far too many prompts and synched uppdates etc.. does anyone know how i can do a general disabling of them. for example, i would like to remove the prompt like auto refill......when i am filing in forms for payments

and i get email and fbk uppdates when i am in other programmes....

OSX Contacts "remove duplicates" log of changes done?

I've seen plenty of tips on how to remove duplicate contacts using OSX's Contacts application.

I've done the process and I'd like to know if there is any record/log of what changes the app has done - I'd like to know what contact it has changed. I have almost 3000 contacts, and it claims it's changed/merged around 300, but looking for them manually is not really an option.

I've googled the question with a few variants but haven't found any answers. Looking at the Console app didn't show any clear log entries either...

Ethernet cannot see RTA1025W modem (wi-fi can)

At home I have a Dynalink RTA1025W DSL modem.

• MBP can obtain IP via WiFI


• MBP cannot see modem or get IP via ethernet.


• Ubuntu/Win7/Win8 can get IP via the same ethernet cable & modem.

At work:

• MBP can see the LAN and obtain IP via ethernet using the same USB ethernet adapter.

When I'm at home and I attempt to get an IP address via ethernet, I open the network preferences | USB Ethernet | Advanced | Renew DHCP Lease. It thinks about it for a second, then puts focus in the box titled "DHCP Client ID", as if it expects me to type something.

The status remains "cable unplugged".

If I try to ping my router's address (192.168.1.1) no route is found.

I have tried many different cables, all otherwise known to be working.

Occasionally, the network config will decided to allocate a self-assigned IP, which is not helpful. It does this at random times without any prompting from me.

I have tried the following without success:

• deleting and re-adding the USB Ethernet interface


• creating a new network "location"


• removing the file com.apple.plf.plist


• assigning manually an IP from the valid range

Any other advice?

Is it possible to auto-archive mails, after sent - or adding a seperate button saying "Send and archive"? I use the Inbox Zero approach, so now I need to manually archive conversations that has ended.

Why can't my MacBook Air (Late 2010) stay cool?

I have a MacBook Air bought in early 2011. Lately it just can't seem to stay cool. With normal load, the CPU hovers between 80ºC and 100ºC, and if I use iStat / Fan Control to turn the fans up to full, completely idle my laptop will still only cool to 75ºC.

I've opened it up and taken a look, and there isn't an obscene amount of dust in there, though I did give it a good vacuum and dusted it with compressed air. In particular, the part of the heat sink where the fan blows through seemed a little clogged, but I took to it with a vacuum cleaner. This hasn't had any noticeable improvement.

I'm wondering if I need to look into the heatsink, since the fan seems to run correctly (there was some dust caked onto the fan blades, but nothing that stopped it spinning).

How to manage App Store carrier?

I have uploaded my first two app to App Store. These are utility apps to get an idea how submit, approval, iAds, In-App purchase works. Now I how some more better ideas. 200 people has already downloaded the two apps yet. I haven't earned an money yet. I am curious what perspective I have. Do you know any stuff, how I should manage my 'carrier' as App Store developer, to get a reasonable income?

I could join other team, work on others idea. What is your standpoint? Do you work in others team, do you work alone? When is it worth to work by yourself?

Change video Release Date in iTunes

Until now, I could change Release Date on videos without problem. But, from now, If the video hasn't Release Date field, when I tried to edit, it appears 05/06/05 on that field and I could not edit it.

Is this a general issue?

Any way to update that field?

Install flask with pip

Try

But I got exception

ImportError: No module named flask

So far so good. But when I tried to install a package with pip3 for Python 3, I got error message

How to use site-packages without the PYTHONPATH trick to make both pip and pip3 usable and both Python 2 and Python 3 able to import site-packages?

MacBook Pro Mid 2012 briefly displays static after waking from sleep

On my MacBook, whenever I wake it up from hibernation, it briefly displays static for about 2 seconds before showing the login screen, very like an untuned analog TV. The problem is purely cosmetic, because after that it functions perfectly. It doesn't seem to happen if I simply sleep it though.

The machine has gone through two OS upgrades, I believe starting from Mountain Lion, which I don't think had the problem, so it may have started with Mavericks, and continues with Yosemite. I currently have everything updated to the latest version.

It's not really a huge issue, but I'd like to fix it if possible. Any ideas?
