I am facing very sluggish performance in my MacBook Pro after I upgraded it to Yosemite. Mine is 8GB, i7 mid 2012 system.
Usually I find my unused RAM <25MB even if I work in terminal, say around 8 Safari tabs open (excluded fb) and some light-weight programming editor open.
I remember I never faced such sluggish performance in Mavericks or Mountain Lion. I have closed all unwanted graphical effects, but still no improvement on performance.
Any suggestions?
Windows keyboards map pretty intuitively to OS X, leaving only the "context menu" button a little purposeless. I would like the menu key to behave as another Command key.
How does one define what the "context menu" key on Windows keyboards does in OS X?
On this keyboard, the "context menu" key is directly under the "." (period/greater than) key; on the bottom row between "alt" and "ctrl" on the right side, two keys to the left of the "left arrow" key. What does it do in OS X, and what is it called?
I recently did a clean install of OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 on my MacBook Air.
I was making a credit card payment on the Barclaycard website and received a dialog window saying ""Safari" would like to control this computer using accessibility features."
I chose "Deny" but I am wondering why I received this dialog in the first place? I am certain I was on the actual, official Barclaycard website. Do I have malware? The only extensions I am using with Safari are AdBlock and 1Password.
Why there is no way to share a photo to whatsapp or evernote? Is this whatsapp and evernote faults? Or Apple's programmers fault? This is only possible if you give the app access to ALL of your photos. You just want to share one. To Facebook it's possible. In android this is beautiful. Why iOS has to be like this?
I uninstalled Google chrome buy deleting it from the Applications folder and I also deleted the associated profile data from ~/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome
But I have failed to remove all the chrome apps icons from launchpad.
I would greatly appreciate it if you can point to the location where google is keeping those app launchers. I have looked for them in the hidden folders as well as Google folders in ~/Library but I have had no luck.

When I have an application that I use the contextual menu for 'Show in Finder' it opens finder, but it always opens it in the 1st space, never in the current space i'm in. For example, I have Xcode in space 3 always, and when I right click and show item in finder it opens the finder window in Space 1 always, same across all other applications and instances. Even worse, it doesn't autonomically teleport to the 1st space I have to manually do it. I'm running 3 monitors which makes it a little more aggrevating

I have observed that Ink, though it works reasonably well with printed characters, does terribly with cursive. This contrasts poorly with the handwriting recognition built into tablet editions of Microsoft Windows, which handle cursive very well. Is there some setting that can be changed that would enable Ink to handle cursive better, or is there a third-party solution for live cursive recognition under OS X?

I really need a fix here. My MacBook Pro 17" keeps shutting down in booting up process. I did a "command-V" key and this what showed. Hoping this can help those of you that read this stuff.
I want to leave my AirPort Extreme (version 76400.10) at one end of my house, and use my iMac with Internet Sharing activated at the other end of the house. Ideally, I would be able to walk around the house with my phone and seamlessly connect to whichever access point has the better signal. I was told this could be done if both networks have the same network name and password, but I'm having trouble setting it up. I have both Airport and iMac set up with the same WEP password (WPA not available on iMac internet sharing).
Still my phone insists that there are two separate networks and doesn't magically stay connected to the internet as I walk around without manually switching.
Are the apps like TextWrangler sandboxed when I download them from the OS X appstore?
So, I have a Windows computer and it has three web browsers. IE, Chrome and Firefox. Is it possible to have a Python script capture the URL's going out of the browser and store them in a variable?

I entered iCloud ID to my iPhone 5 which "Find my iPhone" button was on and someone changed the password. Now every second I use the phone they ask me to sign in to iCloud.
How can I remove this ID and unlock my iPhone?
Is there a way to hide the subject field of messages which appear in the top right corner of the screen when I receive and iMessage on my computer? I know there is a way to hide it on messages that come to my iphone, is there a way to do the same on a mac book?

This is probably something simple but its driving me crazy...
I was just able to build my first automator workflow, which is quite basic and uses the Subtitles application to download subtitles for movies in a specific folder.
The Actions are:
Get Folder Contents Filter Finder Items (to only movie files) Open finder item with the Subtitle app
It works fine when I execute the workflow from within Automator because it has a "Folder Action receives files and folders added to:" clause in the beginning which tells which folder to use.
However, I want to save that as an application so I can schedule that on iCal but, when I save as an app, the clause which tells the folder is no longer available and looks like I need to pass the folder name as a parameter/argument and I have no idea on how to do that.
So, what I need guidance is on how to have the app executed in iCal while telling it which folder to use.

I have a MacBook Air and random advertisements and tabs have been popping up, I wanted to know if I take it to my nearest apple store can they figure out a way to help me fix this for free or at least at a low price?
When importing pictures, how do you change the "from" date in the lower left hand corner. It imports pictures from 2011. I want it to only import from a more recent date. How do I edit that date. I don't want to import over 1500 pictures each time, especially when I've only taken 40 new ones that I want to import.
I want to put up my entire collection of music in iTunes however i am begining to realize that i wont have the space for all of it.
Alot of the soundtracks i have are Drama CD's which i could remove but i may want to re-add them later on so i want to avoid deleting them from iTunes. so i figured instead of syncing all songs i would sync selected albums since i wont listen to Drama CD's as often as an Opening/Ending Single.
Problem, the Album List is identical to the Artists list, it shows the Artist Meta Tag first which is a problem when it's very long
In the first image is the Album Select list, the red highlighted album is has got a very long value for the Artist Meta Tag which is hiding the album name (the matching Album is in the second image)
Now my processes for getting Music is
I do this because my PC does not connect to the internet. that said the Artist Meta Tag for the Album i have highlighted came like that in the download. I know one solution is to alter the Artists Meta Tag so that it's separated between it and the Contributing Artist Meta Tag but i have got a lot of songs which share the same problem particularly some of the names are in Japanese and not all that easy to know when to separate, that and i also want to trust the torrent uploaded that they have correct Meta Tags.
Now i am wondering how i can fix the Album Select to show the Album first rather than Arists? this will allow be to avoid reviewing thousands of songs
Also, as a second question related to this, as you can see in the screenshots the Album Yuru Yuri no Uta is appearing at the top when it should be at the bottom, i can determine this is because the Album Select is order by Artists Name. this is a problem for Soundtracks for Another, .Hack, Katanagatari and Code Geass as all of these have one or more soundtracks (mainly Opening/Ending Singles) who's Artist is ALI PROJECT, with Code Geass a number of their Endings is done by ALI PROJECT but one of their openings, COLOURS is done FLOW so given the current ordering the Code Geass Albums will be split up. While i can live with just fixing the list so Albums appear first it would be good to also have the Albums listed alphabetical order by Album Name and not Artist Name
I have an iCloud account out that there that is attached to an email address that is no longer working. So I cannot do a password reset, because that email address is not working. So I cannot re-set it.
I need to get the pictures downloaded from that old iCloud account and add them to my new iCloud account. But I can't log in to get that done.

I have configured a VPN service using only the built-in options from OS X. I have configured it as follows:
I don't have any settings under Advanced, so I have entered no DNS Servers, no Search Domains, and no Proxie Servers or Proxy Configuration file for any of the protocols.
When am I connected to this VPN, does all my traffic go through the VPN connection? In other words, if I am using a messenger, searching on Google, sending email or browse the web, can the provider of the VPN service see all my traffic?
For the majority of PDFs I view in Safari, they are opened in-line, which is what I want. For example, these all open in Safari:
However, some PDFs, for reasons I have not been able to determine, are instead downloaded. For example, when I click on each of the following links, a PDF is immediately downloaded, instead of being displayed in-browser.
I suspect that the servers for the last two links are doing something like what is described in the StackOverflow question "force a pdf download automatically", but I'm not sure. I have already removed the last vestiges of Adobe's PDF reader, which I regret ever installing, including the internet plugin in the /Library/Internet Plugins directory.
How can I make sure that whenever Safari encounters a PDF, it is opened in the browser, and not downloaded?
In OSX, how do I have a true full screen? When I go to full screen mode, the tab and navigation bar are still showing. Those toolbars are annoying when I try to watch a movie, etc.

If I don't have any code that references JSON then I'm fine. I can build. I can even get the dummy response from my little server providing some json stubbing.

Since a few days, an app called qImanage seems to show up on my Dock as a running app constantly. Have tried restarting, but it shows up again.
The app has no window, and clicking on its icon on the dock seems to does nothing.
Trying to quit the app has to effect either.

Can someone throw some light on what's happening? I checked Login Items but it isn't listed there.

I am using Microsoft Word for Mac on my MacBook Pro OS X (Yosemite). I tried closing a word document but the red button turned gray and nothing happened. I can minimize it, but can't move it to trash or save.
I have a Google group of contacts setup (that is, it's a group I created and stored using my Google account). I'd like to send an SMS message to the group from my iPhone 5s with iOS 8. How can I do this with free apps?
In other words, I don't want to have to add people individually to the SMS message. I want to just choose the group (from a list of groups obtained from my google account), and the app will automatically add the members of the group to the SMS recipients.

in itunes, in artist view, after i've used "command+L" to go to the track currently playing, how do i exit and go back to showing All Artist? I currently have to scroll to the top of the artist list (on the sidebar) and click "All Artist" every time. Is there an easier way, a shortcut?
I would like the following behaviour of the Safari PDF Download button:
On clicking the PDF download button by moving the pointer to the bottom of a pdf/ps, the file is downloaded to the Downloads/ folder. INSTEAD, I would like that to work as a "Save As" button so that I can save the pdf by a different name and in a location I prefer.
I know there is Cmd-S but I would like to use this as an opportunity to learn about Apple Scripts if that kind of idea can be used to solve this problem...

VERY new to coding, especially to using an IDE like XCode. I am typing away my C/C++ code, compiling and testing it within XCode itself. How do I get it out as a self-standing application? If I'm not mistaken, the term I am looking for is the "solution", how do I create/export one?
I wish to create a file that the user would double-click, terminal window would open, prompt would well, prompt for the inputs and the program would run based upon these.
Finally, it would prompt for an exit choice (Y/N) and the window would close.

What are the drawbacks of updating my iPhone 4s to the latest iOS? What are the advantages? With my phone plan, I cannot get the newest iPhone yet.
I have been watching Netflix on my computer and made the mistake of quickly cleaning my keyboard (pressing a bunch of random buttons) while a video was playing. Ever since, my full screen option won't work on my Mac on Safari or on Netflix. I know that the little green button is supposed to make it go full screen but it won't do it and a little error sort of noise (like when you click something that is out of your frame) goes off. It does the same thing while I watch Netflix and try to use the little fullscreen button on the video.
I keep getting notification of missed facetime from an email address, they come 2 notfications at the time. I've tried blocking the caller, but it's not a caller it's an email. how can I stop this

On my Mac, which gcc indeed points to /usr/local/bin/gcc, when I brew install suite-sparse, it downloads gcc-4.9.1, while I already have gcc-4.9.2 locally.
I just want to keep things simple, use my local gcc with the associated library, e.g. gmp and mpfr (at /usr/local/lib), is it possible with Homebrew?
Is there any way to stop Google Chrome from sucking up such vast amounts of CPU?
E.g.
Can anybody help me out. I want to create a smartfolder with all my mp3's. I renamed all my mp3's to correct full name. For example:
Phil Collins - In The Air Tonight.mp3
When I create a smart folder. It shows all my mp3's but with the name from metadata (ID3 tag) so only In the air tonight. There is no way to select filename in the colums. This is really annoying.
Does anybody know a solution? Or another program that does the trick? Or a hack?
I've upgraded to 10.9 and now my motu 828 firewire is not being recognized. What can I do to not loose my interface?
A strange thing happen to my chrome web browser, and I don't know why, I hope you can help me.
In my chrome tabs the bootswatch symbol appears in the tab icon even when I'm not in the bootswatch website!!
I have already uninstalled the chrome browser using the AppCleaner.app, and I also checked if I had some weird extension installed.
I really don't know why this happens, it is strange. I am programming in ruby on rails and I have browsed and tried bootswatch, but I don't know why this has affected my browser!
Any help?

I am using tikona broadband internet and they usually have a 5 IP address restriction. I managed to by pass that by using a linksys router WRT120N . I setup the router to distribute IP addresses as 192.168.1.2-20.
However, when i am connecting my new time capsule, it seems to distribute IPs from DHCP as 10.x.x.2 onwards only.
How do i set up the time capsule so that it takes 10.x.x.x a its IP from DHCP and distributes over the network IPs as 192.168.1.X onwards?
That is also needed so that i will not have to login on each individual device with the ISP username and password on their website.
I copy it to HDD from DMG file. 
So my mum recently called my iphone, she uses a samsung i think, and I was using it at time and was on the skype app typing, but then she called at the same time and she said that her call stopped and a voice answer said that I was online or unavailable to pick up a call, but then she called again straight after and it went through. Is this true? If so how can this be turned off? If its locked she can call, and even if Its unlocked it rings, and ive tried it with my brother while it was locked and when i was using an app and it went through.
When creating a Smart Playlist, what does placing a "All of the following are true" nested group when the playlist is set to "Match all of the following rules"?
I've tried reading through it logically a few times, and I always end up with it not actually contributing to the flow of the smart playlist. If all the items in the nested group have to be true, and all the items directly under parent must be true, it seems that this configuration would only serve as a way to group similar items to a user's preference.
Is there a logical precedence that I am missing where having a "match all" nested group on the first level of a "match all" smart playlist makes sense?
The os X volume/brightness/... overlays display information about the current strength/action when a user press the function keys. The service that do this is called the BezelUIServer and can be found here:
/System/Library/LoginPlugins/BezelServices.loginPlugin/Contents/Resources/BezelUI/BezelUIServer
These are, imho, too intrusive and take up to much space. In my quest to reduce this I found that the bezels (or overlays) can be disabled completely thru a terminal command, as found here by:
sudo /bin/chmod -x /System/Library/LoginPlugins/BezelServices.loginPlugin/Contents/Resources/BezelUI/BezelUIServer
(I have not been able to start it again however so proceed at your on risk. According to the source one are suppose to exchange the -x with +x but this did not work for me.)
My question I would like to ask is if anyone know of a way to change the appearance of these bezels, maybe thru a custom bezelUIservice file? Or any other way that reduce the screen space / increase the transparency of these overlays?
I am currently reading a few websites in European languages (Spanish, Italian, German and French), and I'd like to be able to quickly translate words that I don't know (not the entire articles, which is why I don't want to use Chrome's translation). I know there's a "define" feature, and it is nice, but it only gives definitions in the same languages as the word of interest, so it is not exactly useful for someone unfamiliar with the language.
So, maybe someone knows a feature or an extension similar to the "define" one, but that would allow me to quickly look up a translation for a word? I'm interested in solutions for both Mac OS X and iOS (latest versions). Maybe there are third-party Italian-, German-, and French-English dictionaries for Apple's "Dictionary" application?
For years I've been sharing Internet on my MacBookPro Wi-Fi coming from USB connected iPhone. After OSX 10.10 Yosemite things started working erratically and now definitely stopped in 10.10.2.
Hardware connection: iPhone->USB->MacBook Pro (hotspot/tethering active, Internet is working on MBP)
Sharing preferences: "share USB iPhone to computers using Wi-Fi"
Now I'm not getting the usual "arrow up" icon instead of WiFi on the menubar and sharing is not working.
Internet sharing from Ethernet to Wi-Fi is working as expected.
During many tests I've been able to activate internet sharing only once, after a long series of SMC resets, disk repair and reboots, but never been able to reproduce it anymore.
After installing 10.10.1 everything seemed back to normal. Just tried now with 10.10.2 and it's not working.
In system logs I'm getting this strange message:

Someone on Apple Communities says "sharing from iPhone is no more supported...", then why device is still there in the menu and you don't get any warning?

Me and my brother both have iPhones. So first my brother started playing clash of clans on his phone. The game looked really good so I downloaded it on my phone. It gave me my brothers village without asking me. So now I need to know how to make a new village on my iPhone but keep his village on his phone? Please help!
My Mac Pro 3, 1 began rebooting randomly one day and the next it wouldn't come back on. Pushing the power button results in a fan clicking in to life for half a second and then all power is lost. The RAM board LEDs and Diagnostic LEDs OT A and OT B both flash momentarily. When the diagnostic button is pressed on the logic board the Trickle Power LED lights orange.
All my troubleshooting led me to believe the PSU was borked. But when on the phone to Apple support, around a week later, I tried one last time to turn it on and it roared in to life. It stayed on for a few days and I backed everything up. It hadn't been off at all, I updated from 10.10.1 to 10.10.2 and rebooted. No issue. I shut it down.
At 8am the next day I woke up to the computer trying to start, and I remembered that before the initial problems I had set it to wake at that time. But then it clicked off and it's been refusing to start ever since.
Apple support (over the phone) say they don't think it's the PSU as it wouldn't have started working again. What could it be? Could it be the automatic wake?
I have tried removing the memory boards and every other component one by one without any luck.
