I Pad Mini Pad keypad

I recently was given a mini keyboard for my Mini Ipad for Christmas. I was able to do all the pairing with bluetooth. Since I started to use it the keypad on my I pad keeps popping up on the screen and sometimes when I press end on the keyboard it disappears but sometimes it does not. So any way is there something that I am not doing right.
