I cracked my iPhone 5S screen on pavement. It's currently not covered under AppleCare. I'm wondering, though, if it's worth it to take this to one of those companies that replace broken screens. From what I know, they just replace the glass -- am I wrong in thinking that it's not just the glass that's broken here?
While on a flight in June 2014, the guy next to me put his drink in the gap between the tray and his cup spilled liquid below including on my macbook air which was in the pouch. Unsure of whether there was liquid damage because it was in a protective laptop sleeve, I turned it on and it would work for a minute or two and then turn off.
The next day I took it to the Apple store and the Genius Bar guy could not determine if there were problems. However when I went to use it over the next week or so, it exhibited an unresponsive/slow trackpad which I assumed with an expanded battery due to liquid damage.
After that resolved itself, the only issue I could point to is that the battery loses its charge at an exponential rate (will go from 100%-20% in an hour or two) and it takes substantially longer to charge to full than before this incident.
Went to another Apple Store a few weeks later and upon opening the Air Genius Bar said
Issue: Customer states device had liquid spilled on it. Afterwards, machine is showing multiple charging and battery issues. Steps to Reproduce: Verified battery failed and has liquid damage to battery. Corrosion appears to be present under logic board. Proposed Resolution: Send to depot for Tier 4 liquid damage repair. Replace all damaged parts.
And gave me a $755 quote to have it repaired. I said I would take my chances because for that amount, I'd rather buy a new macbook air entirely. He said it would be a matter of time before the computer would stop working all together.
With that being said, its now 8 months later and the Air is still working, however, I basically always have to have it attached to the charger.
I'm wondering what potential issues I may run into order a new battery via eBay/Singapore and swapping it out via iFix tutorials and the such. Is it possible that electricity is currently running through some of the corrosion on the current battery and if I swap it out, it could brick the entire laptop? What other scenarios could exist where I may better leave everything alone.

I download pdf files on my Mac, and often transfer them to iPad to read.
This used to be straightforward, but the process seems to be much more complex.
I need to select the pdf, select "Open in iBooks" (which actually displays in Preview) then go through the process on iTunes to transfer it to iPad.
Is there a simpler way. I don't actually want to read in iBooks on the Mac (which doesn't happen anyway)?
All I really want to do is transfer selected pdf to iPad.
I regularly listen to Podcasts from a radio station. These normally consist of a number of segments, which I download as individuals.
On my old iPod (iOS6) these played in Music in order. On my iPhone5S (iOS8) they play in Podcasts in reverse order (last played first), regardless of the order I download them. If I select the 1st (usually the last unplayed in the list), it does not automatically continue with the list, although if I play the last it does, but the segments are in reverse order.
Is there any way of making iPhone5S (iOS8) behave like iPod (iOS6)? (There is a similar 3 year old question - I hoped Apple would have fixed this bug by now.)
I'm having trouble running OSX Server on my 2014 Mac Mini it has been periodically crashing and producing this Crash report. Can anyone help decipher what the issue is? Or help with trying to figure out next steps?

I am trying to set up a password requirement for the accounts on OS X 10.9 I am editing it by using the following command:
sudo pwpolicy -setglobalpolicy "maxFailedLoginAttempts=5 minChars=10 requiresNumeric=1 requiresSymbol=1 requiresAlpha=1"
however if a new account is made it allows them to type in whatever password they want and does not enforce the policy. However, if I then "reset" the account password, the password policy seems to come into effect and prevent the password change if it is not compliant. My question is, is there a way to enforce the password policy for all new accounts created so it requires you to initially abide by the password policy? If not is there a way to have the computer check accounts for compliancy and if not compliant have a password reset during next login?
I added all up all of the usage data on my iphone 5s(16gb) and it came up to a little over 1gb, while it says 11 gb is used, with only 1.7 gb is free.

I sync my iOS (now v8.2) email to my paid gmail google apps account via Exchange Active Sync / aka Google Sync. This is accomplished on the iPhone / iPad by adding an Exchange account. All works fine but flag syncing seems to have been broken since the first release of iOS 8.
In the past, setting your email domain to either "Google" or "gmail.com" allowed for flag syncing but this seems to have no affect now. I can't say for sure that this is an iOS issue vs a gmail issue.
If I "star" a message via the gmail web interface, my iPhone seems to receive the push notification that something has changed (the spinner next to my connection type briefly spins) but messages are not flagged.
Any suggestions?
I'd like to understand exactly how PowerPoint for Mac and Keynote work in Presentation mode, from a code / MAC OS windowing standpoint. Both programs can enter presentation mode, which takes over the screen, but the mechanisms they use seem to be different. When I use mission control while running presentations, I see that neither open a new desktop (Space), which is what I might expect.
When PowerPoint is running and I press the mission control button, I see Dashboard and Desktop icons at the top of the window. The contents of the desktop icon show the presentation, and the main window shows the PowerPoint application not running a presentation. When I click the desktop icon or the PowerPoint application in the main window, mission control goes away and I'm seeing the presentation again, still in fullscreen mode. If I click some other application in the main window, like safari, the powerpoint presentation goes away and I see the desktop is back to normal, but if I then click on PowerPoint, the fullscreen presentation comes back.
Keynote acts differently. With keynote, in mission control I still see the dashboard and desktop icons, but the desktop icon shows the contents of the desktop without keynote or the keynote presentation. In the main window, I see the keynote application, with the contents on the running presentation.
I'm trying to understand how and why these programs act the way they do. Any advice on where to look or what to read would be appreciated!
I do not get all my Gmail. I get some but not all; it is random. ALSO, perhaps related, I tried to send an email with an attachment to a large number of people. I got the message "Cannot send message using the server Gmail." BUT I cannot get rid of this email. It always reappears, unsent, with the error message. I cannot delete it and try again. HELP
At home, I like to play movies on a secondary monitor while working on my primary monitor. When I press F3 to Expose my windows, it disrupts the movie on the second monitor. How can I configure Expose to only run on the active/primary monitor and mirrors of the active monitor?
So My computer crashed due to a power cable issue. Now that thats resolved I was attempting to send messages to KNOWN iMessage user (ie people I've sent iMessages to prior to the crash) and now its not registering the other users as iMessages. It says I'm sending an iMessage and it failed because the user is not registered for iMessage. How do I fix this?
My iPhone is simply not charging unless I switch it off while it is already plugged in. I suspect it to be a software problem, as when its off it charges. Windows does not seem to recognize the device but still charges when it is switched off.
I have tried cables that work on my friends phones and original cables, still no luck.

I have reworded the question to emphasize that it is about pip installs only. I would also like to emphasize here that the problem is not about needing write permission to the modules. The problem is that the modules are being installed without read permissions.
(*) A hack to fix it is to chmod a+rX the proper permissions (744/755) onto the newly installed package files
I had a load of photos that I really wanted to keep on my photo booth and was trying to work out how I could send them to a friend.
Then I opened up my Pictures folder in Documents and clicked on 'Photo booth library'. A message then came up with an option to do with default highlighted and I hit enter without thinking.
When I went back to photo booth all of my pictures were gone and it said "0 photos". Have they somehow been deleted? Did the message say that by hitting default they would all be deleted? Is there any way that I can recover these pictures?
Mac OS X Yosemite : I'm trying to set the values of some file metadata attributes - kMDItemDateAdded and kMDItemLastUsedDate - the values of which can be shown using mdls <filename>. I'm trying to set their values using xattr.
I've tried this:

I have a lot of files in a directory that have [!] in the file name. Is there a way to trim that out with a command in the terminal? Here's an example filename. file001[!].ext
How is it that Disk Utility allows you to resize the partition that OS X is botted from live, while the OS is running? Can there be problems doing this? I would have thought that booting into recovery mode to do these things would be a requirement.

It seems that the new USB-C connector is good for charging, good for HDMI output, good for connecting to new devices that use USB-C connectors, and good for older USB devices like an old scanner, printer, external hard drive, and video capturing box.
I suppose the older devices can be connected by using a USB-C to multi-port USB hub. However, I wonder how this USB-C connector can be connected to multiple USB-C devices, HDMI output, and older USB devices? For example, let's say an HDMI output adaptor is plugged into the Macbook, then how do you charge the Macbook, and how can another USB-C device as well as an older USB device be both plugged in?

My current MacBook Pro is the early-2011 model with Intel Core i7-2620M processor. I have retrofitted it with 8GB of DDR3-1333 RAM and 480GB Intel SSD 520 Series.
Trips to processor spec comparison and benchmark databases gave me indecisive results.
The one my friend gave me is the early 2012 model with i5-3210M processor. I want to install 16GB of DDR3-1600 RAM and move the SSD over if I do make the switch.
My question is: does it make sense for me to switch computers? And will the newer computer accept my retrofitting parts? Also about the old computer, will a 256GB Kingston SSDNow drive (after the Intel SSD is removed) make a good system drive for a backup machine?
I am a iOS developer that does not play games, and I venture into the virtual machine world very frequently. This is my use pattern.
Oftentimes, after I wake my Mac from sleep, powerd (which is the power management daemon? Which in particular deals with sleeping the Mac and waking it?) uses high CPU, usually around 25% to 50% on my i7 CPU.
Anyone know how I can find out what's causing it, and what I can do to fix it? It seems to be a problem with waking from sleep but I don't know what.
This problem started happening after I updated my Mac Mini to 10.10.2, a few weeks ago.
OK this is no joke and it's funny. So I got semen on some of my macbook pro keyboard keys and then after I cleanup the keys, they stopped working. I guess the semen went inside. It's so embarrassing to ask this.
My questions:
1- is there a chance to fix the keys or do I need to change the entire keyboard?
2- Does Apple fix macbook pros or do I need to replace the keyboard myself? it's late 2010 MBP (no warranty of course).

I updated GIMP from MacUpdates since then I got two Gimp icons in Launchpad. I also deleted the Gimp.app from finder but now i get this question mark on the gimp icon in Launchpad. How to completely remove both of these icons?
Im using iPod touch 4G . I had jailbroken my device an year ago. I had a backup file with me, but i lost it due to formatting my PC. Now i want to remove my jailbreak . I tried removing jailbreak by resetting my device into with factory reset, but jailbreak had deleted some files from the device which prevent the reset. I have an IMac OsX 10.4.11 Proccessor 2 GHz core duo 1GB Ram, when I logout all my files from the desktop erased and pictures from Photobooth also erases. My settings go back to default inlcuding my Dock Station.

On Macbook Air, I have OSX 10.9.4 and it allows me to update to Yosemite, will this affect the Windows 7 partition that I installed using Bootcamp ?
Edit: I had two windows partitions, after update, windows cannot see the second Fat32 partition, just the main windows partition. Mac sees both windows partitions and says second one is "Fat32" but windows sees that as unpartitioned space. Not sure what to do next.

I'm using OS X Yosemite - version 10.10.2. I have 1.12 TB fusion drive on my system. Recently I wanted to make a partition on my system, while making the partition on the system using disk utility some error occurred and partition was not created successfully.

I have inadvertently deleted my Applications folder from the dock.
I tried accessing the Applications icon in a finder window.
I tried to drag it down to the dock.
I did so to the lower left hand of the screen and now the Applications icon went away with a cloud image.
Now I have no access to my Applications.

Why does a text message from a contact I've had for years suddenly come thru using their e-mail address instead of their contact name? The messages came through normally at 7:51 this morning, but starting at 8:05 they came through with the email address. Both phones have msg settings correct.
Gmail I cannot configure Apple email on my MacBook Pro to allow me to send iPhotos (for example) via one of my two gmail accounts. I do not normally use Mac mail but I'm stuck with it as part of my software.
One message, for example, claims "Gmail not online" when in fact it is.

I have videos of different kinds — music videos, movies, documentaries, and so on — organised into nested folders. I'd like to copy these folders over to the iPad and preserve the organisation.
I'm looking for video player apps that support folders, including nested folders — I should be able to copy them via iTunes from my Mac, and have the app show me and let me browse the folder hierarchy.
Many apps don't work properly — they either don't recognise videos in folders (they support only videos added at the top level), or they do recognise them but show a single combined list of videos across all folders, jumbled up, which doesn't work for me.
So, what are some great video player apps that support folders, including nested folders?

on yosemite i now get chrome error when clicking link from skype or using alfred to open customized urls. the links and custom urls fail to open and instead I am presented with a dialog that says 'The application google chrome is not open anymore', even though the application is open.

I've recently reformatted my MBP to Yosemite and have run into an issue with my Logitech mouse. After doing some research I discovered that this is a longstanding issue. In the process of trying to fix this, I've installed (and tried to uninstall) several different driver kernel extensions.
I've removed these drivers from system preferences (by right clicking) but I've noticed that there are still the .kext files in /Library/Extensions folder.
Is it same to simply delete the related files and restart my computer to remove the extensions, or do I need to use some kind of tool to do so?

When i try to get an app, my iPad says "Apple id password incorrect", but I know it's right. I even changed my password, and it says the same.
I'm trying to recover an apparently corrupted disk. It appears that through improper shutdown the drive has been somehow killed. It's the main partition of a Macbook Pro.
I've used dd to copy the drive to an external hard drive, and now I'm trying to mount it under linux (Ubuntu) to retrieve whatever I can. (I can also try from another Mac.)

Something is wrong with the superblock or with the B-node tree. I've seen recommendations for DiskWarrior out there, but I it has a high price for no guarantee that it will work, so I thought I'd try my hand at it with free approaches first.

When writing a message using Siri, the software will stop listening for the message at the slightest pause.
For example:
Me: Send a message to John
Siri: Okay, what would you like it to say?
Me: Hi John...
Siri: Okay, your message to John is "Hi John", would you like me to send it?
And this continued every time I left a pause to think what I wanted to say next.
Really annoying.
Is there a way to make Siri wait and listen properly?
So basically I want to make a document where different pages have a different amount of columns. For example, I want a page to have 2 (equal width) columns while the next page has one (fullwidth) column. I tried achieving this by making a new section, but as soon as I remove a column, the previous section gets reverted back to one column also..
Is there any way to prevent Pages from doing this?
I'm using Pages version 5.5.2...

Recently I bought a new iPhone, but most of my contacts informative are backuped on my Gmail. I know some ways like iTunes; is there any other more easier ways ?
I am a beginner to IOS development and I was following Getting Started guide from Apple Developer Documentation.
Apps created using IOS SDK 8.1 in Xcode 6.1.1 appears differently in IOS 7.1 (iphone 5). There is an empty space in top and bottom, I confirm that it appears like that in actual device also.
However it appears as expected in IOS 8.1 devices.
Apple Documentation of Size Class on earlier IOS version doesn't help me, I even tried disabling the size class but the problem still persists.
Could someone direct me. Remember I just started to learn IOS.

Is it possible on a mac os x 10.10 to toggle between applications using keywords in title of an application? Let's say I have several opened sublime text 3 instances:
sublime text 3 app with folder /path/to/firstFolder opened in it and so it has a title firstFolder sublime text 3 app with folder /path/to/secondFolder opened in it and so it has a title secondFolder I can toggle between this two instances using super + ` keys.
But I would like to toggle using keywords input like in mac's spotlight or Alfred.
I input in search box keys first and it should find out the sublime text 3 with firstFolder in title.
Do such an app exist?
Spotlight and Alfred apps are nice but they cannot find app instances by keywords in their titles.
