When importing, in iMovie 10.0.6, a video and then exporting (using the "Share" button) as a file, I realised that the new file is much bigger than the original (about 10 times bigger).
My question is how to export the file to original size (or equivalent) (i.e. using the same codecs I guess).

I have a iMac, an iPhone and a MacBook pro... I mostly use the notebook+iphone... I buy most of my itens using the notebook... today I decide to sync my iPhone to the mac... what I noticed is that a lot of songs that ARE on the phone did not get transferred to the mac... but some did...
why? how can I make all the songs in the phone "go" to the mac without re-download? (its about 3gb of videos-musics...)

I have 3 groups on a slide that I want to highlight 1 at a time. Is there a good way to do this? My slide has a gradient background so putting a rectangle over the objects and faking it mucking with their transparency doesn't seem like a good approach.
Is there a way to make objects start out opacified? If so, I can use the opacity action on the objects, but when I tried to use an opacity action, on transition, with duration 0, it didn't work. Having a short (0.1s) duration causes kind of a jarring flicker.
I also thought about using multiple slides with magic-move handling the opacity changes, but I didn't see a way to change the opacity of a group.
I'm running Keynote 6.5.2 on Yosemite (the most recent releases of both I believe).
My Extended Keyboard II with German layout connected via iMate works for all keys - except one: the ^ key (it is below the ⎋ Escape key and left to the 1). The key-switch is OK, the LED in the iMate lights up when pressing the key, but since 10.4 or so, it never worked. Must be something in the system keyboard layout detection! It also shows up as a small keyboard without number pad when displaying the layout.
BTW: It is a dead key, as is the ´. It does not work as a dead key, as well.
What a pity! I'd love to use that old keyboard again, it was the best Apple ever made. Any idea how to fix it? I'm currently on Yosemite.

Is there a way to combine two versions of the same Word for Mac 2011 into one document?
I have multiple revisions with comments from co-authors and would like to combine the documents with comments into one document.
Note: I am not interested in the insert file method that is used to insert a document into another document, essentially combing two documents into 1. I want to "merge" two versions into 1 version.
We bought a used iPhone 4s and couldn't activate because it was still linked to the original owner. We contacted him and copied/pasted how to deactivate and deleted the phone from his account. He went into his account and it doesn't show up there any more. What do we do now?
My first Bluetooth headphones ever (Amazon) just arrived today, and they work great on tests in YouTube and QuickTime, but for some reason, when I moved files to the Trash (and out again via Undo), the sound effects played at full volume out of the computer's built-in speakers. I've replicated this several times, and the issue persists even after relaunching Finder. As I was writing this, the "new email" notification sound just played out of the computer's speakers too! How can I fix this?

I'm having a weird problem that just started with my 2012 15" Retina Macbook Pro with Yosemite. The ability to tap and drag using the internal trackpad has stopped working. All the other gestures work just fine, including three finger drag (when I enable it - it's off by default) and two finger scrolling.
I can perform the gesture just fine using a wireless Magic Trackpad.
I've tried both SMC and PRAM resets and nothing helps. Anyone seen the same issue?
My husband and I both have our own account in Mac Mail. Using Yosemite. When someone sends an email to both our email addresses, it goes to his mailbox, but not mine, even though my address is also in the "To" space.
I recently asked a question on here and it led to me to the discovery of Picasa. Admittedly, iPhoto would've been much better, but I have a Windows laptop. Anyways, the only feature that I'm looking for is the geotagging feature. Picasa can do that but it's pretty lame. You can only do one picture at a time and it gives you latitudes and longitudes and an option for a map that you can open, but only on every individual picture. Is there any other program that has an interface that's more similar to the one on your iPhone? Where it can show you all the pictures in all of the locations at once, and once you zoom in the locations branch out?
Is there any way I can set up a keyboard shortcut to move full screen apps (i.e., desktops) between my main display and my external display in OS X 10.10? I know about tools like BetterSnapTool, but it looks like it doesn't support moving full screened windows between displays. I also tried TotalSpaces and SizeUp, but unless I missed something, no dice there either.
My problem is that I have several full screened VMs from VMWare, and every time I unplug and plug in my external display, they move from my external display to my main display, and it's a pain to drag them all back every time.
What I mean by this is that with a mouse, if you double click in the middle of a word (in any selectable piece of text) and then drag without releasing the second click, the word you double-clicked is snap selected or selected in whole and from then on, every word you drag over is also selected in whole.
But when you use a trackpad, double tapping simulates a single click and a dragging start, so I wonder how would one simulate a double click + drag.
Of course you can also click the trackpad as a regular mouse, so that's one way, but unfortunately mine got jammed somehow (and a hell of different size and shape screws is getting me from trying to fix it) so that won't work for me right now.

I have a 2013 MacBook Pro Retina which had a cup of tea spilled on it. The machine works perfectly except for the 3 key which is not responding. I've taken it in to an Apple Authorised Repair Centre who said they needed to replace the keyboard, battery etc to fix it at a cost of £600.
Is there any other way to get this single key working for less than £600?

I've used it with my iPhone, iPad Mini and Macbook Pro 2011 and all controls and microphone works great.
But if I try to use it with a Macbook Air, Pro Retina or a Mac Mini, the controls and microphone doesn't work at all.
Any idea?

In OSX, how do I have a true full screen? When I go to full screen mode, the tab and navigation bar are still showing. Those toolbars are annoying when I try to watch a movie, etc.

I would like Mail on Yosemite to load remote content from senders in my contacts and not for everyone else. I have remote content disabled now and I have pieced together an AppleScript to click the button but it doesn't seem to be working. Here's what I have:

Just encountered the issue for the first time on my six month old 13" MacBook Pro Retina (mid-2014). The issue also exists on another 13" rMBP (late-2013).
Used QuickTime with FingerMgmt to record the "touches" on the screen that show up in clamshell mode (HDMI, MagSafe, Bluetooth Magic Trackpad/Keyboard connected).

My first guess was the same as mentioned on a post by dshack titled "Retina 13" Macbook Pro has jumpy trackpad when used in clamshell mode" (to which I originally tried to post this as a reply): that some kind of electrical interference was causing the rogue taps and clicks. Restarting and disconnecting external peripherals did not help, however, so it has to be something else.
Some googling resulted in these interesting posts. It seems like this is either a result of substances building up in or around the trackpad or physical dislocation of the trackpad module itself. Maybe even a manufacturing defect that wasn't reported enough by consumers for a solution to be implemented in later models, especially since I have observed the issue in both my mid-2014 and late-2013 models.
Again, I never had any issues with the trackpad on my rMBP whilst using it in clamshell mode with an external monitor and peripherals until just a few minutes ago.
Anyone have comments or solutions?

Neither of them have the ability to find a wifi network anymore.
They have SIM cards in the, but the SIM cards are disabled (not activated by a carrier). Technically that should be unrelated, as they are different antennaes.
I am concerned Apple does this to all old phones to incentivise people to upgrade.

Is there a way to initiate a FaceTime call but block my identity from the person I'm making the call to? Reason: my daughter has lost her privilege to use FaceTime, but I looked at her Apple account a few minutes ago and it said that her iPhone was using FaceTime at the moment. Has anyone tried to use codesign to self-sign a previously-unsigned kext for personal use under Yosemite (10.10)? Self-signing is discussed in this apple technote, but not for kernel extensions specifically.
In my case, I have an unsigned kext that I'm willing to trust, but I also like the idea of the safety net only loading signed kexts provides in the general case. I'd rather specifically allow this one that I trust rather than just turn off verification wholesale with the dev mode boot option.

I want to import photos I made on an iPhone to a MacBook so that I can, firstly, keep a copy on the phone (to be able to quickly show photos to someone), and, secondly, to be able to delete photos from one device and get those photos deleted on the other. In other words, I want the photos synchronised between these devices.

I think I may have misunderstood something — in my opinion photo synchronisation should be a somewhat simpler task. I am also quite new to Apple stuff and thus I'm a bit confused with all these different terms; I am more accustomed to simple file operations as on Linux and pre–synchronisation era Windows operating systems.
What would be my options please? For now, I'm more inclined to ditch the whole idea of synchronisation and just copy my photos to the laptop (and maybe delete the sources on the phone).

I usually have a no signal case. Is it because of the version update? If not, what could it be and what should I do?? Please help me.
I am trying to use the Audio MIDI Setup program to aggregate two USB Sennheiser PC8 stereo headsets so I can use both simultaneously on Skype calls and GarageBand recordings. So far I am only able to use one at a time by deselecting the other USB device under the newly created aggregate device. How can I get both two work at the same time!?

I was playing around with Apple's Testflight lately. Everything works fine, I can upload and test my app internally. However, I stumbled about something curious while looking into it.
I looked at the traffic generated by the Testflight app and noticed that it is requesting the IPA to install from phobos.apple.com. However, the server's response doesn't seem to be a valid zip archive/IPA. When I download the IPA manually, I can neither install nor unzip it. It seems to be corrupt.
On further inspection it looks like this IPA is indeed a zip archive (there are the local file headers, central directory entries, and the EOCD header, as well as most of the filenames in plaintext). A lot of things don't make any sense though. For example, the EOCD header states that there are 38 central directory entries, but when searching for the central directory headers, I only find 32 occurences. Additionally, some of the file names are partly scrambled.
All things considered, it looks like some parts of the zip archive are somehow scrambled/encrypted. By running some experiments with different filenames I was able to determine that the binary data seems to be partitioned into blocks of 512 byte, with the first 112 bytes being scrambled, seemingly meaningless data and the remaining 400 bytes is just regular plaintext/zip data.
I couldn't determine yet how exactly the data is scrambled, just that a different "key" is used for each block. Right now I suspect, it's some kind of protection mechanism to prevent unauthorized installations.
But why would Apple implement it this way? Why not just encrypt the file? Is this maybe some kind of integrated checksum mechanism?
If anybody can tell me more about what's going on here, or can point me to some resources I'm missing, I would really like to know more about this..
Normally,when I want to delete parts of a text messages, I press on the message and "copy/more" is displayed, I press on "more" and tick the relevant text messages to delete, the trash bin appears in bottom left corner and you can delete. However it only works the first time the phone is switched on, if you want to do this a 2nd time when you press "more" and tick the relevant text messages to delete, the trash bin in the bottom left is gone and the camera is still displayed. You can still delete the entire conversation (which I don't want to do), or to switch phone off and back on again - then it works just once and vanishes again. Anyone else encountered the same problem?

I am using the iCloud Drive, and sometimes the name of an app folder is too clumsy and too long to own a place on the Finder sidebar. Per the previous attempts by others, the Finder sidebar uses only the original folder name, but ignore the alias name for all its items. So using alias isn't a viable approach to workaround the name of app containers.
As known from the iCloud Programming Guide, the name of the app containers is actually specified by a key in the app-provided plist. The file hierarchy of the iCloud Drive does prove this, but the plist doesn't seem storing together with the Documents folder for each app. Is there a way to change it?
Macbook Pro 2009 running Yosemite. Been slow last couple of years or so. Got 30 GB left out of 500 GB hard drive. Opening an app can take minutes and dozens of icon bounces. I shutdown and restart quite often, and run CleanMyMac once a month or so. Those actions only temporarily help before the beachball comes back again. Would replacing my HDD with a new one speed laptop up like new? I though of replacing with SSD but ilthose are still quite expensive. Thank you
Just yesterday I finally got my hands on a Macbook Pro in which I was planning to install Ubuntu and Windows aside from Mac for studying purposes. I was barely beginning by partitioning the disk, or at least attempting to do so and found myself not being able to take advantage of most functions of Disk Utility like in the picture below:

I figured that it might be a bad PMBR. From all accounts, this is just an MBR with a non-bootable partition in it. I created an HFS disk on a USB stick, and copied the MBR (dd if=/dev/disk7 count=1 of=/dev/disk6) to the ailing disk.
I used R-Studio to scan the disk. R-Studio finds files and directories and such.
Ran TestDisk (separate command line disk utility) It's numbers agreed with GPT's.
I then used dd to make a backup of the first 34 blocks of the disk, and used gpt to destroy and recreate the partition table.

Where can I find or how can I extract the Mail and Messages icons, both 140x140 in size, that are displayed on iPhone 6 Plus.
If you have the device, you can find them in /Applications/MobileMail.app and /Applications/MobileSMS.app respectively. For jailbroken users, use iFile, Filza or i-FunBox.
By the way, these icons are so I can do my WinterBoard theme.
Problem with mac is that it allows space character at end of file or folder. If this file or folder with space character in end is beeing copied to FTP using Filezilla or Dropbox then mac makes folders with "Foldername_WhiteSpaceConflict" To get rid of this problem all files and folders with space character needs to be renamed without space character. What solution could be the best using terminal or some program?
I am using tikona broadband internet and they usually have a 5 IP address restriction. I managed to by pass that by using a linksys router WRT120N . I setup the router to distribute IP addresses as 192.168.1.2-20.
However, when i am connecting my new time capsule, it seems to distribute IPs from DHCP as 10.x.x.2 onwards only.
How do i set up the time capsule so that it takes 10.x.x.x a its IP from DHCP and distributes over the network IPs as 192.168.1.X onwards?
That is also needed so that i will not have to login on each individual device with the ISP username and password on their website.
when I put a scheduled remainder with a daily repeat mode, it won't dismiss.
it keeps on showing and just changes the date to the next day
is this a bug or a feature?

my FileVault says that I have to wait for 43 days for it to finish optimizing something. As soon as I launch any application it stops working. So the only time that I can dedicate for the FileVault to finish optimizing is 8-12 hours of night which makes 43 days in reality 86 days. The readings are always jumping, one time you might see 3532 days remaining but never goes below 20 days.
Maybe someone has stumbled upon this problem previously?

How do I completely remove Guided Access passcode? What I want is that it enters and leaves just with the three clicks and nothing else.
But every time I activate it, it prompts me to set a passcode which I don't want. I also made the mistake of setting one, and now I can't get rid of it.

I am still a beginner with using terminal. I am trying to ssh from my mac at home to a linux at my university. I am using VPN to connect to the network. When I ping the IP address of the computer I want to connect to it responds. I can connect when I am on campus, but not when I'm off. When I try ssh -v username@IP this is what I get:

Any help would be much appreciated.
Whenever I try to connect to a remote server using SSH, I get an error "ssh: connect to host x.x.x.x port 22: Connection refused"
I didn't install a Firewall or something similar. I know for sure the server is online and my credentials are valid - I am able to connect to the server using my (Android) phone or other devices.
Is there any way that connections are blocked by the System? This also happens for some other applications on different ports and servers.
Do you have any ideas how I can troubleshoot the problem? I can browse the Internet without any problems, but SSH and some other applications can't connect to different servers with different ports, including a Usenet client.
Happens on a Macbook Pro Late 2011 using MacOSX Yosemite.
