How can I create beautiful drawing with Microsoft word in Macbook?

I want to create nice drawings in my documents using Microsoft word in my macbook pro. I am unable to find Canvas option in the mac version which is present in the Windows counterpart. The result is that all the shapes are going haywire with jumbled formatting whenever I add any text above it.

What are the tips to create good presentable drawings in spite of this canvas handicap?
