Would a snapped IR sensor ribbon on a A1181 macbook stop the macbook from booting?

Would a snapped IR sensor ribbon on a A1181 macbook stop the macbook from booting? I was replacing a sata hard drive cable in macbook and the IR sensor snapped and I am still having very odd hard drive issues with the new sata cable and not be able to boot very well.
