How to show hidden files in finder?

In terminal I ran:

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE

and

killall Finder

If I CMD + SHIFT + G (sorry I do not know how to add button images)

/usr/local/.git I can see the folder. However, if I CMD + SHIFT + G and go to /usr/local I cannot see the folder.
