How can I set the log level of launchd in MacOS Yosemite?

I've tried launchctl log level debug but it doesn't work.

What would happen if I force installed a Linux driver into Mac OS X?

So, recently I got a Mac system and I was planning to put in an Intel WiFi card (as an upgrade for its current card). Now, as we know, Apple and Intel do not get along WiFi-wise.

However, this same card works in Linux.

What would happen if I were to force the Intel drivers for the Linux kernel into Mac OS X? Would it work? Would there be severe instability or data loss? Is it even possible?

Can't disable automatic app update on ipad ios 8.1.3

I just updated an Ipad2 to ios 8.1.3. This ipad is wifi only. I want to disable automatic app updates (I've been burned before with this) but the ipad won't let me toggle the update button from green to white. I can move it to white, but it just slides itself back to green! I've tried this with the ipad connected to wifi and not connected. Any help would be appreciated!

Brief graphic glitch right before screensaver

I have a 2013 iMac running OS 10.8.5. Lately I've noticed that, whenever I manually initiate the screensaver (one of the included ones, "Shell"), there is a momentary graphical glitch before the screen saver begins. This happens when I both move the mouse cursor into the hot corner and when I preview the screen saver within the system settings. My question is: is this cause for alarm; is it heralding an imminent logic board issue?

How can I add a website to Notification Center after denying its initial request?

For example, when visiting eBay.com or cnn.com, a dialogue box pops up asking if the site can send notifications to Notification Center.

OSX 10.6.6 Outlook 2011 How to set up auto responders for different times of the day

I need to be able to set up multiple auto responders that send out at different time frames: e.g. from 12pm to 1 pm with 1 message, recurring every week day. Then another auto responder with a different message from 7:30 pm until 8:30 am, again recurring every weekday. i’ve gathered it might be something i can rig up with applescripts. i’m not sure where to start.

Jailbroken iPhone 6 stuck in recovery mode

I selected the "Erase All Content" button in my iPhone today and ever since, it has been stuck on the Apple logo screen with a progress bar under at 0% making no progress. I can't get it to stay in DFU Mode without going straight back to the same screen. Please can somebody help me get it back to working without taking it to Apple.

Two problems in Yosemite in French: Spotlight and Ctrl + More, how to fix them?

My OS is in French.

1) I open Spotlight and converted any currency to ARS (Argentinean peso), but Spotlight doesn't recognise this currency. It doesn't recognise AR, ARS, $AR, $ARS, Argentinean peso, peso argentin, etc.

2) In Pages and any applications, when I pressed Ctrl + More to increase the letter size, it aligned the text to center.

I switched OS X's language to English:

1) It isn't solved yet either. Spotlight doesn't recognise really this currency.

2)I t works, it doesn't align the text to center, it only increases the letter size.

Why does my command line prompt now beging with "vpn"?

I was just (unsuccessfully) playing around with setting up a vpn in OS X Server, and now all my new terminal prompts begin with "vpn" followed by my user name. Anyone know why this is the case and how I can revert back to my default prompt, without "vpn"?

can't log on to Mac mini

I'm trying to log on to my Mac mini but when I try to use the arrow keys to select my user it just makes that sound when you press something wrong. The mousepad is never able to select the users at login and I always is the arrow keys, press return to select my user and then type the password, but tonight nothing is happening? I shut it down manually and restarted it but the problem remains....

iPhone messages never get delivered

Having problems with iMessage dropping messages between two iPhones.

The issue of iMessage losing messages sent to users who have switched to non-apple devices is well documented, but in this case we're seeing one iPhone user message another, and the message never gets through. There's no indication on the sender's side that the message failed- we just happened to notice it on our own. It's happened at least twice within the past few months (though probably a lot more)

Here's the latest example. My friend asks a question, and I respond a couple of minutes later, but she never gets it on her end- though everything looks fine on my side:

One possible clue: Her question was sent as an SMS, not an iMessage (which apparently happens when a phone can't access normal data coverage - hence the green bubble.) Did that somehow cause my subsequent reply to get lost?

Whatever the case, there's no technical excuse for a queued messaging system to be silently vanishing messages- Apple's got some explaining to do.

Photo Booth freezes for >30s whenever I open it

I've had this problem ever since I upgraded from Mavericks. Whenever I open Photo Booth, the application seems to be stuck on startup and I have to wait for like 50 seconds for it to become useable. A few months ago, it used to be like 20 seconds but it seems like the waiting time gets higher all the time.

Im using a Macbook Pro Retina 15 inch Early 2013.

Will HFS+ extended attributes be lost on FreeNAS?

I have FreeNAS server partially set up on an HP Microserver, but just realized that I may lose all my extended attribute metadata on the files that come from my Macs (which is what most of my computers are). This metadata is somewhat important to me, so if FreeNAS will lose this data then maybe I need to rethink my strategy.

I was going to use FreeNAS for both Time Machine backup and as a file server, so the metadata would be relevant in both cases.

Will FreeNAS keep the metadata if I connect to it using AFP, or will it lose the metadata?

Central admin-managed contact list for iPhone

what is the solution to provide a group of iPhone users (personally owned devices with users own AppleIDs) with an group-contact list that is centrally managed by an admin (i.e. the group contact list on phone always being sync'ed with central admin version)? E.g. consultants in a workgroup being able to get hold of each other and ensuring contact list is always up-to-date.

Most existing contact-related apps don't seem to have admin/sync functionality to other accounts, just like they try to sync with contact list on the phone which should be an option but not a requirement. (examples on contact list are: ContactSync, Contacts Sync, Get Contacts, Circall, ContactBox, ZXContacts, aContacts+, ...).

A Google account and Contacts could be used for "admin service".

I have been unsuccessful trying to set up Google to delegate contacts, though this may solve some issues.

Has anyone had the same challenge before?

AFAIK resource forks should appear in ls -l@ as com.apple.ResourceFork attribute. There is no such attribute on my file. What may be the difference between them?

I forgot security questions and rescue email

Recently I got some money in my Apple ID and a few years ago I made a rescue email ( which I forgot how to enter ) and put some security questions I forgot how to awnser and I cannot buy apps ,music or movies because I need to fill in the security questions ! If I don't find an awnser on here, I will call Apple customers support.

How to manually control processes launched on start?

Every time my Mac starts, about ~210 processes are launched, requiring about ~1000 OS Threads. With every Apple update this number increases. I've been calling MacOS X BloatOS X for a while, but is there a way to do something about it?

Some of the processes are started by root, I don't want to do much about those.

However, most of them are started by my user, and most of those are for things that I do not need or that I have explicitly disabled in system preferences (keychain, messenger...).

I guess launchd is in charge of starting all this processes, is there a way to control which are started and which ones aren't? (A configuration file somewhere?).

How to uninstall an app on iOS

Of course, by holding down on an icon and tap the x lets me uninstall an app. But take a look at this:

Here, the Pandora app is somehow stuck at the "update phase". Tapping it to continue download doesn't work. The progress "circle" will get stuck. So I decided to reinstall it.

For some reason it doesn't even show the name of the app. It's just blank.

Tapping delete does nothing. So what do I have to do to fix this problem?

When I am trying to login into my web application in Safari 7.1.2 and 8.0.2, HTTP authentication popup occurs and even after entering the correct credentials it shows the error that your username/password is incorrect. Can you please tell any workaround so this error is resolved.

Downloading songs from external hard dirve

I'm using an external hard drive to download songs to itunes. When I'm done syncing, I get a message saying my ipod cannot be ejected because some of the files are being used by another source. Somehow I think some of the files from the external hard drive got downloaded onto the internal hard drive. I'm not super computer literate but I really don't remember doing anything other than moving the file from the external hard drive to iTunes. Why is this happening and what do I do to fix it?

Mid 2010 MacBook Pro and Thunderbolt display

Is there a way to use Thunderbolt display with mid 2010 MacBook Pro that only has a Mini DisplayPort (i.e. no Thunderbolt)? I understand that Thunderbolt displays are officially supposed to work only with post 2010 Macs, however I only care about the display functionality, i.e. I want my Mac to simply see it as a monitor.

Driver issues Windows 8.1 Pro on Late 2011 MBP

I installed Windows 8.1 pro on my late 2011 mbp and now I'm having issues with audio and display drivers. I can't get the audio to work at all. I have tried updating the drivers and reinstalling them, but nothing has worked.I am also having trouble with my display driver because I can't project to an external monitor. I have also tried updating drivers and reinstalling, but nothing has helped. I don't really know what to do now, but open to any suggestions on how to solve this.

How to repair ~/Library permissions?

While migrating to Yosemite, I manually copied some ~/Library files and folders from my old system to my new system. Now some of the affected apps show weird behavior. Often they cannot save their preferences. One example is the iTunes error message when I try to backup my iPhone:

Whenever I check, my user has read & write permissions. Disk Utility Repair permissions unfortunately does not help here.

What are the correct permissions for files and folders in ~/Library and ~/Library/Preferences? And how do I set them?

Why are Mac command line utilities running so slowly?

I have just noticed that command line utilities such as ls, touch, cat, etc. are very slow when I run them from Terminal or iTerm on my MacBook. For example:

• ls'ing while in an empty directory takes 1 second (it also takes 1 second in a non-empty directory, both with lots of files or with a few files);


• touch'ing a new file takes 1 second (it also takes 1 second to touch an existing file);


• cat'ing an empty file takes 1 second (there is also a 1 second lag before anything happens when I cat a non-empty file).

I have tried to diagnose this in many ways but to no avail. I do not think this is a filesystem issue, since:

  Everything seems to be working just fine in Finder, e.g. directory contents are shown instantaneously in Finder.

  I installed GNU coreutils and tried using gls, gtouch, gcat, etc., and all of the operations I listed above happen instantaneously when run with the GNU version instead.

  
  

Any ideas on how to fix this?
