How do I bypass a found-on-road iPad Air 2 lock screen?

I recently found an iPad Air 2 along the roadside. It's locked and I would like to be able to access it to attempt to contact the original owner. It had just been rebooted without being unlocked, so any camera exploit won't work.

I'm currently using Ubuntu but I do have access to several Windows machines if one is necessary.

I also understand if this is a question that AskDifferent does not allow, but if it isn't, I'd appreciate any help I can get in locating the device's owner.
