iMessage and facetime not displaying my number

I have an iPhone 5 running iOS 7.1.2, I recently turned off the iMessage and FaceTime and then ejected my SIM card and inserted SIM card of another network. After few hours I again switched my SIM again to previous network.

After that I am trying to activate my iMessage and FaceTime but no luck. It is not displaying my number in address. I checked my number in Phone but there my number is correct.

I have tried network reset, phone reset, hard reset, turning on and off both services but no luck. How do I go back to using FaceTime and iMessage on my original network?

Myriad of (relatively minor) issues on my rMBP in the last few days

Not sure how to generalize this, but my rMBP 15" 2014 has started having several weird issues in the past few days:

• Typing freezes (briefly) in Notes


• Searching “Keychain” from spotlight returns some results but NOT “Keychain Access”


• Xcode stops building files because “too many open files on system”, fixed by restart


• Mail autocomplete doesn’t work -> Restart Mail, freezes on open -> Restart again, same -> Open Internet Accounts in System Prefs, freezes -> Restart computer, works


• Beachball opening folder from Dock -> Downloads (about 10 seconds)

None of these issues seems to stay for long. For example, if I search Spotlight for "Keychain" now, it returns the correct result.

More info, I'm running 10.10.1, 16gb RAM, my 500gb hard drive is about 2/5 free. I clean installed Yosemite about 6 months ago too.

Does anyone know this might be? Hardware issue, like failing motherboard or something? Or (hopefully) some kind of software bug?

Is it possible to permanently disable firefox fullscreen feature?

My iMac is an old model, the first one to have a Core2Duo chip and it only gets to Snow Leopard.

Since Firefox 32, it always (or most of the time) starts in fullscreen and it's really annoying. Is there a way to disable it for good?

Thunderbolt to HDMI (Not DisplayPort to HDMI)

My first question is do Thunderbolt to HDMI adapters exist? The reason I'm specifying Thunderbolt and not DisplayPort is because I have a Belkin Thunderbolt2 Dock. If I use a MDP>HDMI adapter and the HDMI port on the unit, only one display works. However, after borrowing my friend's Elgato Thunderbolt dock and connecting it to the TB port on the Belkin dock, I could use the HDMI port on each dock on both monitors, no issue.

I would hate to have to buy two docks to set up my docked setup, but I could if I absolutely have to. The reason I want this to work is because I have a HengeDock for my laptop, and the HDMI port is inaccessible from the dock since it points upright.

Worst case, I guess I could get another DP to HDMI adapter, but that would occupy my other thunderbolt port, and my TB external does not have a daisy chain connector.

iPhone - How to set up not requiring passcode if recently closed

I have an iPhone with iOS 8. Is there a way to setup my phone where it doesn't require a passcode to unlock if it has been closed in the last 5 (or some amount) minutes?

I know that my computer has a 15min feature.

OS X Service Packs?

I'm trying to get the Mindstorms software on my MacBook, and this is part of the requirements:

Mac 10.6, 10.7, and 10.8 with the latest service packs

What are the service packs it is talking about? Were they on older versions of OS X, but not on the current version? I'm confused because I thought service packs were a Microsoft thing.

EDIT: I'm currently running 10.10.1 (Yosemite).

Why is my startup disk so full?

I've been getting messages recently that "My startup disk is almost full," and I'm quite sure I haven't used the full 250GB of my Macbook's hard drive. Using "Get Info" on Macintosh HD says that I'm using around 245GB (aka 5GB from being full), but I have no idea what could be using that much space. My home directory (with Photos, Movies, Downloads, etc.) is only around 34GB. Applications? only 11.

In fact, I looked into it using a disk sweeping application, and it profiled my hard drive as only having 65.1GB in total! Where are the other ~200GB? What's filling them?

(I did search using Finder for files over 1GB, and there were only a few, so I don't think the problem is one massive file).

On iOS, do "Automatic Downloads" (incl. Music, Apps, Books, Updates) download on public or slow WiFi networks?

If I have "Automatic Downloads" enabled for some or all of the categories (Music, Apps, Books, Updates), then these items will download when available, while I'm connected to my home's WiFi network.

I enabled these settings recently, so I'm not quite sure on this yet, but if I'm connected to a public network, then will they still download? Because public WiFi networks are often quite slow, so I think the downloads might stall. Is it possible to instead keep these options enabled, but prevent downloads from taking place on WiFi networks that are not my home network?

Or at worst, if a download stalls and I can no longer connect to WiFi again, then is there a way to revert an update that only downloaded halfway? Would restarting my device do the trick?

I have 2 coc accounts on one gamecenter and I don't know how to make the second one that I made the main one

So my brother made his coc first then I made mine on the same gamecenter so I'm wondering how to put my coc on a different device because it when ever I go to link a device it says to login to the gamecenter attached to my village but that is the gamecenter I was signed into when i made my coc. So how do I put link my iPod to my new phone?

Finding CodeBlocks that works or fixing bugs?

I am using Codeblocks to develop C++ code on OSX Mavericks. I am currently running into the problem where the software occasionally will crash and than continue to crash every time the software is started again. I know for this software package there is a bunch of different sources: code blocks pre built apt, mac port version, and I believe even a version you can download through svn or git hub which is the nightly build.

Additionally, I also have problems with the auto complete sometimes not working.

Can someone recommend a version that worked for them with a reasonable explanation on how to install it? Or, if you had similar issues with code blocks, how you went about fixing the bugs?

By the way I am using the pre built 32 bit apt from code blocks website.

How to remap F4 to Dashboard or Notifications on a MacBook Pro in Yosemite?

I had this working fine in Tiger thru Mavericks, but it broke in Yosemite. Pressing F4 now launches Launchpad, and only fnF4 triggers Dashboard.

Launchpad is useless compared to Spotlight or even the Dock. I'd much rather have the F4 key triggering Dashboard again, or even Notifications (which is really starting to come along).

I have:

• System Prefs / Mission Control / Keyboard and Mouse Shortcuts / Show Dashboard set to F4.


• Syst Prefs / Keyboard / Keyboard / Use all F-keys as standard function keys unticked.


• Syst Prefs / Keyboard / Shortcuts / Launchpad & Dock / Show Launchpad unticked.


• Syst Prefs / Keyboard / Shortcuts / Mission Control / Show Dashboard set to F4.

Ideas? Hopeless? Thanks!

2014 13" Retina MacBook Pro Mac OS X v10.1 Yosemite (14B25)

I don't know why my retina MacbookPro keeps crashing and how to fix

My mid2014 retina pro keeps crashing, can't boot into safe mode and can't choose utilities when booting into recovery mode because no mouse commands are accepted. (not sure what key combo would choose a utility such as disk recovery) it resolves itself over time--not sure how.

I Kept the log from last night's crash == 92 pages so i tried to post what might be relevant but i really have no idea. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance

VLC on windows 8.1 can't open files on iMac

I have an iMac running Mavericks. My music files (mp3) are stored on this machine. I also have a windows 8.1 laptop running VLC media player. I can access files on the iMac from the windows machine over my local home network using windows explorer with no problem. However VLC running on my windows 8.1 machine cannot access the files on my imac: I get an error saying "VLC cannot access the MRL."

Using VLC I can access and play music files stored on any of my windows machines, so it is not a problem with vlc getting through the firewall on my windows 8.1 machine. It seems the iMac is refusing access to VLC, though it allows access to windows explorer, ping etc.

How can I open these files?

Update: I tried different music apps running on my windows 8.1 machine besides VLC. Boom.exe and MPC-HC were not able to play the files stored on the imac (though they could both see and select them) but windows media player could see and successfully play the files.

Iphoto 9.6 and OX Yosemite 10.10.1

I have created an iPhoto slideshow and posted it to iCloud with public access. I now want to remove a photo. I went back to the slideshow source list in iPhoto and when i click on the slideshow button, it shows there but when i double-click it to get the photo browser and choose the appropriate slideshow, it plays, no thumbnail pictures show so that i can delete.

Disable notification center in Yosemite

These solutions disable the notification panel, but, in Yosemite, the notification icon of the menu bar is still there.

How can I remove the menu bar icon ?

I know the bartender software can do that but I am looking for a solution which does not require addind another app.

Playing and editing DV-AVI files on a Mac

I have loads of video files thet I have transferred from MiniDV tapes and onto my computer. I used firewire cable and something called WinDV to transfer them, and as far as I know they are saved in the DV-AVI type 2 format. I copied the files onto an external hard drive for a friend, to edit on his Mac. But there is a problem. The files are there, but won't open on the Mac. They play fine on all my PCs. What do we do? Is this a file type incompatibility issue, or a software issue, or what? I was under the impression that the files on MiniDV tapes are natively DV-AVI (or is this wrong?), do you have to convert these to MOV or something while transferring if they are going to be used on a Mac? What do we do?

How do I set up my 12 year olds iPhone 4S using her iCloud family account?

I just got a new iPhone 5 and transferred my old number contacts etc.

They wiped my 4S and set it up with a new number. I created my 12 year old a new iCloud account under the family setting.

When I enter that into the phone under Sign in with your Apple ID when setting up the phone it says: Can't Create Apple ID.

But if I go into my Apple ID and iCloud. Both my 10 and 12 year old are getting iPads for Christmas so this will be a problem again if we can't get them signed in under their iCloud accounts.

Why does iOS need to refresh when I come back to a page?

Is there any way to not have an app (browser, gmail, Facebook) refresh when coming back to it?

I don't understand where this behavior comes from or why it would be desirable.

Automate/wrap a few SH scripts in one - Deploystudio

Right now I have a few .sh scripts that are being deployed via Deploystudio. I've created seperate scripts and tasks for each command. Though, it doesn't really function. The logs tell me that I need to specify each location for each script.

I want to know: Isn't it possible to execute all these scripts at the same time in either one scripts or package/automator. So that it looks like these scripts are running like in terminal.

My MacBook Pro 13' wont connect to the wifi

my name is Akira, so my Macbook Pro was broken and i had to fix it at a apple support, after it got fixed i noticed that the wifi symbol is not showing up on top of the upper taskbar, i opened system preferences and went to network, i soon noticed that the wifi and the bluetooth tab is gone, it shows only ethernet and firewire, so i set a service order and no wifi tab pops up, only the ethernet tab and the firewire tab. m

In my observation not all of them fails all the time, but it does give rather hard time on my machine.

I tried to reload the modules with launchctl, but does not make a difference.

Do you believe those modules are duplicated with the new OS's modules and hance not needed? Can I safely remove them or repair the OS ?

Any suggestions how to deal with the problem are welcome.

Up Arrow Key Shows Application Windows (without having set it up as a shortcut)

I'm using OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 and whenever I press my up arrow key, mission control will display the application windows while also performing whatever action the up key is expected to (e.g. move the cursor up in a text field).

I checked the mission control and keyboard preferences and made sure that the up key wasn't mapped to any shortcut. When I found that there was no problem there, I tried unchecking the "application windows" shortcut in System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts > Mission Control then tried pressing the up key and it played the alert sound and still performed the expected action.

Then I went to System Preferences > Mission Control and found that there's no way to even map the up key to a shortcut there.

So I'm really confused as to where this shortcut is set and it is a really annoying problem, anybody know where how this could be happening despite not being set in System Preferences? Is this simply a bug that has been/will be resolved in an update

(it seems like too major of a problem to make its way into a release though)?

How is it possible to remotely access photos on iPhone?

Is there any software to do so, and what would it take to install it?

Another person had physical access to my phone, so I suspect the possibility of installation of such software.

Even photos which I immediately deleted and those, which went straight to application got in other hands.

I have an iPhone 4s. It was not jailbroken (at least, by me), and it did not appear such: no Cydia app or other oddities.

Photo Stream and iCloud backup for photos were also off, and I never used them.

HTML5 iPad app not working on iPad1

I recently developed a phonegap HTML5 app and it is working fine on my iPad 2's and android devices. When I install the app onto my iPad 1's the app installs, the icon disappears, then after rebooting the icon is back and looks as if it is installed.

I can launch the app, and the splash screen is displayed, then the app just closes.

Here are my deployment settings - I'm quite new to this, so if there are any relevant settings you need to know about, let me know and I'll update my post.

Point iTunes to restored content after PC crash

After my PC died I have started to restore my data from backup. I have backed up the entire iTunes folder and successfully restored it. I do not put my content in the standard location...I do not put it on the Windows drive for example. Now that I have reinstalled iTunes, how do I tell it to use the content I restored? Right now it just shows all my music as existing on the cloud.

I'm on Windows 7 64-bit and I have the latest version of iTunes. I do not have iTunes match.

Cannot upgrade mac mini

I have a Mac Mini, running OS X 10.7.5, and I try to upgrade it, but I cannot for some reason (in short - I want to install the new XCode and code in Swift).

When I click the "Free upgrade" button nothing happens (pic below). I have triple checked Little Snitch that nothing is blocking the App store or something similar, but found nothing.

Any suggestions.

Why are my Events in iOS 8 iPhoto in a completely random order?

Since upgrading to iOS 8, I've noticed that the Events list inside iPhoto is no longer in reverse chronological order. In fact, it's not in any order at all. This makes the Events system almost completely useless for me.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Is it a bug, or is there a setting I need to configure?

Is Bluetooth and Wifi MAC address always sequential?

This is related to the iPhone and iPad. Every single device I came across has sequential bluetooth and wifi mac addresses. Except for one device and I think it might be jailbroken I am not sure (it was a friend's phone). Is this always correct? Every iPhone/iPad has sequential mac addresses except for the jailbroken ones? If not is there a pattern between bluetooth and wifi mac address?

Syncing reminders with colors and sorting via Exchange?

I noticed that iOS reminders sync nicely via iCloud. Even the order and color codes get synced between all devices, Mac, and even the web interface.

However when using an Exchange server, I don't get the color codes nor the sorting. Is this a limitation of the protocol? Can I work around this, or am I missing something?

I want to see the exact commands of some processes in activity monitor, as most linux process monitor can do. Is it possible with activity monitor?

FileVault Stuck on Pause

I just got a new 13" rMBP with Yosemite installed. I chose to enable FileVault when I set the machine up.

Now, several days later, an app called "Reverting from FileVault" shows on the list of apps consuming a lot of energy. [Edit: this app no longer shows up; everything else in this post is still true.]

I check FileVault in System Preferences, and it says "Encryption paused," followed by "Connect power adapter to resume encryption." Connecting the power adapter makes no difference, even though the machine recognizes that it's charging.

I've tried resetting the SMC, clearing the PRAM, going into Recovery Mode, repairing the disk and repairing permissions. Nothing has worked. I can't stop FileVault from Terminal, and when I try to enable it, it says it's already on:

Trouble with iCloud siggning request

How can I keep my iPad from asking me to log in to iCloud? I don't want anything to do with iCloud and I don't want to be constantly hounded by Apple to log in.

Mac WiFi sharing doesn't allow LAN discovery?

I've been using Mac Mini for a few years as a WiFi router by enabling network sharing over WiFi. Everything until now has worked fine.

The problem is that my MBP can't auto discover shared folders on the Mini, even though it comes up on the MBP's "Shared" list in Finder. When I click on the Mini in the MBP's finder, it tries to connect but then ends with a "Connection failed" message. However, if I try to connect manually using the "Connect to Server" command in Finder, it works fine.

Another possible symptom is that my iPhone4S when connected to the same WiFi network can't automatically find the MBP, at least when using apps that have local sync capabilities.

I've checked to make sure all the network settings are the same on the MBP and the iPhone when connecting to the WiFi network. The Macs are running the latest Yosemite and the iPhone's running the latest IOS 8.

Anyone having the same issues?
