iTunes not showing correct Podcasts on iPod Touch Gen 5

I'm currently using a 32GB Gen 5 iPod touch. My problem is that when I connect my iPod to iTunes, it does not show the correct podcast on iTunes. For example, I have 11 episodes of the Serial podcast, and I can see in the podcast app, but when I connect to iTunes, they do not show up in iTunes. It also does other things, like show I have an unplayed podcast, even though I have finished and deleted the podcast through the app.
