my android map is showing the wrong address 2 blocks off?

I have never been to this house but my google maps is showing my location is 2 blocks away at another house! I've tried on and off wireless but can't get it to reset. Funny thing is,it did reset directly over my house not my next door neighbors, but the address at still shows 2 blocks away?

Something is wrong with my iPad

My iPad 3 will not turn on. It started freezing up and would reboot and then it would have a black screen with white text. It's currently stuck on the iTunes logo. It will connect to iTunes but it will not update or restore. HELP!!

Advice for troubleshooting hard freezes associated with Safari? (Mid 2012 Retina Macbook Pro, 10.10.2)

I have a Macbook Pro 10,1 (Mid 2012) running 10.10.2. Over the last few months, I have had issues with the system suddenly hanging - mouse won't move, keyboard does nothing, and the clock is stopped. I have to hold down the power button and restart the computer when this happens.

I have been experiencing these freezes ranging from daily to weekly. There is no consistent action that reproduces the freeze on demand. At some point in the last few months, though, I did switch to Safari from Chrome as my primary browser because the battery life seems so much better when using Safari. I've been doing a project over the last week that is dependent on Chrome, and as such haven't been using Safari, and have had no freezes. In retrospect, I think the freezes began happening when I started using Safari regularly.

I'd prefer to not have to choose between using Safari and having a stable system. Is anyone aware of issues like the one I'm experiencing? Any suggestions for further troubleshooting?

Organizing Books for iPad

So I have a lot of book I wish to organize on my iPad, and the new iBooks won't let me do it. I want to either

a. Sort by author last name

b. Use the Collections option. However, I can't add the same book to multiple collections making this far less than ideal.

So the question is, can I do either of these things? If I can't, what functionality is offered to organize my books?

Selected application loses focus

Since upgrading to Yosemite, the current application -- could be anything from Sublime Text to AppCode to Chrome -- will lose focus while I'm typing.

This happens with an external keyboard or an internal keyboard, with the computer lid closed (MBP Retina) and open.

Any advice or event hints?

I live in the USA and I have an iPhone 5S (version A1453). It was bought under contract to Sprint and is currently locked.

My girlfriend lives in the NETHERLANDS and has an iPhone 5S (version A1457). It was bought for full retail price and is unlocked, but currently on the Netherlands' T-Mobile network.

We are thinking about switching phones, because I have more gigabytes of storage and I don't use that extra space.

Questions

Will her European iPhone 5S (version A1457) work in the USA (and on which major carriers)?

Will my American iPhone 5S (version A1453) work in the NETHERLANDS T-Mobile network?

If I uninstall Terraria on my son's ipad 2 will he lose all his work and worlds done to date?

my question is in the title. I have no idea about the tag but took a guess! I haven't done anything yet as I want to know before I uninstall if everything will be lost when I reinstall Terraria.

Front Browser on OSX?

myfonts.com has a create feature where we can choose sample text and selected size while browsing hundreds of fonts. This makes my life much easier when I need to decide which font to use in my design. I like to know if there is a desktop application that does the same thing (either system app or App Store apps that runs on OSX).

iPhone development on the new MacBook

I want to do iPhone development with the MacBook. The MacBook only has one USB-C port, so I may need a USB-C adaptor.

Is the USB-C adaptor necessary or can iPhone development be done wirelessly?

icloud activity folder shows pictures but then is empty when i open it

I have a friend that seems to have pictures that he should no longer have. I can't tell for sure though what is going on. When I go on his windows 8 PC into documents and then into "icloud photos" there are two folders...one called "photo stream" and the other is "Activity". The photo stream folder opens up and shows me all the pictures, HOWEVER the activity folder from the outside shows the little pictures of what would be inside (which are the ones that should be gone) but when I open the folder...nothing comes up. Nothing at all. I try to right-click on the folder to delete the entire thing...again nothing. So basically you can see all the photos from the outside, but when going in it appears "empty". is there a reason for this?

Two bluetooth receivers to one wireless keyboard?

I have two PCs at work and each has its own wireless keyboard/mouse. I want to be able able to type with just one keyboard and that same input be sent to both PCs. Rewording: I want to be able to type on one of the wireless keyboards, and i want that keyboard to send the signal to both wireless receiver that are connected to the PCs. That way whatever im typing, gets recorded on both pcs at the same time. Is it possible? maybe by pairing the two bluetooth receivers to the same keyboard or something like that... i need hardware options not software, the IT admin will not let me install any software.

Is it possible to do a "hard reset" on trackpad driver to solve erratic trackpad behaviour: clicks but no movement

I have a 13" MBP mid-2011 which has some trackpad issues. Every once in a while (can not replicate this reliably) the trackpad "freezes" after waking up. It will click (can select text or click buttons if pointer happens to be on them) but no movement is recognised.

Sometimes it helps to put the computer back to sleep and wake up again, other times PRAM reset helps, but again sometimes there is just no remedy other than using a USB mouse for a while until the device seemingly decides that it's done enough tomfoolery..

I am wondering if I can do some sort of a "hard reset" or "reload" on the modules that govern trackpad function.

Suggestions?

A/V Functionality with Multi-User Screen Sharing

I've been trying to get a setup working on a 2011 Mac Mini Server (2 GHz i7, 16 GB RAM), wherein some audio/video routing and streaming takes place under a secondary user who is logged in through multi-user screen sharing. By 'secondary' I mean that User 1 is logged in at the physical console, while User 2 is only logged in through screen sharing. I've run into two issues:

1) Attempts to play video in VLC by User 2 throw the warning message, "OpenGL acceleration is not supported on your Mac", and the video is indeed pretty choppy and stuttery.

2) Audio is thus far impossible. User 2 doesn't have any volume slider. Changing default output in the Sound prefpane just changes the main default for the system (affects User 1). No sound plays or is seemingly routed at all for User 2, even when I tell VLC to output to Soundflower or WavTap devices, and then try to record from those devices under User 1 or 2. It's like sound doesn't even come out of the source programs for User 2.

So I'm looking for any suggestions on getting either working better for User 2. Are users not logged into the physical console just completely cut off from core A/V functionality? Is there any way to get OS X to be more equitable about this?

How to find Intel SKU for Mac CPUs

Seems like everywhere you can go to purchase a laptop they specify the Intel SKU for each CPU option - except Apple. If you have a Mac, you can apparently find this info using the following command:


sysctl -n machdep.cpu.brand_string

For instance, on my Mac, this returns:


Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3330S CPU @ 2.70GHz

The number I am interested in here is the "i5-3330S", the Intel SKU.

However, if I don't own a Mac, how can I find this info? It doesn't seem to be anywhere on Apple's web site, even in the tech specs. For instance, Apple just announced a new 2015 MacBook, and a refresh to the 13" MacBook Pro lines. Where/how can I find what CPUs are actually in these products?

Update: It appears that Wikipedia now lists the Intel SKUs for the latest (2015) Macs. For instance, from the MacBook Air page it shows the latest Air (sic) model uses an i5-5250U with an optional i7-5650U. However, footnote 55 cites a Apple's own specs page which not only contain no SKUs as far as I can see, but aren't even for the new 12" model! So where is this info coming from?

iPad for learning development? [on hold]

So i am new to programming and I am looking at getting a Apple device, but I am unsure what, I love the iPad though, and I want to do programming when I'm in the front room or on holiday while sunbathing. Is the iPad a good platform for this?

How do I turn on an iPad (first revision) during it is loading. Or how do I turn it on at all?

When I plug it in, the display shows a battery symbol with a little bit of red juice on the left side (seems to be empty). Then the display turns off after a few seconds.

Can't backup broken iPhone 6 without entering pin

I have recently broken the screen on my iPhone 6 and want to back everything up before I take it into apple to be repaired.

My problem is when I go to back the phone up in iTunes, it wants my pincode. I can't put my pincode in as my screen is broken!

The screen seems to be responding to key presses as it vibrates when I touch the screen where I think the numbers are, but this still doesn't work.

Does anyone know a way I can get a backup of my phone despite this issue?

Will updating Mac OS affect my Windows/Bootcamp partition?

On Macbook Air, I have OSX 10.9.4 and it allows me to update to Yosemite, will this affect the Windows 7 partition that I installed using Bootcamp ?

Edit: seems to work ok for one windows/bootcamp partition, but an additional windows partition will cause problems. I will add a detailed answer to my own question.

Pop up on Mac from AVG

I installed AVG antivirus then deleted it using the AVG website. I keep getting popups on my iMac using Yosemite 10.10 stating Problem Report for Loader Agent. The popup persists even though the program has been deleted properly. The path to the file is: Library/Application Support/AVG/*/LoaderAgent.app./Contents/MacOS/. AVG support has not been helpful to delete the popup.

Keep applications full screen when plugging in second monitor

My work environment requires that I constantly plug in my MBA into a second monitor and use it without. I run multiple desktops with applications always extended fullscreen. When I unplug from the external display, it retains the desktops and fullscreen applications, but the when I plug back into the external display, the applications have to all be re-maximized.

My question is how do I keep all of my applications maximized when reconnecting to my external display? I've tried the immersion view, and don't like it due to the menu bar constantly jumping up and down and the inability to have more than one application in the same view. Any solutions would be greatly appreciated!

How do you text people from your number and not from your Apple ID email?

I've recently went to an Apple store and the guy reset all my settings. Lately, whenever I text people with iPhones, they tell me that I don't text from my number anymore, but from my Apple ID email. I tried going into Settings and changing some things, and texting some of my friends to see if it's changed but they keep saying I'm still texting from my email. How do I reverse this or text from my regular number?

iPhoto treats two identical video cameras in totally different ways

I own two Canon Vixia HF G20 video cameras. The two cameras are, as far as I can tell, configured in completely identical ways. And yet for some reason when I connect them to my Mac to import video, completely different things happen:

When I connect one of the cameras, iPhoto launches automatically, the camera appears under "Devices" in the iPhoto sidebar, and I have the option to import video directly into my iPhoto library.

When I connect the other camera, iPhoto does not launch automatically. If I launch it manually, the camera does not appear under "Devices", and there does not seem to be any way to get iPhoto to recognize that the camera is connected, or to import video from it. Instead I have to navigate to the AVCHD file in the Finder, open video clips using Quicktime Player, and then use Quicktime Player to Save the clips to my hard drive. (This method works on the other camera, too, of course.)

Since I am able to save video from both cameras to my HD, this difference in behavior is not mission-critical, but it is annoying and mysterious. I am not sure if the difference has to do with a setting in iPhoto, or on the camera itself, or what. Can anybody explain to me why these two cameras -- same model, same configuration (AFAIK) -- are handled by the OS so differently?

Any alternatives to Quicken with auto download of transactions?

Quicken for Mac continues to suck, so I'm wondering if there are any viable alternatives.

I've tried a few, but none of them are able to automatically download activity from banks ("Direct Connect"). Yes, you can manually download an OFX/QFX from the bank's website, but I want the app to pull down the data without me having to go to a browser.

gnuCash seems to theoretically be able to do it, but it's incredibly complicated, ugly, and I couldn't get it to work.

Automate Fn key switch when opening Excel

So Microsoft released a free preview of Office for Mac, and it is pretty sweet.

One of my biggest problem when using Excel on a mac has always been that the most popular/frequent shortcut (F2 -> edit cell) was not available on macs (there was a default replacement, cmd-T I think, but not half as handy as F2).

Now F2 is here in the preview, great! But one still has to either press the Fn key, or switch the whole Fn key row (link from Apple page). Hence the question:

Is there a way to either:

selectively only switch the F2 key, or

switch the Fn key row automatically when opening Excel?

OS X repeatedly stops syncing contacts and calendar with Gmail

For what feels like forever (but is probably only a year or two), OS X constantly ‘loses’ my Gmail password. This is particularly annoying, because I use two-factor-authentication with my Google account, and have to go generate a new password every time I see this bug:

Even worse, I don't know there's any problem until I actually open the Contacts application (a thing I never do). I'll get text messages on my Mac, and wonder who the hell's messaging me, because it'll show up as a phone-number; meanwhile, I created a new contact for that person months ago on my iPhone, and it turns out Google hasn't synced to my computer in that entire time.

I clear all the Google/Gmail entries out of my keychain, generate a new one-use password with Google, and put it in OS X, every time I see this. It just happens again a couple months later.

Does anybody know what could be causing this?

Siri tell me time without going internet

I only use Siri when i need to know the time. And she can't do it 80 percent of the time.

In a scenario: phone is in my pocket, i am listening music through earpod. And i want to know the time without taking phone out specially in cold. But on the way internet connection sometimes sucks. When she finds the connection, she brings an article about Time magazine.

After tries and talking to myself on the road. She tells me the time. But sometimes i have to take the phone out, again it is cold and i already talked to myself in the crowd.

I use an app last.fm, and since it doesn't run in my dock I don't notice that the process might not be running any more.

New version of Keynote and Pages won't open old versions

When using a newer version of iWork software such as on Yosemite to open older documents and presentations, Pages reports "This document can’t be opened because it’s too old. To open it, save it with Pages ’09 first." and Keynote reports "This presentation can’t be opened because it’s too old. To open it, save it with Keynote ’09 first." How can I open these files without finding and installing an old version of iWork?

Preventing less from quitting when I scroll down

I don’t know if it was a change to less itself or to the Terminal app, but when I upgraded to Yosemite I noticed that I could use the mouse scroll wheel to move around in less. Whenever I use this feature, though, I end up scrolling down too far and exiting less by accident. (I have the -e option in my $LESS environment variable, so less will quit the second time I reach the bottom of the document.)

Is there any way to preserve the -e behavior while scrolling with the keyboard (e.g. by pressing Space, j, or Control-F) but disable it for the mouse wheel and the trackpad? In other words, if I’m at the bottom of the file then pressing Space should quit less, but no amount of scrolling down will quit less.

I bought a new iPhone 6 for personal use. While at the store, we synced with my company phone to get all info. Now I want my personal phone and company phone to be separate and to stop linking and synching. How?

Anyone know of an "Office Timeline" plug in for Powerpoint on Mac?

Anyone know of an "Office Timeline" plug in for Powerpoint on Mac? I love http://ift.tt/1d6mx44, but it's for Windows only. Mac must run Fusion or such to support Windows Office, not Mac Office. I'm looking for suitable functionality for Office Mac; can't find using google on the dogpile.

Launchd to only run on schedule, not restart?

I have a script that I want to set for 3:30am daily and it does run at the set time but it also runs on every restart of the computer which I do not want.

How do I make this work with just the schedule in place and not run on every startup of the computer?
