Time Machine Backup to Airport Time Capsule

When I backup using time machine to my Time Capsule, does this use network bandwidth? I'm uncertain as I could see it creating some sort of ad-hoc network between the computer and the disc to do the back up but I'm completely unsure. Just don't want to be backing up hundreds of gigabytes over a network connection

Need Help! - Timeout Error [on hold]

We are currently working on java based project deployed on tomcat server and users connect to the website through IIS. IIS to Tomcat is connected using Boncode Apache tomcat connector.

We are facing timeout error even after changing the timeout values in IIS and Tomcat. timeout happens after every 20 minutes from client side where as server is still running.

Any guidance from you will be really helpful.

Transfer Notes from iCloud

I originally created an Apple ID for use on the App Store in iTunes. When Apple introduced iCloud my Apple ID ended up being used.

I recently creating a new iCloud ID for my personal use, retaining the original for Family Purchases.

I just realised that I have lost all my Notes, although these are still on the web in the original iCloud account.

Is there any way I can transfer these to my new iCloud ID? I would prefer a direct transfer if possible, or export data. At the worst I could copy one by one, but this would be tedious.

PS When I tried to activate Notes on the new account, OS X seems to insist on my creating a new @icloud email. I never used the original, and still don't know why I needed it. I can't seem to use the original.

Macbook beeps randomly during normal operation

Basically my late-2014 macbook pro beeps randomly (always once), it's a very low beep, seems internal, might even be a fan hitting something, yet I don't think that is the case, it's pretty much a random internally sounding beep with no other indicators

There are always speakers connected, the beep doesn't sound from the speakers, it comes from the machine itself

Is there a place to check hardware issue logs etc?

Incorrect Wi-Fi password message

I am on iphone 6+ and ios 8.1.2.I keep getting the following error

Incorrect Wi-FI password message for Wi-Fi networks that do not exist . I am not sure why is my phone trying to access these networks if they do not exist of the wifi list and why am I getting this error.

PS: I can connect to the all wi-fi netwoks i want to . It is just these random error messages popping up on my mobile suggesting password is not correct for some "AndroidAP" wifi network that is confusing me.

How do I delete one of my custom templates in Numbers - OS 10.10.1

I would like to delete one of my custom templates I made in Numbers - in previous OS versions you went to Library>iWork>Numbers>Templates and just trash it - but, since I updated to Yosemite - I only see Keynote in the iWork Library folder? No Numbers? Any ideas?

Has "bounce" been removed from the Apple Mail AppleScript dictionary?

(Running Mavericks 10.9.5)

I have followed the instructions here on How to Bounce Emails in Mac OS X Mail. I am able to select the service and it runs without error but I don't see an email sent out in the Apple Mail Activity window and in a few tests bouncing mail to myself, I never receive the bounced mail.

I am looking in the Mail app's AppleScript dictionary for "bounce" and have not been able to find it. Has Apple removed the "bounce" feature entirely (and not just as a UI command)? If so, should I presume that the AppleScript "bounce" command below is failing silently? The message does get deleted

(Before anyone advises about not bouncing spam – I don't need this for spam, or at least typical spam. I need this because of having been added to some "BCC" mailing lists which it would be politically awkward for me to request removal from – such is my digital life. . .)

Best setup for Remote Logic and Back to My Mac

I have two iMacs and a Mac Mini which are always on, and I would like to be able to log into any one of these remotely. I have iCloud and Back to My Mac enabled on all three, but it seems they only reliably show up in my Shared sidebar if I am on the same network as them. (The Mac Mini and one of the iMacs share a network. The second iMac is on a different network.) Is there a configuration or additional setting I may have missed? FWIW, I have File Sharing, Remote Login, and Remote Management all turned on on all machines.

I'm planning on upgrading to Yosemite from Mavericks on a Mid-2010 MBP 15" with a Samsung 840 PRO drive as the primary drive. I have TRIM disabled! The process I want to use is as follows so I'm just looking for a validation please!

How to Repeatedly capture fixed screen region to sequence of images

I need to repeatedly capture a fixed region from each of a sequence of web pages to a series of images that I can then compile to a PDF. Ideally I could just navigate from page to page and press a hot key to capture the area and save the image to an automatically incremented filename each time.

What I want to stop doing is manually defining the region each time (it's irritating and when I drag to create the region it's even more irritating to try to get the exact pixel dimensions correct), which seems to be the only option with Skitch and others I have tried.

What software will allow me to do this most efficiently?

Calendar on Yosemite

I updated to Maverick and found that CALENDAR no longer could integrate "To Do" Items with events. Will Yosemite have this needed capabiity?

In order to avoid some non wanted modifications or corruption of pictures files, one possibility is to change the permissions of the files (in ~/Pictures).

Do you think that this idea is a good one? And which permissions? 644 on files and 755 on directories?

MacPro6.1 interface issues and unstoppable auto shutdowns

I have a MacPro 6.1 which has had sequential issues with a fully loaded set of interfaces (two displayport-fwire adaptors, multiple thunderbolt devices, full loaded USB2/3devices plus extension hub) and I have two persistent headaches that any amount of testing,t rials (and even machine exchanges) have not fully cured. Switching on and off hub ports can cause internet connections to go haywire or be lost completely..

has anyone else had these types of issues? I assumed it was interface board shortfall in the drivers and that later yosemite releases would slowly fix them over time.. but although this has had some effect but still occurs occasionally. It doesn't matter WHAt hub I use (the best is an Mbeat)

Yes I tested ALL the same devices on a 5.1 Mac Pro.. all work fine and i am using the same OS 10.1.1 release too.

Yosemite bluetooth audio is choppy/skips

On two separate MacBook Pros (one brand new, one several years old) running OSX Yosemite, all bluetooth audio devices are choppy (audio clicks in and out, skips like a scratched CD).

I have tried playing audio through Spotify, iTunes, YouTube with Beats Studio wireless headphones and a Big Jambox on both, in separate environments. Sometimes the sound is perfect and clear. Then it suddenly becomes choppy.

I've looked at Activity Monitor during choppy times, and nothing seems different from normal.

For the record, using the same Wifi and devices, iOS8 iPhone 6 and 5S both do not have this issue.

I'm curious how to even begin to troubleshoot the issue - It's hard to troubleshoot as there's no way of knowing if it's interference, app performance, etc.

Recover data from locked iPad

Here's the deal... I've an ipad that is locked after missing the lock key a few times.

Now it is requesting to connect to iTunes but this iPad was never synced with the iTunes. I know i can restore to factory settings but I don't want to lose everything.

Is there anyway to unlock the iPad without loosing all the data that is inside? Or retrieve the data from it in some way? I don't have any backup...

The iPad is running iOS 7.

It is very important that I can get the photos that are inside.

Share my Location -- "from" keeps switching between 3 ipads

I have 5 iPads and 1 iPhone attached to one AppleID. 1 iphone and 2 ipads work fine when it comes to this issue.

But I noticed in iCloud 2 out of 3 children's ipads, say:

"Online, Location Services Off"

So I went to settings to turn it on.

The 3 children's ipads, under SETTINGS

Under the FROM ... when I click on that.. my iphone, and the 3 children's ipads are all listed there.

Like I mentioned the iphone seems to work fine, but the other 3 ipads.. ONLY one can be selected, because when I select that as the FROM ... it chages the other 2 ipads.

EX: Paige's ipad, Brooke's ipad, Chase's ipad are listed...

If I select under FROM --- "Paige's ipad".... the

FROM on Brooke's and Chase's ipad changes to Paige's as well.

It doesn't matter which one I pick.. it will always change the "FROM" in share my location for the other 2 .

I can't each of their own ipads to show FROM -- their own location.

Any advise ??

Downloading an old version of iPhoto onto Mac OSX Lion (10.7)

I'm in a very frustrating situation. About a year ago I acquired a white Macbook (model A1181, 2007 version) running OS X Lion. I was using it happily until last week, when my hard drive suddenly failed. I installed a new drive into it, and got it going again, though I had to start from scratch. A lot of my stuff is saved in Google Drive, so for the most part I was ok, but one really annoying thing is that iPhoto was no longer on my computer, which I use quite a bit. I went to the App Store to re-download it, but it said you need OS X 10.10 to download iPhoto. And my computer doesn't support any OS past 10.7. So I'm kind of stuck. I don't know what to do, but I need iPhoto. It seems ridiculous to get a whole new computer for just a single app, and one that I had before my hard drive failed! Is there any place I can download an older version of iPhoto?

PS, I'm having the same issue trying to download 1Password and Pixelmator. I was able to get a 30-day trial of pixelmator online, which I'm using for now.

Can you mirror an iPad to a TV via HDMI adapter while iPad is locked?

I have an iPad connected to an HDTV using the [Apple Lightning Digital AV Adapter] (http://ift.tt/VFGj14). When the iPad is on everything works nominally: the iPad screen is mirrored to the TV.

Is there a way to continue to push the screen contents when the iPad is locked or smart cover closed? I don't need to see what's on the iPad, I'm basically just using it as a projector.

I know airplay will continue video playback when a cover is closed (at least in some apps). I'm trying to do the same thing over the Digital AV Adapter cable.

Changed AppleID Password and now iMessage and Facetime get Activiation Errors only on 1 of 5 ipads

I have an appled ID in the proper format XXX@gmail.com.

When trying to login to "manage my appleID", I was forced to change my password to a "stronger password" which I was trying to avoid since I had so much attached to that AppleID that I thought I would run into all kinds of problems synching all the new passwords, and OF COURSE I did... ( stupid apple for making me do that !!!!!! )

NOW... here's the problem.. I had to go back on all of my devices and get things all synced up again. 1- iphone, 5 ipads, 2 itouch

I know that each of us could have our own appled ID, etc. etc... but that wasn't the way it was set up when we originally got our products, and when you have children using these, it was just easier to sign them all up under my AppleID. And I have no desire to go back and change things now, who has the time for that ??

My question is.. ONLY ONE of my iPads ( that has IOS 8.1.2 ) can't get iMessage and Facetime set up properly. ( the rest I've gotten to work now properly )

When I attempt to go to settings, and click on Messages or FaceTime I get a screen that has my Apple ID prepopulated .. the password field is blank.

When I enter my newly change Apple ID password, I get an error

iMessage Activiation An error accurred during activiation. Try agin. OK

I can't turn anything iMessage or Facetime on and off, because this is all I get, I don't get the option...

If I access Message or Facetime directly.. I get a similar login screen, resulting in the same error.

I've tried rebooting my ipad and waiting a few hours and trying again. Still no luck.

I have a strong wifi connection and get to the internet just fine.

I've tried resetting network connections via Settings, General .. no luck.

I've all tried resetting "all settings", with no luck.

It seems icloud can see the ipad just fine, and I can send a lost signal to it.

Any advise ?????? What am I missing... ?? all other 7 devices I got working just fine, so I seem to know somewhat I'm doing.. but I'm stumped ?? Something must have got hosed that I'm missing on this one..

Suddenly having issues streaming iTunes 12 (OS 10.9.5 / 2010 iMac) to an Airport Express

The Airport Express is one of the older ones (no power brick). I had issues 3 months ago ; Apple couldn't help me (before I had to go) so I left it at that. Thought to get the other Airport Express out of the garage (same model), plugged it in and it worked fine until...

Until I flipped open my laptop which is running Yosemite(!) Is this a coincidence? It looks like as soon as it tried to connect to the network it killed my Airplay. I've rebooted the iMac, unplugged and replugged in the Airport Express, etc. The Airport Express is joining an existing network. I'll be unplugging the Airport Extreme momentarily. Is this just a coincidence? Back when it initially happened, I though it might have something to do with Little Snitch, since I at the time recently performed an upgrade.

When Mac Sleeps...it wakes with monitor displaying garbage and have to force reboot

Sometimes when my iMac (desktop) sleeps I "wake" it and the display has multi-colored garbage everywhere. I can't do anything but force a shut down and reboot where it does fine with the exception of the message saying that the system did not shut down properly.

how can i preserve the group when I export it and it is imported by someone else

I am trying to send a group of contacts to other people and I want them to be able to import these contacts so that the group is created and preserved for them too. Is the alternative for them to have to create the group themselves in their Contacts app and then add each individual member?

Repair shop took my PIN

My iphone needed repairing (screen) and so dropped it at timpsons. The chap asked for my PIN and I wrote it down for him, assuming it would be for the work. Realised he could have no need for it, and at a Timpsons that I'd previously visited told they would never ask for it. Any opinions/words of comfort/advice welcomed.

iMac not recognising any keyboard

I have an Apple wired keyboard and a wireless Microsoft keyboard. I have been working with the Apple keyboard for a couple of months. Today I started my iMac and it didn't recognise the keyboard, I plugged the Microsoft keyboard (I worked with it for a year before I had the Apple keyboard) which works via USB (but wireless) and the iMac did not recognise it either. I tried the SMC reset, as shown here but it didn't work.

Any idea of what's happening? I appreciate your help.

HP Photosmart 7520 setting the scan area

Hi: I scan from my Photosmart 7520 to my iMac frequently. When a page is scanned that shows boxes of information on it, the scanner tries to put a separate scanner screen over each box. I often want the whole page scanned as one. I know how to size the scanner area to the whole page. How do I get rid of the smaller separate scans so that I don't have to deal with them?

Apple review process: Penalty for updating an app before it has been reviewed

I have submitted an app to the app store about a week ago. As far as I can tell, it wasn't reviewed yet.

Today my team discovered a bug in the app we've sent. It's not critical, but I would be very happy to have it in the store without it.

If I submit a fixed app before my app has been previewed, will my app be moved to the back of the review queue?

I found no direct reference to this question in the app store review process manual.

DISABLE Wi-Fi and bluetooth using Apple Configurator

How do I DISABLE Wi-Fi and bluetooth on my supervised devices using Apple Configurator? I see options for deploying SSID setup uniformly but not the ability to disable. We're attempting to use iPads with pre-loaded references in the classroom so we don't want the student to be able to get onto the internet or connect to any bluetooth devices.

Two monitors using Elgato dock and a thunderbolt device

I'm using an Elgato Thunderbolt 2 Dock which has a second Thunderbolt port and a seperate HDMI port. I have an HDMI display connected to the HDMI port and a LaCie HDD connected to the second thunderbolt port.

On that LaCie HDD there is an LG ULTRAWIDE connected via MiniDisplayPort to DisplayPort.

If I only plug in the HDMI device it works. If I only connect the DisplayPort-Device to the LaCie HDD it works. If I connect both displays only the one connected first will work but whenever I connect one of the displays the MacBook goes black for a moment and comes back with only one monitor recognized.

The Elgato homepage states that there needs to be another Thunderbolt device between the dock and the DisplayPort Monitor but my LaCie IS that device.

Why don't I get a signal on the second monitor?

Bought music load/unload randomly on iPhone

Time to time I have the issue with music which I bought in iTunes Store and loaded via wifi to my iPhone 4s. Music may randomly load or unload regardless my preferences. I can find some albums loaded in the morning, but I remember that I deleted them some days ago. And vice versa, songs may become deleted from iPhone, but these songs were loaded some time before.

What could be the reason? May it be related to iCloud backups?

Powerpoint can't close a file

Powerpoint has a file open that I simply can't close. If I try to, I get a white screen - and the Powerpoint Title Line - but I cannot switch windows to a different pptx. I've tried saving it with a different name, closing and reopening Powerpoint, etc. - but when I do re-open the application, there is the wretched file.

Why are the network resources empty in Safari timelines, even if resources are there?

Every single page I go to, the Timelines->NetworkRequests tab shows lots of requests and their timing (top half of the pane), but the bottom half is empty, making it impossible for me to see what requests were made.

I know this is something simple I am overlooking, but for the life of me, I cannot figure out what it is.

Ipod 5th generation syncing issues mac, but not windows

So I've been having trouble syncing my iPod with my Macbook with my iTunes library. At first it kept freezing while syncing, and then I did a hard reset (Menu + Center). Afterwards, however it would keep detecting my iPod, and then sync a few songs and then it would disconnect abruptly, and I would get errors like "cannot read/write to iPod". I then tried restoring my iPod on my Mac and got errors again like "error, could not contact updater software is busy". Finally I tried using my bootcamp windows and my iPod syncs perfectly fine, but when I boot up to Mac OS again, I have the SAME issues as before.

Previously I had no trouble syncing on Mac so I don't know what else is different.

How do I add EVERNOTE to the "Open with..." context menu in Apple Mail

I am NOT looking for the "Open with..." menu in Finder. That's fine for me.

When I right-click PDF email attachments in Apple Mail it won't show me "Evernote" as an option. The Finder menu does, but not the one in Apple Mail. I did reset the LaunchService but it didn't change anything.

It's weird because I always read that the "open With..." in Finder and Mail should be the same, but for me they definitely are not.

Frequent mDNSResponder host resolution issue

I have a frequent problem with one specific host on my network. I have a local DNS server running on one of the machines. I have host nas.mydomain.com configured through that DNS with A and AAAA records. So far so good. I am using this nas storage as a time machine disk for backups from my macbook pro running OSX Mountain Lion. So far so good. The problem is that rather often I receive message "Backup disk is not available".

When this happens, I can no longer access the server via web browser, ping it, ssh to it or traceroute to it - I get the same message "host not found" (or such like).

The DNS server is running find and the host is resolvable, as in the terminal, dig, nslookup and host find the host with no problem. mDNS negative caching is set to 1 hour and TTL is set to 24 hours.

Once this error appears, it does not go away on its own (I tried witing for 24 hours). If I kill -SIGHUP the process of mDNSResponder, then everything works correctly again - for a few hours, after which the problem comes back.

Is there a permanent solution to this issue?

Note that I cannot upgrade to a newer version of OSX due to incompatibilities with a number of legacy software used on this mac, which doesn't support anything beyond Mountain Lion.

Can I set an application to open when an external device is connected?

I own a Nook, which I manage using Calibre. Is there a way to have Calibre open whenever my Mac detects the Nook is connected?

iPhone 6 microphone and audio jack not working

I just got iPhone 6 last month and since yesterday afternoon I encountered a couple seconds where the phone is irresponsive and I had to restart to make it normal again. After that I couldn't make any call, either a normal phone call or from wifi, it said Call failed, or no sound. I tried everything: Skype, Facetime. There was one time I managed to make the call (after restarting) but the person could not hear my voice.

I opened Voice Memo to check if the microphone is working well but record button is disabled (greyed).

Headphone is practically not working. I plugged in a headset and the volume is still on ringer and the sound is still coming out from speaker.

I tried "reset all settings" and did a "restore" from iTunes but nothing seems to help.

How can I repair partition map after attempting to dual boot screwed it up?

I tried installing Kali Linux in a separate partition on my MacBook, but after installation was completed, I was unable to boot back into Mac OS (displays a prohibited sign). I think everything went wrong when I let it install GRUB, which may be responsible for the messed up partition map.

I was following this guide http://ift.tt/1C7e4cw, but could not complete the setup of the "Hybrid MBR" because I could not get GDisk, as the MacBook's NIC is not listed in the drivers that came with the distro. Not sure if finishing this step would solve the problem, but at this point I just want to get rid of Kali and get Mac OS back to normal.

As for a reinstallation of the OS from the recovery partition, it doesn't look like this will work, as the Disk Utility is showing all kinds of errors when trying to verify the main volume (see image below). Repair disk doesn't work, by the way. I basically can't reformat anything, all the options are greyed out.

I'm not above wiping the whole drive, but then how will I restore Mac OS? I never had an install disc or anything.

Exchange calendar events out by an hour

I wonder if anyone has come across a calendar syncing issue. I use a MacBook, and iPad and an iPhone 6+ for work, all synced to my exchange server. When I enter an exchange appointment on my MacBook and invite attendees all is good. But if I enter the event on my iPhone or iPad, the event comes up an hour early on the attendees calendar. If the same attendee creates an event (from a computer (non Mac) or their iPhone) and invites me all is good. I have tried all the time server settings that I found threads about when I googled the problem, but nothing has resolved it. Extremely frustrating!
