Where is the 'label/tag' metadata stored? Specifically 'kMDItemLabel'

I have migrated data from an old (MS Windows) server to a new storage but the label/tag data for files is displaying, but not for folders.

Is the metadata for the folders stored in the .DS_Store file, or elsewhere?

Using the command mdls, specifically the key that has lost its value is: kMDItemLabel
