iTunes wont recognise iPod classic

I'm using osx 10.10.2 beta and iTunes 12.0.1. When connecting my iPod classic the os recognise the device (I see it on the desktop and "disk util") but iTunes won't. Other devices work fine using the same cable and other macs can recognise the device. Any idea what should I do?
