Is it possible to make Ink work decently with cursive?

I have observed that Ink, though it works reasonably well with printed characters, does terribly with cursive. This contrasts poorly with the handwriting recognition built into tablet editions of Microsoft Windows, which handle cursive very well. Is there some setting that can be changed that would enable Ink to handle cursive better, or is there a third-party solution for live cursive recognition under OS X?
