My iPad is asking me to sign into iCloud every few seconds. Why?

Every few seconds my iPad is asking me to sign into my iCloud - I do and it asks me a few seconds later. I hit cancel, and it asks me a few seconds later.

Does a bootable OS X drive need more free space than the installer?

I made an 8GB partition on my HD to serve as a bootable OS X Yosemite drive, but it seems to still have 2.63GB free after the bootable drive-making procedure. Does the bootable drive need that space to be able to function properly, or can I bring it back into my startup disk partition?

Accidentally deleted iPhoto and lost all of my photos, how can I get the photos back?

iCloud Lock for Macs

I have a questions regarding the iCloud Lock for Macs. Someone stoled my Mac but I activated the iCloud Remote Lock, the Mac never came online so its possible that a theft could restore the Mac without internet (using a USB) so iCloud would never get in so iCloud Lock would never go on because its restore using other Apple ID.

File sharing/AFP skips "connect as"

I have two Macs, a Lion and a Yosemite. I have several accounts on each one, both user and admin. I activated file sharing on both Macs and selected AFP. I can connect from any account on one Mac to any account on the other one Mac as expected, with one exception.

"As expected" means: Select go->"connect to server" in the Finder menu, then enter one of the users names on the other Mac and its password, then choose which of he folders on the other Mac to mount.

The exception is that in one of the accounts the Yosemite Mac ("xyz" - unix name) I do not get the "connect as" prompt. It connects directly as the user "xyz" (same name) on the Lion Mac, without giving me a choice or asking for a password. It only asks me which folder I want to mount. The names are the same, but not the passwords. But so are all the other accounts, the account names on Yosemite mirror the account names on Lion.

This does not happen when connecting from xyz on Lion. It behaves as expected (see above). It does not automatically connect to xyz on Yosemite.

I also changed the password of xyz on Lion many times, and deleted the keychain, restarted, etc. Also, the Lion Mac is off-cloud.

What could be the cause of this behavior and how can I reset it?

App tied to other account in my purchase tab

Recently I got repaired my Late 2011 MBP from Apple Repair Program. I have a strange problem after that. One of my purchased app, iPhoto shows update. But iPhoto is not even installed on my Mac. When I click update, it presents login screen for another Apple id. Before the repair program, it was tied to my Apple id. And since it is not purchased by me, why it is showing in my purchase tab ?

How do I remove this app from my purchase tab and install mine ? TIA

Find My iPhone on iCloud not opening

Whenever I open Find My iPhone in iCloud on my Mac, it says "Cannot load Find My iPhone". Other functionalities work without any issues. I tried all the browsers without any success, But when I open it on any Windows PC, it opens. What might be the problem ?

A new Device on facetime

I got a notification saying a macbook pro is using facetime with my apple id ,but I don't have a macbook pro, so how do I verify what device this is where it is coming from should I be concerned about this.

New iCloud email added to iPhone5 without changing Apple ID,in order to automatically copy all iMessages that uses that new iCloud email to said email

If we create another icloud e-mail can we:

1) Add it to our phone to send and receive emails without affecting the Apple ID being used on the iPhone 5?

2) Use that "New iCloud email" to iMessage with a specific person (i.e. Coworker A will only send us texts with their iPhone using that new iCloud email and we'd only contact them and respond to their texts with that new iCloud email?

3) If, all of the above are possible, then could all your conversations with Coworker A be automatically copied to our email? In other words, we can view the conversation on our iMessage and on our email that we added the new iCloud email to?

If not, how can we have our conversations automatically copied to an email in order for us to that not have to screen shot every Conversation which is quite cumbersome?

I trying to get started using leJOS NXJ to develop in Java for my Mindstorms NXT. I've installed Oracle's Java 8 JDK, Eclipse and leJOS NXJ on my Macbook Pro running Mountain Lion. When I try to link the HelloWorld tutorial program I get the following error:

Wired mouse detected but not responding

I have a wired mouse connected to my Macbook Pro, OS X 10.9.5. The mouse is powered, but completely unresponsive. The mouse works on my windows machine, and the usb port on my Macbook works with other mouses/devices. The mouse is detected in my System Information as

unable to install Google's Droid Sans Mono font

I've downloaded Droid Sans, Droid Serif, and Droid Sans Mono fonts from google.com/fonts and the first two have installed just fine. Unfortunately, I can't get Droid Sans Mono to install; it looks like some message boxes pop up very quickly, but I can't read what they say. When I validate the font file, it looks okay, but installation doesn't do anything.

Any idea what I might be doing wrong?

iPhone 5S using iOS 8.2

I recently downloaded an album straight to my iPhone's music library. The album is synced to iCloud however it keeps removing itself from my music library and I have to 'show all music on' and re-download it for it to be in my library.

How do I stop the album from removing itself to save me from re-downloading it every time I want to listen to it?

All the other songs in my library have been synced to my computer from a CD and downloaded from iCloud onto my phone.

Macbook Pro 2010 Late Kernel Panic issues

I've had random kernel panics on my computer since about the time I updated to OSX Yosemite. I should add that I have a crucial m500 SSD and use the mini port to connect my laptop to a large external monitor which may be causing part of this.

I probably had 5 kernel panics throughout my day (I work all day on my laptop) and noticed that this often happened after I had been away from my laptop and it was in sleep mode or when I used google drive spreadsheets and typed in any information.

I turned off sleep mode on the computer and stopped using the external monitor + google drive and now it seems to happen randomly about twice per day. It's so frustrating! Please see panic below - appears it is graphics related. Any help is greatly appreciated. Also I ran apple hardware test and nothing was wrong. Will reset PRAM to rule that out in a second:

MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2010) shuts down unexpectedly

My wife's MacBook Pro has begun shutting down unexpectedly, at seemingly random intervals. This started occurring after I (very carefully) upgraded the machine from 4 GB to 8 GB of RAM and replaced the old battery, which had reached the end of its life.

The shutdowns are instantaneous, while there is plenty of power left. It's as if the power button was held down. It has happened twice when a USB hard drive was connected, but that might have been a fluke. I haven't been able to consistently reproduce the issue.

Does anyone know how to debug this issue, like if there are any logs of unexpected shutdowns that might provide some clues as to what's going on? Any pointers greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure if this is relevant, but the same machine was having a different issue with sleeping until I upped the RAM and changed the battery. This issue has since stopped happening.

I'm using Mac 10.9.5. When I'm at a Starbucks, my computer will automatically connect to their WiFi network. However, after an hour, they kick you off and although you are still connected to their network, beneath your "WiFi" icon in your Network System preferences, you now have a "Self Assigned IP" and are unable to connect to the Internet. The only way to reconnect is to click the "Turn Wi-Fi Off" button and then click "Turn Wi-Fi On" button to re-enable things.

My question is, how do I write a script to automatically do this for me? What I woudl like is some script run in the background if I'm connected to a network named "Google Starbucks" and then if the script notcied I have a "Self Assigned IP", it woudl turn wi-fi off and turn it back on again without my having to do anything.

Every time I try to synced music from my laptop to iPhone I get this message; I tried to reinstall Itunes I updated the iphone software, nothing works!! I can't transfer any music on my Iphone from my computer !! This is insane

Cannot compile anything anymore after upgrading to Yosemite

I noticed after upgrading to Yosemite that none of my upgrades in homebrew would work anymore. I noticed that it was a problem in general with compiling any kind of C code.

The error I get is:

I get this with every c code i try .

I updated XCode to 6.2, and the command line tools as well.

The strange thing is, this is on my mac mini, but my MacBook Pro does not have this issue at all... :-/

Any hints/ideas?

How to get OS X to recognise scanner/printer is turned on, without rebooting

I have a Canon MP560 printer/scanner combo, installed and working.

However typically when I turn on the power to the printer and click 'Open Scanner...' I get the following error:

Needless to say the scanner is switched ON and the cable IS connected.

If I reboot my macbook then everything works fine. This is a pain in the neck though. I would like to find a way to get the scanner working without having to reboot.

Full details of my setup:

• Macbook Air running Mavericks 10.9.5


• -->connected to CalDigit Thunderbolt dock


• -->connected via USB and HDMI to Dell monitor


• -->connected to printer via USB cable

I don't doubt the intermediate elements in the USB chain probably contribute to the problem, however I will note that everything works fine after I reboot my macbook (with printer switched on and connected).

I don't mind if it's a fiddly hack, deleting plist files etc, as long as I don't have to reboot.

It is physically inconvenient to connect the printer directly to the mac.

It is not the same problem as this How I can get OSX to recognize Canon MP560 Scanner again? since I see the printer and scanner listed as installed.

SSD and PPC with Leopard 10.5.8

G5 quad core PPC with an SSD in it. Should I continue looking for 'trim enabling' software? It doesn't seem to exist. Does the PPC architecture have a built in feature that manages SSD space?

VeraCrypt - Encryption of Host Protected Area on my Macbook Pro 13"

I have a MacBook Pro 13" Model : MGX82xx/A with Windows installed only (no Mac OS X on a different partition, no Boot Camp used (manual driver installation after windows installed.) and a copy of VeraCrypt 1.0f1 installed.

Inside the VeraCrypt Volume Creation Wizard I have selected the options to Encrypt the whole drive.

I am being prompted with a yes/no Question - Encryption of Host Protected Area Which states the following

At the end of many drives, there is an area that is normally hidden from the operating system (such areas are usually referred to as Host Protected Areas). However, some programs can read and write data from/to such areas. WARNING: Some computer manufacturers may use such areas to store tools and data for RAID, system recover, system setup, diagnostic, or other purposes. If such tools or data must be accessible before booting, the hidden area should NOT be encrypted (choose 'No' above).

I would rather encrypt the Host Protected Area just to be sure, but do not want to damage my MacBook permanently if Apple reserve this space for whatever reason I do not know.

Can I encrypt this area?

Not receiving iMessages when on 3G

I have only had this phone (iPhone 5s) a few days and transferred my number. The problem is when my phone is on 3G it's no receiving iMessage, I have missed important messages. Can anyone help?

Should I reinstall any part of Macports when upgrading XCode?

This page claims that both XCode and MacPorts should be reinstalled whenever a major system change occurs (e.g. upgrading version of OS from 10.8 to 10.9). I have done this before when upgrading from OS X 10.9 to 10.10 (of course, XCode and many other things got updated at the same time). It took a while to migrate MacPorts afterward, but it allowed a port to install that wasn't installing otherwise.

I know that MacPorts by default uses XCode. Should I reinstall/migrate my MacPorts according to that page whenever I upgrade XCode, too?

Follow-up question:

Are there other times When is it a good practice to reinstall/migrate my ports? I'd like my system to be running lean, mean and clean. :-)

Remove licenses from deleted user on OS X Server's VPP managed distribution

We buy apps using Volume Purchase Program with managed distribution through OS X Server's profile manager.

One of employees left, so I removed his user account from OS X Server. However, the licenses for apps we bought him are still unavailable to re-assign to other users, and I can't remove them from his account manually because it has been deleted.

Viewing the app's info page in Profile Manager shows that we have 13 - 3 = 10 licenses in use, and only lists 9 people who currently hold licenses to the app:

Is there anything I can do to reclaim that license? I could re-create the user, but we don't have access to his Apple ID so I don't think we could re-connect it to our Profile Manager; and if we can't do that, I don't think we'll be able to see the app associated with his user.

How to modify Finder to show only current directory instead of the cascade of prior opened subdirectories?

Is there a way to force / modify Finder (either 'vanilla' or in combination with XtraFinder) to always show only the 'direct/non-recursive' content (directories / files) of a given directory instead of 'opening' any folder to the extend they were opened the last time Finder was used?

Maybe the follwing illustrates my question a bit better:

Restoring Time Machine backup made on a previous OS X version

My macbook pro, running OS X Lion (10.7.5) got stolen last night. Luckily they didn't take my external drive, where I have a Time Machine back up of all my data, which is extremely important to me (mostly, unfinished music productions projects in Ableton)

Since new MacBooks ship with OS X Yosemite, would I able to restore my Time Machine backup on a new laptop?

App store using incorrect e-mail address as username - iPhone 6

I upgraded my 4s to an iPhone 6 yesterday at the Sprint store. They transferred my data from the 4s to the 6, then erased the 4s. Now when trying to upgrade certain apps (such as Find My iPhone, Facebook, Linkedin Youtube, etc.) it prompts me for a password, but the associated username is an e-mail address I've never seen before and has no association to me or my Apple ID.

This is making it impossible to upgrade the apps and it's frustrating to see someone else's address associate. I've trying signing out of Apple, iCloud and the App store both online and via settings, resetting the iPhone each time — to no avail. Please help!

How can I merge two Apple Mail databases?

A few years back I got a Mac Pro desktop to go alongside my MacBook Pro. I cloned the MacBook Pro user to the Mac Pro so everything would be the same. I've been using ChronoSync to make sure all the documents are the same on each machine.

However, regarding Apple Mail, cloning my account was big mistake because my Apple Mail rules were set up to "Move" certain messages to Mail folders that are "On My Mac". I did not realize that to "move" a message would involve deleting it from the IMAP server and only storing it on my local machine!

So now I have a situation where half of my mail is on the Mac Pro, and half of it is on the laptop. What I want to do is merge all the mail from the laptop into the desktop's Mail program so that any messages that were on one, but not the other, will be added in, but no duplicates will be created.

I've not been able to find any third-party software that can accomplish this nightmarish task. I also don't want to import the messages only to find out I've created duplicates of hundreds of thousands of messages, with no way to delete those duplicates.

Can anyone think of a good way to accomplish this goal? I'm open to any options. Maybe I could import the mail from both Apple Mails into a third-party mail program that has more robust tools for finding and removing duplicates, etc.? Then possibly migrate it back into Apple Mail post-merge?

I would appreciate any advice. I realize there may be multiple valid answers to this so I will try to upvote all viable answers and checkmark the most efficient solution.

availability of ipod, 8 pin plug to 1/8" male audio out plug/cable

I have an ipod touch 5th generation with an 8 pin to usb adapter plug. I use the headphone out (1/8" male phono plug to rca plug adapter) to feed audio to my home stereo... I would rather use a "line out" feed from my iphod - a line out feed would eliminate internal ipod amplification and inherent distortion. I can't find an 8 pin male adapter (ipod input) to 1/8" stereo phono plug cable!? Is there such an animal

How do I make multiple screen recordings with the exact same portion of the screen

I can only select the portion of the screen to record manually. I want them all exactly the same so that when the videos are played sequentially, it all lines up.

I'm using quicktime and would ideally like to just stick with that if possible.

Avoid Unwanted/Blank Text Annotations in Preview.app

When opening a PDF in Yosemite's Preview.app, I can select text using the Text Selection tool from the Markup Toolbar. However, if I don't click directly on the text, a blank text box will appear. For some reason Preview thinks I want to add an annotation everywhere I click even though I have not selected the Text tool.

This is a problem in that it signals an edit to the document, thus changing the modification date and creating an auto-saved version with no meaningful changes.

In previous versions of OS X, I could have solved this problem by using: defaults write com.apple.Preview ApplePersistence -bool no. Yet this does not seem to have an effect in Yosemite.

Any workarounds?

Kotoeri doesn't work anymore in Mountain Lion

So the Kotoeri input method doesn't work anymore. I've selected Italian and Kotoeri with Hiragana, Katakana, Romaji and Full width Romaji. The first few times I switched from the usual Italian to Hiragana, it took 15 seconds to load (2008 model) but then it worked fine, converting letters to kana. But I don't know why it's not been working for days now: when I switch to Kotoeri it takes 15 seconds to load but then it simply type in Italian, and the text isn't even underlined (so it's not trying to convert to kana). I've tried to unselect-reselect it from the preferences but it won't fix. Can you help me?

Partition on External Hard Drive not showing in Finder

My external hard drive is partitioned into three parts - but somehow I made one of the parts go away/stop showing up in the Finder. I ran a set of recommended commands in terminal, and this is what I came up with:

"Rachel Reboot Backup" is the one that I'm trying to get to show up again in Finder/be restored. Any advice? Disk Utility says it is mounted, and it doesn't appear to be marked hidden...not sure what I did to it, but any help appreciated. Thanks!

I did a factory rest and still I don't see any changes. Before the factory rest, I tried to sync each album I and nothing.
