Imessage hacking

I recently found a rather romantic exchange on my boyfriend's iPad. He insists that he does not have any record of this exchange on his iPhone (which is linked to his iPad) nor does he know the phone number that sent the messages. The iPad has the other person initiating the conversation and his responses. Is it possible that he was hacked, or is he simply lying?

shotdetect fatal libpng error gd-png error: setjmp returns error condition

I downloaded shotdetect and followed this guide to install it on OSX Yosemite 10.10.1 .

When I try to run shotdetect, it appears to run through the entire video file, but then fails towards the end. I get a results.xml output, which is what I care most about, but I can't tell if it's complete or not.

This is the error I get:

GD Error: gd-png: fatal libpng error: Wrote palette index exceeding num_palette
GD Warning: gd-png error: setjmp returns error condition

Below is the entire terminal output for a sample video file. Note that 'shotdetect' is simply a bash alias and is not causing the issue. I get the same issue when I call shotdetect directly.

How do I move OS X server to a new Mac

Our fully operational Internet-facing OS X Server with its own OD Master needs to be moved to a new Mac with newer, larger disks. How do we achieve this with the minimum disruption to our users?

Would this strategy work?

1. Temporarily take the old machine offline whilst we 'recover' the old OS X Server to the new Mac either from Time Machine or directly from the old machine.


2. Put the new machine online with the same network name and ip number as the old machine?

Is undoing Yosemite's CoreStorage conversion dangerous?

I tried to make an 8 GB partition on my hard drive so I could make it into a bootable drive, like Recovery HD but without the need to redownload the OS, but for some reason Disk Utility wouldn't let me make a partition smaller than around 40ish GB. After some trial and error in an effort to make a partition of no more than 8 GB, I wound up with quite a bit of unused free space.

I entered a bootable USB drive, prepared to wipe my HD into one volume and restore everything from a backup, but then I encountered this method for reclaiming free space that had me revert my HD back to its non-CoreStorage state. It worked perfectly to reclaim the free space and enable me to specify a disk partition size, but it seems too good to be true. (As in, I wasn't expecting it to be this easy so now I'm scared.)

My question: Is there an important reason why Yosemite always converts hard drives to CS volumes, such that undoing the conversion could come back to haunt me in the future? If so, how do I go back to CS?

Mac OSX 10.10 Removing ~/tmp folder removed all data and rested osx

I asked this question on superuser but I am putting it here as well as I am big trouble. I was trying remove data from my own created temp folder under home directory but I accidentally ended up deleting default tmp directory under home. ~/tmp . And to my deepest shock it wiped out pretty much everything! Nothing in trash. All my documents, downloads, pictures, projects . GONE! I dont have time machine back up as well. but i dont understand what the hell happen when I deleted that tmp folder! I remember it used to have some 'npm-*' files/folders. How the hell it got power to wipe out everything? Off course I used 'sudo' but so do I used it millions times at work on linux and this never happened. How do I recover from this? this was the command that wrack havock sudo rm -rf * tmp/

Mac terminal user name becomes bogon and traceroute is strange

I was doing some traceroute test yesterday, and today, my Mac terminal's user prompt becomes

`bogon:~ myUserName$`

Also when I'm doing traceroute like:

traceroute www.google.com

it stops with this log:

bogon (192.168.0.1)  1.158 ms  0.908 ms  0.746 ms

192.168.0.1 is the address of my wireless router. I still can surf the internet though.

How can I automate pasting of password into SecurityAgent?

On OS X 10.8.x I had an Automator service set up to paste a password from clipboard into the password window that pops up for mounting an encrypted disk.

I don't wish to store the password in my keychain, and it is long and tedious to type out.

I never got the applescript within the Automator service quite right. It would generate an error, but it still got the job done (i.e. the password was pasted). Since upgrading to Yosemite it seems the script in the Automator service doesn't work at all. The error generated indicates "window 1" doesn't exist.

Here is what I had:

I know very little about AppleScript, and would appreciate some help fine tuning (or completely rewriting) this script so that it does the following:

1. Checks there is data in the clipboard


2. Checks the SecurityAgent window is active (or in some way ensures it can be interacted with, to avoid generating an error)


3. Pastes the content of clipboard


4. Clicks the 'Unlock' button

I don't know if it is possible, but it would be handy if it also brought 1Password to the foreground and activated "Copy password" (which is a menu option in the "Items" menu). I can, however, have Automator actions perform that task. But it would be nice to see (for learning) how to achieve that with AppleScript.

Command Line Tool has been installed but "No receipt for 'com.apple.pkg.CLTools_Executables' found at '/'"

The No receipt for 'com.apple.pkg.CLTools_Executables' found at '/' error occurs when I type pkgutil --pkg-info=com.apple.pkg.CLTools_Executables on my terminal.

Some posts on the internet tells me that this happens when the command line tool has not been installed on Xcode.

But, I've installed CLT already:

I'm guessing the cause of the problem might be having executed following command several hours ago so as to eliminate warnings of brew doctor: $ /Developer/Library/uninstall-developer-folder

Actually, I encountered this problem on make all to install some library and hope to resolve the issue to install it.

OS is mountain lion and the version of XCode is 5.1.1.

command not found after creating symbolic link

I've tried three different ways to create a symbolic link to Sublime Text on my Mac and, after restarting terminal each time, it still keeps telling me command not found. I'm using a Mac with Yosemite (OSX Yosemite, 10.10). How can I create a symbolic link so I can open Sublime with the sub command?

Alternative to Personal Blocklist for Safari

I’d want to filter a bunch of spammy sites from the search results on Google, just like the Personal Blocklist extension does on Chrome, is there an alternative to Google’s Personal Blocklist extension for Safari?

Email photos in full resolution from iPhone 6 running iOS 8

iPhone 6 running iOS 8.1.3. How do I email photos with full resolution. I go to Photos, select some photos, pick Mail, then compose the email. No where in "New Message" does it give me an option to pick the resolution. Once I press send the email is sent with the photos at 1280x960.

Will OS X ever install anything suspicious without my express permission?

I clicked a link (turned out to be Breitbart) that said "your Flash is not updated", despite the fact that I just installed it yesterday. The two choices were "Update" and "Ok". Strangely, there was no ability to simply dismiss the popup without clicking one of those buttons. I should have force quit Safari, but instead I clicked "Ok". Then it tried to download something! I immediately dragged it to the trash, but when I tried to empty the trash it said that file was in use! I don't recall clicking on it or giving it any instructions to open so I immediately pulled the plug on the computer. I was able to delete it once I restarted.

Three questions:

1) Why did the computer download software from a random site without being given permission?

2) Why did it say the file was in use when I very clearly did not open it up?

3) Can the Mac actually install this kind of garbage without my permission?

Use fswatch to make files that changed

I am using the following command to run make automatically when less files in my project change. But right now make runs on all the files whenever any file changes. Is there a way to make only the changed file?

fswatch -0 *.less | xargs -0 -n1 -I{} make

Problems with Logitech G402 buttons

I recently bought Logitech G402 and I've got some problems with its customising. I use OS X.

Apple's mouse can, for instance, swipe between full-screens. I want to bind two side buttons for those gestures.

Also I need this buttons for games. The only thing that I can do is to bind a key from the keyboard in the game and bind the same key for the side button. But I hope, that I can make some kind of "free" button which would be perceived by the game. Like in the image (mouse1, mouse 2).

How to disable Private Browsing in Safari on a 10.8.3 without Xcode

I am trying to delete Safari Private Browsing on a 10.8.3. It requires the Xcode App that is only available for 10.9.4 or later. Is there another App I can use or some other way around this that will allow me to disable the Private Browsing? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Cannot access Google services through HTTP (only HTTPS)

I recently reformatted my hard drive and installed OS X 10.10 Yosemite on my Late 2013 Macbook Pro.

So far everything's great, but within the last two days I haven't been able to access any google services through HTTP. Websites that access ajax.googleapi.com or fonts.googleapi.com load extremely slow (because they have to timeout first) and Google, YouTube, Google+, none of it will load unless I put https:// in the front of the URL.

I can't explain this behavior, and was hoping perhaps someone here could.

Remove partition and restore the space without erasing

Time ago I split the hard drive (500gb) in two partitions (250 each), now I don't need them anymore, so I have first erased successfully one partition and now I have still the second one (Mac HD 2)

What I need now is to reapply the 250 gb I have gained from deleting to the Mac HD2, how is it possible? I am in the situation that I don't want erase it but I need the 250 gb left there.

How do I notify a blocked caller that he has been blocked on my iphone5

I have an iPhone 5 and have blocked a person who is harassing me via my txt messages. I do not have a phone number for this person as he is texting me via iMessage with his email address. This person lives in Norway and I in the US. I have researched and have found that when blocking a caller on an iPhone the caller will NOT be notified that he has been blocked. He will receive a "message sent" notification on his end. I do not want this caller to have the satisfaction of thinking that I have received his message. I also do not want him to have the satisfaction of receiving a text from me telling him that he has been blocked. I would like for him to receive a message notifying that he has been blocked immediately after he sends me a txt. Is there any way to accomplish this task?? My husband says that I should let u know that my software is IOS8. Thanks so much!!

HTTP music stream app for Iphone?

I have an mpd music server set up on a remote server to stream http music data on port 8000. I'm having trouble finding an app on the store that will server as a client music player for this http stream. Can anyone suggest a good app to use as a client? Given I have Wifi connection, it should correctly (as in, not be choppy) play music through my iPhone.

All downloaded files cannot be opened as they are 'damaged and should be moved to the Trash'

Everything I download will not open. OS X says the file is damaged and can't be opened and should be moved to the Trash. Like Adobe Reader, for PDF documents. JPEG files will not open. Office files will not open. Yet the thumbnail preview is perfect and I can flip the pages to see the information is there. I tried to download OpenOffice for the Office documents but it says the same thing, damaged, cannot open, should be moved to the Trash.

I have U2's Songs of Innocence in My Libray of my iTunes. I have a PC. How do I transfer/sync this album to my iPod? Clicking the "sync" button does not do it; it only syncs up all other albums. And, I have an iPod 5th Generation, not and iPod Touch.

Documents app hangs on file browser. How to export it's files w/o jailbreak?

I used Documents app by Readdle, but now when I open it, it shows me the last document I was reading. When I try to switch back to file browser, it hangs, and I can't press anything. The question is how can I save my files and reinstall the app? Currently it has no updates on App Store.

I tried to use ifunbox and iTunes, but i can only see the "Inbox" folder which is empty. Device is not jailbroken.

PS. This probably happens because the document's name contains unsupported characters.

Photos Beta - Edit 'Taken' Date

Have anyone figured out how to change the 'taken' date on imported pictures in the new Photo app?

(I have old pictures imported that have missing or wrong 'taken' date for different reasons, there must be a feature to edit this metadata in the app somewhere)

"powerd" process uses a lot of CPU

Oftentimes, after I wake my Mac from sleep, powerd (which is the power management daemon? Which in particular deals with sleeping the Mac and waking it?) uses high CPU, usually around 25% to 50% on my i7 CPU.

Anyone know how I can find out what's causing it, and what I can do to fix it? It seems to be a problem with waking from sleep but I don't know what.

I am trying to set up a calendar event in my iPhone 6. I key the entry in and hit add but it's not added to my calendar. What am I doing wrong?

How to REALLY update Java?

System preferences tells me that I have Java 8 Update 40 on my Mac Book Pro. However, Eclipse IDE complains that it needs at least version 1.7 or greater. And on the console, java -version tells me, I have version 1.6.0_65.

Torrenting slows down my network speed

I've noticed that when I have Transmission running my network speed becomes very slow. Even if I'm only uploading data (the same is true even if the upload rate is low as 5KB/sec) via Transmission the download speed becomes very slow throughout the computer. It doesn't mattet if I'm browsing using Safari, streaming music in iTunes, if a software is upgrading itself etc they all become slow. As soon as I close Transmission everything speeds up again.

I'm connected through my Airport time capsule.

I have just started using Mac OS X 2016 outlook for my emails.

How can I set outlook to delete my messages from the server when I delete the email?

I have found a few answers on the web where they say to click on advanced however I cannot find it. I am not sure if this is because Mac OS X is different. This is why I am asking here.

Recover corrupted Mac HFS+ drive (image) under Linux

I'm trying to recover an apparently corrupted disk. It appears that through improper shutdown the drive has been somehow killed. It's the main partition of a Macbook Pro.

I've used dd to copy the drive to an external hard drive, and now I'm trying to mount it under linux (Ubuntu) to retrieve whatever I can. (I can also try from another Mac.)

Application access gone

I have inadvertently deleted my applications folder from the dock. I tried accessing the application icon in a finder window. I tried to drag it down to the dock. I did so to the lower left hand of the screen and now the application icon went away with a cloud image. Now I have no access to my applications. How do I recover access to applications???

My iPhone 4 has stopped letting me add events, though they are appearing on my iPad calendar when I input them on the iPhone. I have tried switching the iPhone off and changing settings - neither worked. There are no other programs trying to use the calendar.ideas please.
