iRunes: Moving iTunes Files (Self Managed)

I'm trying to move all my music to another drive and I don't let iTunes organize my music for me. I moved the "iTunes" folder to my external and I also moved my Music folder which is also outside of my external but the issue I'm having is when I export the XML file.

In Itunes I went to File > Library > Export Library which exports an XML file.

In the XML file I see a ton of paths that begin with:

file:///Volumes/Data/Music/

So my plan is to change all the files from beginning with that to:

file:///External/Music/

That way iTunes can find my files. I haven't done the last step yet because when I option+click the itunes file and it opens up to the message with an option to "Choose Library..." when I click this option it won't let me select the XML file I just exported but an ITL file in the

iTunes/Previous iTunes Libraries/

folder where there are some files with the extension ITL and some that dont have an extension at all.

I need help. so the photos from my iPhone 5S, when connected to the iMac, will automatically sync and the photos from my iPhone 5S can be seen on the iPhoto on iMac. how do I stop this ? I don't want anyone to check my photos when using yhe iMac. I want privacy. I want to set a lock on the iPhone to prevent the pictures from being synced and connected to iPhoto.

Print to Yosemite printer from a Panther machine

A couple I know have two computers I'm supporting - one is a iMac which I recently upgraded from Snow Leopard (10.6) to Yosemite (10.10). The printer is attached to this machine. The other computer, unfortunately, is a 450MHz Power Mac G4 (AGP graphics) running the last version of Panther (10.3.9). Surprisingly, the 14-year-old computer still works and is actively being used (primarily for AppleWorks documents, which is another "ugh").

Before the iMac was upgraded, I had done something to it which let the Power Mac see the shared printer. I suspect it had to do with CUPS, but I could be wrong. Ever since the upgrade to Yosemite, the Power Mac has been unable to print, and I can't seem to recreate the old setup.

All that is a very long setup to ask: How do I share a printer from a Mac running Yosemite to one running Panther, so that the latter can print?

Encrypted External Drive Using Apple's Password Generator and Forgot the Password: Can It Be Salvaged?

I have a partition on an external HD with some Time Machine backups. I decided to encrypt the partition using Finder and used Apple's built-in password generator to create the passphrase.

Unfortunately, after copying the password for saving in my password manager and after having already accepted the generated password to start the encryption process, I accidentally copied something else! With no clipboard history tool installed, I lost the password.

My question is the following: Is there any way I can salvage the password or partition contents?

Currently, I have access to the contents of the drive. I'm copying/pasting them to another partition, but I have reason to believe that it won't work since it's a Time Machine backup and copying/pasting those is problematic. I can't access the volume through Disk Utility for a restore since it's in the middle of the encryption process.

Is the generated password automatically stored in the Keychain? Is there any way I can cancel the encryption process or decrypt the volume since I have access to its contents?

Which of iOS apps that allow customizing font sizes:

• either through support of DynamicType / LargerText system settings (and BoldText that can be helpful to improve readability)


• or have their own settings for font size--and how broad is the size range available?

One of the goals for such a list is to help understanding how font sizes can change when switching between devices with different DPI and resolution--given current variety: iPad Mini/Air, iPhone 6/6+, earlier iPhones.

I need help on how i can change my Game Center email to the email i have on my new device so i can transfer my clash of clans to my new device. I've tried going to Game Center on my old device i click on my enail and it sad view account once i view it it doesnt have an option to switch the email to the new email i have made on my new device. Adding POP3/SMTP to iPod 8.1

My daughter was using my old iPod Version 6.1.3/Model MC54LL/A, and Santa just brought her her own iPod Version 8.1/ModelPD717LL/A.

I had her email going to my old iPod. It is going through my own server which is a POP3 server type with POP3 incoming on port 110 and SMTP outgoing on port 25 or port 2525 (with SMTP-AUTH outgoing server authentication).

I added the email account settings to the new iPod, but it shows up as an IMAP account.

How do I change the settings to old school POP instead of IMAP?

video playback stops while sharing the screen to apple-tv

I just recently faced this problem, while I have high quality broadband bandwidth and each devices (laptop, apple-tv ,etc) can stream 1080 flawlessly, but the moment I hit the apple tv button, the online streaming (fb or youtube) stops playing back. If I cancel sharing the screen with apple-tv it resumes playing back!!

p.S: I have this problem only with online streaming, offline video playback is fine on apple-tv. Bandwidth test with apple-tv is passed without any problem.

How to install Windows 8 on an early 2006 MacBook?

I have recently obtained a MacBook 1,1 from my older sister and it happens to be quite old. I have attempted to revive it with boot camp but my windows installation is stored on a USB drive instead of a DVD, and Boot Camp refuses to use it. I have OS X 10.5 Leopard installed. Also, I tried to burn a Windows xp disk, but Boot Camp wouldn't accept that either. Any help would be appreciated.

Unable to play a complete track in iPod nano

I have around 140 tracks in iPod nano and recently synched a new track on it.

The problem is that the track is not playing completely . It skips the track after first few seconds.

The song is not corrupt as i tried playing in the system and it plays completely without any glitch or error. What could be the problem for the iPod skipping the track after few seconds.

How can i avoid problems like this in the future.

For 10.6.8 would it work to open the 10.8 NTP update.dmg with pacifist and put in the new versions of the following 6 files?:

/usr/sbin/ntpdate  
/usr/sbin/ntpd

I am not sure about including the ntptrace file that was in the 10.8 sbin directory. What does it do? Also what would the appropriate chown command be to get these files properly recognized?

Mac recovery problem

So I was running Yosemite and I wanted to try to install the windows 10 tech preview. I backed up all of my files and downloaded windows tech preview. I tested it in a virtual machine and it worked just fine. I then used boot camp to make a bootable flash drive and partition. I then tried to install windows. I got to the select a partition screen and had it format the boot camp partition. After a minute it said it could install to the partition because it wasn't formatted correctly. After this I shutdown I wanted to bootinto my Mac partition to get rid of the windows side. When it rebooted neither side showed up to boot into. Next I tried an Internet recovery and time machine restore but neither can find my had drive. In disk utility it appears to show up but it is called media, has 0 bytes of memory, and won't let me do anything. I was wondering if you had any idea of what to do next

Game center and clash of clan

I have an iPhone and my clash of clans game was sync with game center. I received an ipad for Christmas. I installed and copied everything to my iPad. When I opened my COC my game was not there. I dumbly started a new one thinking one I got the menu to show up I could link it from there. However now the new game is signed into game center and keeps asking my on my iPhone if I want to link it to the new low level game. Can I some how get a new game to delete and connect the old game to my new ipad?

Itunes music problem

I'm currently attempting to add a new album to my phone from Itunes and some of them show up as purchased but not downloaded so it won't allow me to add them to my phone or listen to the full version, what do i do?

Cant allow app to control computer anymore

I'm developing app now, and when I debug it - I open debug folder and drag app into Preferences->Privacy->Accessibility->List. When I want to show demo, I drag this app to applications folder and remove old app from accessibility and add new one from applications.

Today I can't drag nor add by + this app.

can utilising the cpu fully (400% for dual-core hyper-threading cpu) damage mbp

I have recently bought a rMBP with i7 4578U intel 4th generation cpu. iStat usually shows cpu temperature readings of ~50 degrees which is normal.

Today, because of a buggy library code, my cpu had to run at 400% for 10mins or so before I have realised it was a bug causing this. The fan was pretty loud and iStat showed 99 degrees. However, as soon as I've terminated the process hogging the cpu, it went down to 80s in a second which means iStat readings might be inaccurate..

So, my question is, might this have damaged my computer somehow?

Can you activate your iPhone 5/5s/5c with iOS 8.1 with any nano SIM card?

I just got a new iPhone 5/5s/5c and it comes with a fresh install, or factory reset, of iOS 8.1.

I didn't get a SIM card with the phone, and it will not let me activate/use it without one.

I am concerned about the finicky behavior, and even the technical aspects of this.

Do I just simply buy any nano SIM and pop it in and it should be okay? Or is there a specific one I need to buy?

I do not have service or Apple ID but I can make one. I do not wish to pay for service (such as calling/texting) since I only want the device for gaming and other stuff (Skype and other VoIP) to communicate, such as Wi-Fi for internet, etc. Can this be done?

Can anyone clarify this for me?

MacBook pro - External screen flickering after reconect

I have MacBook Pro late 2011. When I am at home, I use it with my external monitor, when I connect external monitor for the first time (after reboot), everything works fine, but when I disconnect the external monitor and reconnect it again, the external monitor starts flickering and external monitor screen starts turning on and off. The MacBook's default screen works fine. If I reboot macbook and then connect monitor, everything works fine until I disconnect and reconnect it again, then it starts doing that weird things again.

I don't want to reboot my MacBook after every time I disconnect external monitor... I am thinking, maybe I am not disconnecting the external display right. I just disconnect the cable. Should i be doing it another way?

Does someone have some experiences with that? Could someone suggest me any solution?

Playing Hoopla movie's on iPad 4

On my husband's iPad 2, we are able to play Hoopla movies on our Apple TV (using AirPlay and mirroring) with no problems, however if we try to use my iPad 4, all movies are fuzzy. We have compare all settings on both devices and they are the same. If I play a Hoopla movie on my iPad4 screen only, it works just fine, very clear, not fuzzy at all.

I had to install Google Chrome on my Mac for some reason, but do not intend to use it as my default browser. After logging in with my Google account, the following happened:

1. All my saved passwords on Chrome now appear in Safari saved passwords. I have no idea how this has been done.


2. Each time I visit a website in Safari, there's a popup saying "Safari wants to use your confidential information stored in "website" in your keychain".

For the 1st problem, ok it's fine, although it should have asked for my approval before importing the passwords. The 2nd is really annoying. Please suggest me a way to get rid of those popups (without disabling Keychain of course).

I cannot open a Partition of a Harddrive when Shared

I've partitioned 0.75TB of external harddrive space for photo backups, which is shared on the network with a PC. However when shared I am unable to open the folder in Finder, as it will hang for 2 seconds and crash - even when nobody is accessing it.

I've tried using a different filesystem, but none seem to avail. I seem to be able to access it on the PC just fine.

The full external harddisk is 2 TB, split into:

• 1TB - Extra Storage


• 0.75TB - "Photos"


• 0.25TB - Time Machine Backup (I tried accessing the folder while and after the backup was running)

Any help would be appreciated.

(Edit: I should note that I can access the folder via other methods (the "select a folder" screen and Terminal, for example))

Cannot enable calendars and reminders in iCloud

I am using late 2014 retina macbook pro 15 inch but first when i click the iCloud settings it takes 15 seconds to open it. When I enable the contacts, I can't open the Contacts app it says contacts quit "unexpectedly".When I try to enable Calendars, I get a dialog box asking if I want to merge calendars on my Mac with those on my other devices and I get the spinning icon with the "Setting up..." text and after a few minutes, nothing happens and the checkbox is left unchecked. When I try to enable Reminders, I get a spinning icon to the right saying it is "Setting up..." and then after several minutes it does nothing and the checkbox is left unchecked (no dialog box reporting any problems).

I tried everything, logged out and logged in iCloud several times, tried to add accounts to calendar and reminder separately but nothing works.

Does anyone know the whats going on with the iCloud?

I have an iPad Mini, the screen has broken and is unresponsive. Although the device is still on and getting notifications.

I need to backup the device and download photos, but cannot do this until the device is unlocked using the passcode.

How can I unlock the device without the screen working?

Can I use my 128GB macbook air to temporarily run a 512GB / 1TB back-up?

I was thinking what I would do if my macbook pro with 512gb storage failed, the technical service delays would certainly disrupt my workflow severely

I have a macbook air that I use seldomly, in addition to my main macbook pro (the macbook air is my previous macbook)

Is it possible to:

1. Connect a >512GB external HDD to the macbook air


2. Restore the time machine backup to the macbook air's external hdd


3. Use the macbook air for a while


4. Get another time machine backup from the temporary external hdd setup


5. Restore the time machine backup of (4) to the macbook pro when it arrives from the technical service - therefore restoring the original functionality/setup

The steps (2) and (5) are the issue here, as I haven't done any macos restore's and don't know about the process

When I want to install TeamViewer 10, why can't I select my system disk as the distination?

I borrowed this Magic Mouse and noticed that I can't scroll to the sides (on a fresh page/window) unless I "unlock" it by scrolling up and down, is that the intended behavior?

Focus follows mouse on monitor level

I have an external monitor with my macbook pro. What I want to do is to automatically focus the monitor when I move mouse on it. This way I would not need one extra click when I want to work in different applications opened in different monitors. I'm switching between these monitors quite often and this is annoying.

I know about focus-follows-mouse idea which means moving focus on a particular app when the mouse overs it but I'm asking for a bit different thing. I want to focus the monitor only (this probably means focusing the last active app on this monitor).

How to install MacPorts on user-only account?

On my Mac I use an Admin and an everyday User account (without admin / sudo privileges). Currently I am setting up a new Yosemite system and found that after installing MacPorts (using its installer), I cannot do sudo operations, such as sudo port selfupdate. In the user account it tells me that it does not have sufficient privileges and on the admin account the command port is not found.

So I am wondering what is the correct way to set up MacPorts on OS X? Should I install it rather on the Admin instead of the User account? Or is there some other way to use it from the User account?

Quickly remove badge from app

Is it possible to quickly remove a notification badge from an app in the Dock? I'm looking for a solution faster than opening the app itself and performing whatever task is required to mark the notification as read. I would prefer something scriptable, but GUI scripting is not out of the scope.

My laptop is showing 4-5 wifi networks available in my area. But my iPhone is just showing 1-2 wifi networks. Even when I'm trying to add/search manually, then it is showing error couldn't find network. Anyone have any idea why?

Do I need to "unregister" an OSX virtual machine?

I have an OSX VM (using VMWare fusion 6), and want to delete it.

VMWare's docs say "Apple's updated license agreement allows you to install up to two additional copies of Lion on your Mac which is already running a retail version of Lion"

I remember something in the installation, possibly linking to my Apple ID saying that I could only install 1-2 copies in a VM too.

If I'm going to delete this VM, and want to create other OSX VMs in the future, can I/do I need to "unregister" this VM?

My better village is on my ipad but I would like to transfer it to my new iPhone but I can't because it says that I need to log into my Game Center account that the village is synced with but the problem is that I do not remember the Game Center account AT ALL how do I get it back please help!? Is it okay to run two instances of SuperDuper! at once?

It's quite easy to start two instances of any app from the command line. In this case:

open -n /Applications/SuperDuper\!.app

However, I know that this isn't always a good idea because most applications are not meant to share resources with themselves. I was hoping to back up two different drives with SuperDuper! (a hard drive cloning application) at the same time. I was wondering if this is safe.

Deciding what to buy, Air vs Pro

happy holidays! For the upcoming sales i am planning to buy a MacBook. All the information and specs are out there and I've had a fair share of time looking at them, I was hoping to get some insight on whether to buy an air or pro. If i buy an air im thinking of the $1299 version with the i5 into i7 and 4->8gb ram. If i go pro, I'm thinking $1599 13". Both are in the 1500-1600 range. I was hoping someone could give me some advice. I will be using the device to do homework, watching youtube and occasionally some slightly demanding gaming. On another note, i notice the specs dont include any ssd's but do have a "flash based storage" but the storage compared to SSD is quite limited, if you could explain that to me better, it would be much appreciated.

I have a fresh installed os and I do not no what that lot of Other thinks comes from, how can I reveal it?

Can I create a backup about the same computer but with different op. system?

I have reinstalled my mac and I do not want to loose my backup disk created with Time Machine, but I want to create backup with recent setup. Is it possible to create backup with the same backup disk without loosing data on it?

I do not want to revert to the previous system configuration, I only want to keep untouched that data on the disk.

Bluetooth Manager not present in Boot Camp (Windows 7)

My laptop is pretty old (late 2008 MBP), and I've been trying to get Bluetooth to work under Boot Camp because I just got some wireless headphones. Thing is, Bluetooth doesn't show up under device manager. In fact, I install the following three drivers from the Boot Camp support package (version 4.0.4033), and the following happens:

• AppleBluetoothBroadcomInstaller - success, driver being used


• AppleBluetoothEnablerInstaller - success, driver being used


• AppleBluetoothInstaller - success, but "Not needed (no device for update present)"

The last part is the worrying bit. There's no yellow triangle in Device Manager. There's just plain nothing. No device that does Bluetooth at all. I tried the broadcom drivers ( http://ift.tt/yNJv7E) and it won't detect any device, it just gives up before installing anything. I tried WIDCOMM (http://ift.tt/13GcrXM), and it also gives up, not able to detect anything. I looked at the Broadcom adapter under Network Adapters in Device Manager and enabled Bluetooth Collaboration, still nothing. I've even reset the SMC and tried everything again. Nothing at all.

I would think this was a heavier issue (i.e. the Bluetooth is fried on the machine), but my headphones work like a charm when I switch back to Lion. Does anyone know what could be the issue, and whether I could fix it without reinstalling Windows?

Maybe I'm installing the wrong support package...how can I check my Mac's actual model?

keychaindump OS X 10.8.5 how to run it?

I am using OS X 10.8.5 and fairly new on Apple systems and especially running scripts.

Can anyone describe how to start Keychaindump, does it need to run thru Terminal, or i need a additional program for it? I admin the machine, but need a lost password on a other users account, is Admin enough to run the program or do i have to be Root? I have access to the other user account.

Some passwords on this account i can find as wifi's etc, but i try to access the master keychain pwd, because the login id been changed, and so far there was not yet a reset on the keychain pwd.

The program i downloaded as .zip but i just needs more information how to run the script, sorry this maybe a inconvenient newbie question for most users here, but anyway thx in advance for any information provided to get me running it.
